5 Common Gardening Mistakes to Avoid for Beginners

5 Common Gardening Mistakes to Avoid for Beginners

5 Common Gardening Mistakes to Avoid for Beginners

Gardening is in for 2020, so there are plenty of new gardeners out in their yards getting their hands dirty. Are you one of them?

If so, you’re probably excited to get your flowerbeds planted and your sustainable veggie plots flourishing, but do you have all of the information you need to get the green backyard oasis that you want?

There are plenty of gardening mistakes that first-time growers can make that can take them from green thumb to plant killer overnight. We’ve made those mistakes in the past and we want to help you avoid them.

Keep reading to learn more about some common mistakes that you could be making with your new hobby.

1. Not Checking Plant Compatibility

Not all plants are going to grow well in all areas. We don’t all have temperature-controlled greenhouses in which to keep our favorite fruits and flowers.

When you get excited about a new potential plant, don’t act immediately. Do a bit of research first to make sure that this is something that can actually live in your area.

For example: did you get over-excited about the thought of growing a new avocado from a pit? Sustainable, right?

Well, check and see if that’s actually going to be an option for you. These expensive green edibles are only suitable for tropical areas. If you’re used to the ice and snow, they’re not for you.

2. Under or Over Watering

Plants can be finicky. Some of them love to be dried out, while others want to drown. If you’re growing several very different plants, you can’t just assume that one watering day per week is going to cut it for all of them.

Giving your plants the right amount of water is crucial.

Over-watering is just as harmful as under-watering and is a common mistake amongst first-time gardeners.

Read up on your new plants before you start watering. You’ll save yourself a lot of trouble.

3. Keeping Everything Too Close

While you can get away with a bit of clustering for some more common plants and flowers, the more edible plants nearly always need some room to breathe.

Check the spacing instructions on the plant identification tag, or do some searching on your own if you don’t have one.

Plants that are too close together might not have room to grow efficiently. Help your plants out by giving them some space!

4. Too Many (or Not Enough) Trims

Letting a plant grow wild and free can be fine (after all, nothing is pruned in nature) but you might not get the most successful plant possible.

Pruning a plant can stop heavy leaves or branches from dragging it down. It can improve airflow and the angle of light hitting the leaves.

Some plants need regular pruning, minimal pruning, or pruning during flowering.

Don’t overdo it, though. You’re not making a topiary.

5. Going Overboard

If you’re a new gardener, you might have hit up the local greenhouse for as many seeds as you could carry. You’ve tilled your entire backyard and you’re ready for urban farming, right?

Well, maybe not.

Maintenance for gardens is a lot of work. When you actually devote yourself to getting the highest-quality plant, you’ll find that a backyard garden could take hours out of your day.

Until you understand the workload, start small.

Have You Made These Gardening Mistakes?

Gardening is a fun and popular hobby that can get you outside, active, and growing some awesome and sustainable food. Avoiding these gardening mistakes can set you up for success.

Happy growing!

7 Adult Party Games You and Your Friends Need to Try

Do you love getting together with friends? If so, you’re definitely not alone.

There’s really nothing than hanging out with your besties for a night of fun and games. Speaking of games, this article takes a look at some awesome adult party games you need to check out.

After all, party games are the perfect way for everyone to participate, laugh together, and stay up late into the night, making the party last as long as possible.

Keep reading to discover some awesome games to play with friends during your next adults-only gettogether.

1. Cards Against Humanity

If you’ve never experienced Cards Against Humanity, you’re in for a treat! This has become an instant classic. Just keep in mind that you probably want to avoid playing this with your parents or your kids.

Each player is dealt 10 white cars, and then one black card is drawn. The white cards contain options for filling in the blank, and the black card contains the blank that needs to be filled.

The person with the black card reads the sentence aloud, then chooses the funniest option. The goal is to win the most rounds.

2. Cereal Box Game

Here is a super simple yet totally fun game. Place an empty cereal box in the middle of the room. Each player must try to pick up the box using only their mouth, without using their hands for support.

Once everyone has had a turn, trim an inch from the box. Continue until the box is cut down to nothing.

3. The Voting Game

This game is definitely not recommended for people who lack a personality or a sense of humor. And you’d better be prepared to learn a lot more about your friends than you ever wanted to know.

A card is drawn that features an intriguing question, such as “Whose Google search history would like to see the most?” Then everyone votes. Once you have the results, everyone must reveal who they voted for.

4. What Do You Meme?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, memes are a part of your everyday life. This popular game lets you compete against your friends by creating inappropriate memes.

A meme image is chosen, then each player creates the caption they think best describes the image. This might seem relatively tame, but things can turn raunchy in a hurry.

5. Left/Right Game

This popular game starts by passing out a couple of prizes at random. Then read a story of your choosing that contains the words LEFT and RIGHT throughout. Whoever’s holding the prizes at the end of the story gets to keep them.

6. Cootie

Cootie is a fun dice game that requires four adults at each table. Parters need to sit across from each other, and one person on each team rolls the dice using dice cups for each turn. The goal is to start with the number 1 and keep rolling the dice until you get each consecutive number.

Be sure to buy dice cups for this one.

7. Beer Pong

It’s hard to be a raging game of beer pong. The rules are simple: all you have to do is through a ping pong ball into your opponent’s cup of beer, which they then have to drink. Games don’t get much more straightforward, or fun.

A Guide to the Ultimate Adult Party Games

Having a party with friends is what life is all about. Fortunately, these adult party games will help take your next gettogether to the next level.

“36th Chamber of Shaolin” Chinese Theatrical Poster

Word on the street is that Arrow Video is releasing a Blu-ray for Lau Kar-Leung’s 1978 kung fu film staple The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (aka Master Killer) starring martial arts icon Gordon Liu (Martial Club, Kill Bill Vol. 1).

Many fans consider The 36th Chamber of Shaolin a turning point for director Lau Kar-Leung as well as the star, Gordon Liu. Martial arts movies at the time showed waning interest, but upon the film’s release, both of these talented men found a boost to their respective careers – thanks to writer Kuang Ni (The Seventh Curse) who did an excellent job with a seemingly simple tale of revenge, train and kick ass. Don’t let the cliche “Monks are peaceful” fool you. It has the alternative title of “Master Killer” for a reason.

We’ll keep you filled in as we learn more. Who know – maybe this is just the start of Continue reading

Are there any issues when it comes to using online apps to make international calls?

Are there any issues when it comes to using online apps to make international calls?

Are there any issues when it comes to using online apps to make international calls?

As a community of people, since the beginning of the Coronavirus, we have found ourselves going through tougher and tougher situations every day. Without having enough information on how to deal with the virus, we were pushing, reacting, and taking measures with the little information we were receiving, keeping ourselves safe. Several countries around the world began with measures like the home and self-quarantine to reduce the chance of anyone catching the virus, with people only leaving their houses if they urgently needed to or were working in the essential services departments with healthcare, banking, or something along those lines.

With a lot of people living away from their families, the only way they could keep in touch with each other was thought the internet, with a lot of them, organizing and having online calls with people around the world. Families would spend their evenings talking to their members who were away and not with the rest of them in their homes during the lockdown.

Are there any issues with having online calls over direct calls?

The internet is an amazing tool, allowing people to get in touch with one another in a few
seconds. Furthermore, it is loaded with millions and millions of apps, with multiple apps being used to talk to each other if a specific one does not work properly. However, with the rest of the world stuck at home, the reliance on the internet significantly increased. In some parts of the world, like India, for instance, the internet is not the best, with barely anyone using proper wired connections and relying wholely on mobile data. This started becoming an issue when it came to placing online calls to people since they were not clear and kept dropping.

When the internet is not the best solution, the only thing that could bridge the gap, allowing people to talk to their loved ones in other countries was cheap international calls. With the platform we have been working on, we created an option allowing people to make cheap calls to India or USA, without having to worry about trouble with connectivity. Furthermore, online calls are inexpensive but not the most professional if they are being used to communicate with business partners or clients who are in other countries, they might come across as slightly less professional as they should be.

What are the positives of using such a system?

The platform does not need the internet to work properly since it is based off regular calls.
Furthermore, since it places regular phone calls, it does not even need a smartphone and allows people to get through the system directly. This is great for those on the move, not always connected to WIFI, and it also connects with desk phones and landline phones. It has all the functionality of a regular call allowing people to have a conference call through the same platform if needed.

My Life’s on the Line | aka 60 Second Assassin (1978) Review

"My Life's on the Line" Theatrical Poster

“My Life’s on the Line” Theatrical Poster

AKA: 60 Second Assassin
Director: Wang Chung Kwong
Cast: Leung Kar Yan, Lung Fei, Wang Lee-pang, Dean Shek Tien, Wong Chi Sang, Kong Ching Ha, Su Chen Ping, Chiang Ching-Hsia, Li Long-Yin
Running Time: 91 min.

By Ian Whittle

The problem with the kung fu comedy craze is that it often meant dramatic films felt forced to compromise, inserting goofy scenes alongside the drama. A case in point is My Life’s on the Line, which top bills Leung Kar-yan and Dean Shek. One would think from the poster that this is some sort of buddy comedy starring the two, but in fact the main character is played by third-billed Wang Lee-pang, who I thought I’d never seen in anything before, but it turns out he was a mainstay of the Jackie Chan/Lo Wei films, where he looked far more scruffy.

Wang isn’t much of a leading man, clearly being a graduate of the Jimmy Wang Yu school of never changing one’s expression. He does have some nifty tae-kwon-do skills, but it doesn’t feel like they are showcased that much Continue reading

What Is an Uncontested Divorce? 4 Things You Need to Know

What Is an Uncontested Divorce? 4 Things You Need to Know

What Is an Uncontested Divorce? 4 Things You Need to Know

Going through a divorce is a stressful time, even when you know the decision is for the best. It can also feel like a lonely and isolating experience. But, it’s important to remember you’re not alone.

In fact, in 2018, there were over 782,000 divorces in the United States alone.

Fortunately, the experience doesn’t have to be a negative one, especially in the case of an uncontested divorce.

So, what is an uncontested divorce, and how do you know if it’s the right option for you to pursue? We’re here to help. Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about an uncontested divorce.

What is an Uncontested Divorce?

Simply put, an uncontested divorce can take place when both parties are in agreement about the divorce. So, that means there can’t be any outstanding disagreements about finances, custody, property, child support, or spousal support.

If you and your spouse are in agreement about the major issues surrounding your divorce, then an uncontested divorce could make things easier for you both.

Uncontested Divorces: What You Need to Know

Now you have a better understanding of what an uncontested divorce is and if you qualify. Next, let’s take a closer look at what you need to know about the process. This list can help you feel more prepared about what to expect.

1. You Still Have to Meet Your State’s Divorce Requirements

Even if you and your spouse agree on all of the major issues so that you qualify for an uncontested divorce, you still have to meet your state’s typical divorce requirements.

For example, some states require spouses to live separately for a set amount of time before filing for divorce. If that’s one of your state’s requirements, you must fulfill that, regardless of whether you have a contested or uncontested divorce.

2. It Can Save You Time and Money

One of the most appealing parts about an uncontested divorce is that the whole process tends to be easier – and cheaper – than a contested divorce.

Since you and your spouse are in agreement during an uncontested divorce, this means you can avoid a lengthy litigation process and trial. As a result, the uncontested divorce cost is considerably less than a more contentious divorce.

3. It’s a More Private Option

Divorce documents are considered to be public records, except in extreme circumstances. However, during an uncontested divorce, since both parties are in agreement, there will be less information that needs to be filed with the court.

So, if discretion is important to you, an uncontested divorce could give you peace of mind regarding your privacy.

4. You Still Might Want to Consult a Lawyer

In many cases, you might be able to handle your uncontested divorce proceedings without the assistance of a lawyer. However, it’s a good idea to ask a divorce lawyer to look over the paperwork associated with your case before filing.

Of course, if you don’t have the time or desire to handle the case yourself, you can hire an uncontested divorce lawyer to take care of it for you instead.

You Will Get Through This

Now that you know the answer to the question, “What is an uncontested divorce?” you can start moving forward with your divorce proceedings. While this is a difficult time in your life, remember, you will get through it and come out on the other side.

This Is How to Make Weed Gummy Bears

This Is How to Make Weed Gummy Bears

This Is How to Make Weed Gummy Bears

Across the world, attitudes to weed are changing.

In America, 33 states have now legalized its medical use, and it looks like other countries could be soon to follow! For anyone who enjoys the benefits of marijuana, this is amazing news.

If you’re in a place where it’s legal and you’re new to the world of weed, there’s a lot to be discovered. Edibles, for example, are a super popular way of getting the benefits without the smoke.

If you’re interested in trying them, here’s our guide on how to make weed gummy bears that you can enjoy from the comfort of your home.

What Are Pot Gummies?

Marijuana gummies are a type of edible. These are basically foods that contain marijuana, and they’re great if you don’t want to start smoking it. In fact, a lot of people using weed for medical purposes use edibles!

It usually takes longer to feel the effects of marijuana through an edible compared to when you smoke it. But the benefits you feel should last longer and it’s a much easier way to use it for beginners.

If you’re new to edibles, make sure you don’t take too many in one go. The biggest mistake is taking more because you don’t think it’s working when in reality it can just take a very long time to kick in. If you do take too much, you may have some negative experiences (paranoia, anxiety, sickness, etc.), but just ride that out for a couple of hours and you’ll be fine.

Before trying edibles, make sure you learn more so you’re completely prepared. It’s always better to know what to expect and how to use them, and it’ll make your chance of a great experience a lot higher.

How to Make Weed Gummy Bears

If you’re wondering how to make pot gummy bears, it first starts with cannabis-infused oil. For a sweet, non-overpowering flavor, a lot of people opt for coconut oil. You can buy this already infused with CBD or THC, but if you don’t have any you can make your own.

Making Cannabis-Infused Coconut Oil

To make cannabis-infused coconut oil, follow these steps:

  • Start by grinding your buds of cannabis and spreading them evenly out on a baking tray
  • Line the tray with parchment paper to make it easier to remove the cannabis later
  • Bake the cannabis at 240 degrees Fahrenheit for between 30 to 60 minutes (the longer you bake, the higher percentage of THC you’ll get)
  • Collect the one cup of ground cannabis and place it on a cheesecloth, tying the cloth together
  • Place it in a saucepan with 1 cup of coconut oil and cook on a low heat for around three hours
  • Strain the oil, removing any bits of cannabis, and store it

Easy! Once you’ve made your oil, you can store it for about two months or keep it in the fridge to help it last even longer. Now you’ve made your oil, it’s time to move on to how to make marijuana gummy bears.

Gummy Bear Marijuana Recipe

To make weed gummy bears, you’ll need:

  • A cooking pot
  • A whisk
  • Molds for gummy bears
  • A dropper (this usually comes with the mold and is like a tiny turkey baster)
  • 1/2 cup of cannabis-infused coconut oil (solidified at room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup of cold water
  • 1 pack of Jell-o
  • 2 tablespoons of unflavored gelatine
  • 1/2 teaspoons sunflower or soy lecithin

Once you’ve got your ingredients together, it’s time to start cooking! Follow these steps to make your own weed gummy bears:

  • Add water, oil, and the sunflower or soy lecithin into a pot, heating it on a low temperature
  • Stir until the coconut oil has melted and everything has combined
  • Add all of the gelatin whilst continuing to stir
  • Whisk the mixture for around 10-15 minutes on low heat, making sure all of the gelatin has dissolved completely without bringing it to a boil
  • Use your dropper to start filling your moulds, squeezing it to take up the liquid and squeezing again to drop it into each shape
  • Try and do this part as quickly as possible so that the liquid doesn’t start to cool and separate
  • If you do see separation, continue to whisk the mixture whilst filling the moulds
  • Once the moulds are fill, out them into a freezer and leave them to harden for 20 to 25 minutes

The Potency of Your Gummies

The potency of your edibles depends on your oil and the cannabis you’ve used. When trying, start with just one gummy. Even if nothing seems to happen, leave it for at least three hours before taking another.

If you’re worried about eating too many, wait a day after the first one before trying again. Once you start eating them regularly and making them more frequently, you’ll get to know the potency better and become an edible pro!

Stay Sensible and Stay Safe

Once you know how to make weed gummy bears, you’ll see that the process is actually very simple! Just be careful to not overload your oil with cannabis and keep whisking your gummy bear mixture so it doesn’t separate. Other than that, just have fun with the process!

If you’re eating edibles for the first time, stay sensible and take them in a safe environment. If you’re worried, make sure you have someone you trust with you to calm your nerves. Weed is a very safe substance though, so you don’t have anything to worry about as long as you make your gummies properly.

How to Find a Personal Injury Lawyer: 5 Helpful Tips

How to Find a Personal Injury Lawyer: 5 Helpful Tips

How to Find a Personal Injury Lawyer: 5 Helpful Tips

If you’ve been injured through no fault of your own, you may be entitled to a settlement. Medical malpractice, vehicle accidents, and dog bites are common personal injury cases worth making a claim over.

If you’re serious about pressing charges, hire a lawyer. Your attorney can negotiate a fair settlement for your injuries. Not to mention, make the process much less stressful for you.

Finding the right attorney can be an exhausting task. That’s why we’ve put together this guide with five tips for hiring a personal injury lawyer.

Keep reading to learn how to find a personal injury lawyer.

1. Ask for Referrals

Do you know people that have experience hiring a personal injury lawyer? If so, ask them for their recommendations.

If you don’t have a large social circle, try reading online forums or business reviews. People often share both good and bad experiences online.

Be sure to read all the reviews and not just the 1- or 5-star testimonials. This will give you a clearer picture of what the general public is saying about the attorney in question.

2. Focus on Specialties

If your injury was the result of an oil rig incident, don’t choose a lawyer that specializes in motorcycle accidents. Find a personal injury attorney that specializes in the type of injury you’ve incurred.

3. Listen to Your Gut

Your head might be spinning trying to figure out how to pick a personal injury lawyer. If you’re trying to choose between a few candidates, go with your gut instinct.

Ultimately, you want a lawyer who genuinely cares about you and your well-being. If you see any red flags in your search for the right attorney, move on. You don’t want to wind up with a lawyer who doesn’t have your best interests at heart.

4. Ask the Right Questions

You should meet with several potential candidates before choosing who to hire. Come to the meeting ready to ask questions to get to know the attorney and their processes better.

Here are some great starter questions you should ask:

  • What are your fees?
  • Do you have experience in cases like mine? If so, what were the results of these cases?
  • How much time will it take to resolve my case?
  • What do you believe my case is worth?
  • Do you have any references?
  • Do you believe the case will go to trial?

5. Do Your Research

Even if you’ve read reviews or had an attorney recommended to you, you should still research them.

Contact the local lawyer disciplinary agency to see if they’re in good standing with the state bar. Check if there are any disciplinary actions filed against them.

Visit the Department of Justice Website to find lawyers facing disbarment and suspensions.

How to Find a Personal Injury Lawyer Made Easy

Now that you know how to find a personal injury lawyer, it’s time to hire one. With the right lawyer on your side, you’ll be sure to receive a fair settlement.

Have you made a personal injury claim before? Tell us your story in the comments section below. You never know who your experience will be able to help.
