Even during his post-legendary Hollywood status, Mel Gibson has been consistently delivering the goods with films like Edge of Darkness, Get The Gringo, Blood Father, Dragged Across Concrete, and his directorial comeback, Hacksaw Ridge (we have yet to see The Professor and the Madman and Force of Nature). Now, Gibson is back with another catchy project titled Fatman.
Fatman centers on a rowdy, unorthodox Santa Claus (Gibson) who is fighting his business decline. Though billed as a comedy, the Trailer puts into play that it’s more of a dark comedy/actioner filled with gunfights and villainous children.
The film also stars Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight, Justified) and Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Without a Trace, Blindspot), and is directed and written by Eshom Nelms and Ian Nelms, a pair who are perhaps best known for cult indie favorite Waffle Street.
Fatman releases on November 13, 2020. Don’t miss the film’s recent Trailer below:
Post-Hollywood legendary status? aka after his Anti-Semitic Tirade?
I’m still waiting for his film about a ghost who wins the lottery!
DAY 1 ! ! !
You can safely skip Forces Of Nature. Mel’s role amounts to an extended cameo and the majority of screen time is hogged by that dude from Speed Racer. Unless you’re a hardcore fan of the ‘BUILDING UNDER SIEGE” or ‘DISASTER FLICK CROSSED WITH ACTION MOVIE” sub-genres and even if you are I’d recommend THE DOORMAN for the former and THE HURRICANE HEIST for the latter as both are far more competently executed.
But I am jazzed for FATMAN that trailer is cool!
KayKay – okay, so, regardless of Mel’s part being a limited cameo, is it a decent movie? I’ve never seen any of those movies you mentioned, so it’s hard for me to tell.
The ending is really anti climatic as well.
I’ll be catching FATMAN for sure.
JJ, well I’d say if you can overlook how the movie wastes Mel or how the promising set ups in the first half are criminally squandered in the second, then I guess it’s an ok-ish watch for a rainy day when you’re not exactly in the most discerning of moods. It is fairly short and the pacing is decent with a couple of competently if not spectacularly executed action scenes.
Most amusing thing about this movie is how it’s ultra-low budget manages to step around a key plot point: That locked inside a room is ferocious, vicious beast. You know those movies where a bright light in the sky and the sound of a helicopter makes up for the fact the budget didn’t extend to actually being able to hire one? Well, this movie applies similar techniques for it’s “creature”:-)
“You know those movies where a bright light in the sky and the sound of a helicopter makes up for the fact the budget didn’t extend to actually being able to hire one” lol Yep. Thanks for the further explanation. It’s on Netflix (or Prime, I forget), so I might as well give it a shot. Worse comes to worse, I can always stop it and watch Welcome to Sudden Death instead. =)
Loved Small Town Crime (2017) can’t wait for this ! looks awesome.
