The super charismatic Ma Dong-seok, aka Don Lee (Unstoppable, Champion, Along with the Gods), who practically stole the show in 2016’s Train to Busan, co-stars in Marvel’s Eternals, an upcoming adventure that tells the story of Eternals, a race of immortal beings who lived on Earth and shaped its history and civilizations.

Eternals is directed by acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Chloé Zhao, who is perhaps best known for 2020’s Nomadland, which took home best director, best movie and best actress at the Oscars.

The director teased her creative freedom with the project: “I shot exactly the way I wanted to shoot. On location. A lot of magic hour. Three-hundred-sixty degrees on the same camera as I did on Nomadland. Same rigs. It’s a bit surreal. I’m still waiting for the shoe to drop. It hasn’t. I think I got lucky in that Marvel wants to take risks and do something different” (via Collider).

The South Korean star will appear alongside Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians), Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick), Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead), Brian Tyree Henry (Godzilla vs. Kong), Salma Hayek (Everly), Lia McHugh (American Woman), Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk), Angelina Jolie (Cyborg 2) and Kit Harington (Pompeii).

Eternals hits theaters on November 5, 2021. Until then, here’s a New Featurette, as well as a recent TV Spot:

Magic Hour? Take risks? Sorry to sound bitter but these days indie filmmakers these big studios grab are just another part of the PR machine used to spout off things we like to hear. Who gives a shit about magic hour when a majority of your screen is overloaded with CGI made by the same 3 vfx houses out there? It’s just another studio exec driven product where everything is already in place before it all begins, the script and characters are set in stone; an inexperienced director is just another cog they insert last minute whom they can mold to their liking. Long gone are the days of director driven projects where they are in on the conception of the film from the ground up with a story they want to tell or a vision wholly their own.

People said the same about Shang-Chi, and that turned out really well. Eternals can go either way, but there’s a chance it could succeed. Chloe Zhao looks to be more than just a “hired gun” on this project, and I’m willing to give it a chance.
