RELEASE DATE: November 28, 2023
On November 28, 2023, Discotek Media is releasing the Blu-ray (Region A) for Junya Sato’s The Bullet Train, the 1975 actioner starring Ken Takakura (Golgo 13) and Sonny Chiba (Fighting Fist) that inspired the 1994 Hollywood blockbuster Speed.
A criminal (Ken Takakura) plants a bomb on a high-speed train, and unless ransom is paid, the train will explode once it slows down. Now, it’s up to the train’s conductor (Sonny Chiba) to keep the train moving until the police track the bad guy!
Discotek Media’s Blu-ray will include Japanese track with newly revised subtitles, the US English dubbed version, plus an interview with director Junya Sato.
Note: UK label Eureka recently released their own Blu-ray (Region B) version of The Bullet Train, which is currently available at Goodie Emporium.

Boring like most of the 70’s Japanese big movies.
Put out the full 150′ versin of Virus instead, or The castle of sand (best cop movie ever?)!
It’s an interesting thing about Japanese cinema. (Even TV and anime for that matter.) Even the really popular ones are considered “slow and boring.” Sometimes it’s all about what the individual audience member is going to tolerate or give a chance to.
Sometimes I think the faster paced Japanese films were meant for a wider audience.
I am curious how the inspiration for Speed is gonna play out.
