Post-production for the highly-acticapted Chinese actioner The Guardian (aka Patron Saint: Desperate Rescue) is currently underway from Jimmy Henderson, the mastermind director behind 2017’s hit martial arts film, Jailbreak.
The Guardian features rising action stars Gu Shangwei (The Prey), Jean-Paul Ly (Nightshooters, Jailbreak) and Charlie Ruedpokanon (The Driver), and Hong Kong action legends, Eric Tsang (Golden Job), Waise Lee (A Better Tomorrow) and Andy On (Undercover Punch and Gun) – with action choreography by Du Jinghai and Dara Bokator (Jailbreak)
Written by Gao Yan (Wolf Warrior 2), In the Guardian follows Gao Ran (Gu Shangwei), a widowed underdog boxer who throws fights in order to raise his daughter, Coco, while often tangling with her father in law, Lao Ye, who wants custody. When Coco suddenly goes missing, Gao’s unrelenting search unearths a human trafficking network where he will stop at nothing to save Coco once and for all, and he won’t be treading lightly (via FCS).
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more. For now, watch the Jailbreak Trailer one more time:
“A reluctant boxer/kickboxer, a scared child clutching on to her teddy bear, well-groomed gangsters, fancy cars on fire, assassins on motorcycles, military-style dudes dangling off helicopters, exploding buildings, and even a hint of the “apocalyptic” sub-genre are thrown in.”
Don’t forget the obligatory CGI flames!
Super stoked for this ! Ma Boi JP is in this 🙂
