A sequel to Mikael Håfström’s Escape Plan, the 2013 prison/action flick starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, is making its way to Blu-ray & DVD on June 29, 2018.
In the follow up, titled Escape Plan 2: Hades, Stallone reprises his role as security expert Ray Breslin, who uses his skills to test out the reliability of maximum security prisons. Unfortunately, Schwarzenegger will not be turning.
Escape Plan 2: Hades co-stars Dave Bautista (Kickboxer: Vengeance), Jaime King, Jesse Metcalfe, Wes Chatham, 50 Cent, Daniel Bernhardt (Kill ’em All) and Huang Xiaoming (Ip Man 2, League of Gods).
Escape Plan 2: Hades is directed by Steven C. Miller (Marauders, Extraction) and written by Miles Chapman (Escape Plan, Road House 2: Last Call).
Even though Escape Plan 2 hasn’t even been released, post-production for Escape Plan 3: Devil’s Station is in full effect. Directed by John Herzfeld (2 Days in the Valley), Escape Plan 3 will once again have Stallone and Bautista headlining. Featured new cast members include Max Zhang (SPL 2, Ip Man 3), Harry Shum Jr. (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon II) and Russell Wong (Contract to Kill). John Herzfeld (2 Days in the Valley) is directing.
A Trailer for Escape Plan 2 is expected soon. But if you want to dive in head first, you can pre-order the film at Amazon.
Fuck me, Steven C Miller? He’s terrible! Marauders is an incompetent pile of trash where everyone wanders around aimlessly like the undead, and Extraction was a poor attempt at high octane action.
I thought Stallone was finished with DTV shit. Escape Plan was a surprisingly decent flick which should have done better at the box office. This direction is not doing anyone favors.
Stallone doesn’t play a major role in part 2 as Dave Bautista is the main character. It’s bizarre that Escape Plan 3 is already done filming but we have not even seen a trailer for part 2.
So they’re releasing this straight to home video in the US?
Looks to me these big studios have resorted to making those “big budget” dogshit movies for the foreign market alone because they know it might flop domestically. The Asian market nowadays buys into literally any bad Hollywood franchise, no matter how bad the movie is as long as it says Fast & Furious, Jurassic World or [Insert Superhero] on the name. A movie with Stallone and Batista, two similarly well known names, with a couple Chinese actors added in is just what they need to make a killing in the Chinese box office. But at the end of the day, its still dogshit.
Tell us how you really feel! 😛
I am for one kind of flabbergasted that this is going straight to video, but I suppose it makes sense. As much as we action fans feel like Stallone is our bread n’ butter, his films as of late haven’t exactly set the North American box office afire. In fact, each Expendables movie has grossed less than the one before it, with The Expendables 3 bringing in a paltry $39 million during its theatrical release. And the original Escape Plan made even less than that.
Sadly, we may not see Stallone on the big screen again until Guardians of the Galaxy III…
The trailer looks kind of good, and I would like to be wrong about Steven C Miller.
