Today’s Deal on Fire is the Blu-ray for The Wailing, a South Korean thriller directed by Na Hong-jin (The Chaser, The Yellow Sea).
When a series of unexplainable, gruesome murders take place in a rural village, an incompetent cop starts a chaotic investigation. Things get seriously personal when his young daughter is directly affected by this deadly phenomenon. The only suspect is a Japanese hermit who recently relocated from Japan at the very same time slaughters began to happen; and the only clue is a poisonous mushroom which turns up at every crime scene. Are these murders committed by a human being or sparked by a mysterious force of nature?
The Wailing stars Hwang Jeong-min (Veteran), Kwak Do-won (Tazza: The Hidden Card), and Japanese actor Jun Kunimura (Why Don’t You Play in Hell?), in the role that Beat Takeshi (Beyond Outrage) was originally attached to.

I’m so hyped for this.
THE CHASER is the best thriller of the last decade. And THE YELLOW SEA is superb as well.
I’m with you all the way, CJ.
Couldn’t agree more.
Oh now this looks excellent.
I saw it and loved it. Can I be that guy and ask someone to explain it to me please.
SPOILER:
I was with it until the shot of the shaman putting the box of the Japanese guy’s photos in his car. What did that mean?
I know what you’re talking about, and it’s unexplainable (as far as I know!) Spoiler: As I mentioned in my review, the movie does this thing where it points you in the wrong directions purposely. Gets you thinking, only to realize you’re wrong and you’ll never know. I’m usually not a fan of that type of stuff, but somehow, it works for this flick!
