The Crow | 4K UHD (Paramount)

RELEASE DATE: May 7, 2024

On May 7, 2024, Paramount is releasing the 4K Ultra HD for The Crow, a 1994 thriller from director Alex Proyas (I, Robot) that stars Brandon Lee (Legacy of Rage, Rapid Fire) and Ernie Hudson (The Ghostbusters). The film is often overshadowed by the death of Lee, who was tragically wounded on set.

Based on a series of cult comic books by James O’Barr, The Crow stars Lee as Eric Draven, a rock guitarist who is killed, along with his fiancée, on the eve of their wedding and returns from the dead as “The Crow” to seek revenge.

The Crow also stars David Patrick Kelly (Warriors), Michael Wincott (Nope), Rochelle Davis (Revenge of the Devil Bat), Bai Ling (Maximum Impact), Jon Polito (Miller’s Crossing), Laurence Mason (True Romance), Tony Todd (Candyman), Michael Massee (Seven) and Sofia Shinas (Ripper Man).

We’re expecting this 4K UHD (pre-order link) release to somewhat coincide with the upcoming release of the The Crow reboot, which is also due for release this year.

  • NEW! 4K RESTORATION OF THE FILM
  • NEW! Shadows & Pain: Designing The Crow
    • Angels All Fire: Birth of the Legend
    • On Hallowed Ground: The Outer Realm

If only the director’s cut could made. Stupid legal bullshit!

  2. Ningen says:

    It’s getting a theatrical re-release. https://youtu.be/LhuAoTRmMBA?si=_MB8-oEXEFnWPupd

  3. Ska Martes says:

Unlike Cameron’s total botch job on True Lies/Abyss/Aliens, this remaster doesn’t try to pretend it was made yesterday…and all the better for it. I don’t want to say films used to better in the old days but come on….just the soundtrack with The Cure, NiN, Stone temple Pilots etc puts this above 95% of the sheet that passes as “action” or a summer popcorn blockbuster either at the theater or $hitflix

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

I didn’t know James Cameron’s films on 4K UHD came out bad. Were they rushed or something?

People always talk about “the good ole days,” but there was still a lot of shit that got released back then. It’s just evolved over time. In spite of it all, good action films are still getting made, and this year has been pretty generous so far. I don’t know if the new Crow will continue that trend since it can go either way, but we’ll see.

      • Ska Martes says:

the ratio of good to bad is probably the same but as a kid in the 90s you could only watch what you could rent/borrow from friends. Now as an adult with $hitflix you end up watching alot more crap than before.

As for Cameron, like all geniuses that get old, they make dumb decsions they would never make in their prime. These 4k discs have been in the making for years now but everyone was disappointed how crap the PQ was. Abyss is ok, only because its the first time theres been a semi decent version of the special edition. True Lies has been color graded differently and all the film grain removed. Aliens also color graded differently , grain removed and then a layer of vaseline on top. At some points in the movie, it looks the same as my 2003 DVD upscaled

        • Andrew Hernandez says:

I have a couple of 4Ks, and that’s only because they’re special editions. I don’t know if I’ll jump on the 4K train unless I get a big-ass home theatre.

I’ll have to check out the Cameron ones myself. I thought my double disk DVD of The Abyss and Aliens had great picture quality, so I can’t imagine the 4K looking worse.

It’s possible that Cameron had nothing to do with these recent releases (Maybe Aliens?) otherwise he’d have supervised the transfers and added more special features.

          • Ska Martes says:

thats the thing. the 4k blurays took so long to come out Cameron supervised the grading and transfer himself inbetween making Avatar 323 and 324. I don’t they look worse than DVD but its way below acceptable quality. When you buy a 88 films/arrow/eureka remaster of a golden harvest movie, its a big upgrade from you 1990s Megastar HK DVD/UK HK legends disc. Alot of these 4k blurays look worse than the 1080p blurays that came out 10 years cos the trend is to remove film grain and grade the color so it looks good on a $400 tv from walmart
