Now available is Eureka’s Blu-ray (Region A/B) for A Man Called Tiger, a 1973 Golden Harvest classic from Lo Wei (Slaughter in San Francisco) and Jimmy Wang Yu (The Tattooed Dragon) .

Starring Jimmy Wang Yu (The One-Armed Swordsman) and directed by Lo Wei, the man behind the smash-hit Bruce Lee vehicles The Big Boss and Fist of FuryA Man Called Tiger is a martial arts extravaganza released at the height of an international kung fu craze.

Chin Fu (Wang Yu) is a formidable martial artist who suspects his father’s apparent suicide was actually a cold-blooded murder. His desire for answers – and revenge – leads him to Japan, where he becomes entangled with the yakuza. With the aid of his fellow countryman Liu Han-ming (James Tien, Hand of Death) and a nightclub hostess (Maria Yi, Fist of Fury), Chin Fu sets out to infiltrate Tokyo’s underworld, expose a criminal conspiracy and uncover his father’s true fate by any means necessary.

Long rumoured to have been planned as the third collaboration between Lo Wei and Bruce Lee before Lee made his directorial debut with The Way of the DragonA Man Called Tiger instead became a vehicle for another martial arts superstar in Jimmy Wang Yu.     I’ve never been a Jimmy Wang Yu fan, for my taste he falls short in skill, charm, & charisma compared to, say, Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan, but I may buy this kind of out of curiosity; wasn’t this movie originally intended to be a Bruce Lee project? And it co-stars James Tien & Maria Yi? Yeah, I kind of want to see it.

      Dude. Trust me. I’m not the biggest Jimmy Wang Yu fan either, even thought he does have some decent films here and there. But this film? It’s really damn good, especially for a Lo Wei film that isn’t starring Bruce. Worth the purchase
