You have NO IDEA how much this post update means to me!

I just finished watching Ip Man 3. I left the theatre feeling so conflicted because this has been touted as the final film in the trilogy. With that said, It just doesn’t bring any closure to source material in my eyes. All Ip Man 3 did was leave me with the desire to see more of Donnie’s portrayal of Yip Man in another chapter in his life of the title character. I want to see Yip and his relationship with Jun Fan or how he continues life after the events of the third film.

Wait a sec. A Flash Point sequel! O.O

No disrespect to Yen at all, but i’m not sure if he’s still in his prime for another go. I’d sure like to be proven wrong though lol!

    • ORBICULAR PECULIAR says:

Um yes…that was a disrespect to Donnie Yen. Im sure he’s in his prime now & is probably more in shape than you sitting behind your computer screen. Not to mention he’s still a young actor to play IP. Master IP was an older man. I’d suggest leaving out disrespectful comments. It also contradicted your excitement, you seem confused. Donnie is on fire right now. He puts out some of the best movies. He is most definitely finer with age! When you announce “no disrespect” before hand, that really means you’re about to disrespect. Same as someone who says “to be honest” they’re about to tell you something dishonest. Thought I’d pass that wisdom on. I took this to be disrespectful, so Im sure it is to him. I can’t wait to see this movie. Donnie is gonna shred!

      • Jahda says:

Yea no he’s definitely not in his prime anymore…… he’s also not a “young” actor, he’s in his mid 50’s for crying out loud. He might be in shape but not to the degree of when he was younger. I’m also not sure if he’s able to perform as well for future movies to come but I guess we’ll just have to see. The dudes statment before was not disrespectful at all, your just butt hurt from an opinion lol.

    • Mark Silver says:

where can I find the DVD for Ip Man 4 with Donnie Yen. I thought I had ordered it “Ip Man the final fight, but it is staring Anthong Wong as Yip Man

  2. Ningen21 says:

So, at this point Ip Man is now becoming this generation’s Once Upon A Time in China series. 🙂

  3. Andrew Hernandez says:

I’d be in favor of another Donnie Ip Man as long as they stop going the route of the Rocky sequels.

Maybe they can do a movie where he and Danny Chan are a duo with Ip passing the torch to Bruce.

  4. Zach says:

Well now I feel like a dummy because I mostly viewed Ip man 3 as the final film. But, it’s nice to know now that there will be a fourth, and that the 3rd one, which always felt like just another installment, will become what it is, another installment, albeit one that brings Ip Man down to our level and makes him relatable again through his relationship issues. With the announcement of Ip Man 4, and the new Ip Man spin-off with Max Zhang, it looks like the Ip craze just won’t go away. But I’m still excited.

  5. HKFanatic says:

Would it be uncouth to say “Wake me up when Flash Point 2 is coming out”…? I’m not sure what the popular opinion is, but “Ip Man 3” registered as a major disappointment to me. The plot felt totally scattershot and somehow the filmmakers let Max Zhang upstage Donnie Yen in most of the fight scenes…

    • I’m all for a Ip Man 4, but I’ll really be wide awake when Donnie Yen teams up with director Peter Chan again. 🙂 I agree, I probably liked Ip Man 3 more than you, but I feel it was the weakest of the three.

      • HKFanatic says:

Wilson Yip is the man, but I would kinda love to see him stretch his wings and see if he can do a hardcore action movie without Donnie Yen, maybe turn out something like Dante Lam’s “Operation Mekong.”

Peter Chan is indeed a really diverse filmmaker who hasn’t been prolific enough. “Wu Xia” is one of Donnie Yen’s best films, without question.

    • LalY says:

What kind of nonsense, I’m sorry? Most fight scenes ??? Where when?? Do you remember his fight with the master with an umbrella? No? No one remembers))) What else? Mass brawl? It must have seemed a dangerous rival to the final fight was more tense. It was treated in the computer 80%, lol. Crowd scenes at the shipyard …. when Yip Man was surrounded by the crowd and fought inside the ship … how interesting finds there were and how many objects were used … oh … the battle with the Thais, with Mike Tyson !!! In addition, at the end in a battle with Max himself, it is clear how much he is slower than Donnie… There where Max acted simply on the limit, to Donnie was easy and not by constraint)))

“Some prefer to call me the IP MAN.

lol…..i feel sorry for the real Ip Man -____-

  8. Jimmmy P says:

I would love to see Jackie and Donnie in a film together again. I always thought that Shanghai Knights, while Chan’s best American film, the final showdown between the two was short but not very sweet. I hope that they can do better than the third Ip Man though. While I found the film to be entertaining enough, the fight scenes, except for the short but sweet fight between Yen and Mike Tyson, were standard fair. I want the fight scenes from the first two films back, Bring back Sammo.

  9. xino says:

    that would be cool man.
i can see why, they would do this so that the movie makes a hit.
Ip Man 3 was with Mike Tyson, so with Jackie Chan, it is basically Donnie vs Jackie, and people would wanna see this fight

  10. ToryK says:

😳 WHAT? I need to list these things out, just to clarify for myself:
-Ip Man 4 is officially on.
    -Wilson Yip is still onboard.
-We get a continuation of the Yuen/Yen teacher/student reunion.
-And, having said all that and keeping in mind that this series is the most legitimate martial arts film series going today, Scott Adkins has ascended to the heights of the Gods who inspired him – he’s going to be throwing down with THE Donnie Yen in a film choreographed by THE Yuen Woo-Ping.

This has taken on meta levels of awesome.

  11. Andrew Hernandez says:

Seeing the Facebook picture of Scott and Donnie was a real pleasure. I hope they’re given a main event of a fight scene.

I wonder what this film will be about. I thought it would deal with Ip Man finally teaching Bruce Lee and ending up on another adventure.

  12. “The two previously fought on-screen in 2003’s Shanghai Knights.”

Don’t forget they also faced off against each other in ‘The Twins Effect II’ a year later.

So, it looks like Chan’s going to be playing Bruce Lee? 😛

  13. Shadow says:

Here is the uncut fight scene from Shanghai Knights, with Donnie and Jackie, this version should be in a movie!!!

  14. Andrew Hernandez says:

I wonder if the stuff about Jackie is still true. The way the movie has been talked about online, it seems like Scott Adkins is the main opponent, and having Jackie would seem too good to be true.

If he is, I’m sure he can still have a very good fight with Donnie even if it’s not “balls to the wall.”

The uncut and uninterrupted fight in Shanghai Knights was great stuff. I couldn’t believe the filmmakers shortened it because of “time constraints.” What a load.

The Twins Effect II fight scene was just a joke. I couldn’t believe they lifted direct shots and moves from Donnie’s fight with Jet Li in Hero, and on top of that still filmed it badly.

    • ToryK says:

I remember that being a huge part of why I got into Hong Kong cinema as a kid. I caught Rumble in the Bronx when it hit the States (I think I was…6?), and then Police Story 3, and I remember, vividly, the impression Jackie left on me. I’d never seen anyone like him. Part of turning into a film geek as you grow older is appreciating all of a film’s moving parts. Understanding that there were good and bad ways to design an action scene was a revelation for me, and it wasn’t hard to notice that one side of the pond saw the action scene as its own art form, while the other often saw it as a burden to be communicated to the audience. That’s where that “time constraints” bullshit comes in. You’d have never heard Jackie, Sammo, or even Stanley Tong say they had the cut parts of the grand finale so they could fit more exposition in. The order in which American action films handle their priorities never ceases to amaze me.

  15. Nikolai Hel says:

GIMME THE FUCKING TRAILER NOW!!!!!! I NEED THIS SHIT!!!! LOL

  16. Samson Kwok says:

We’ll bring you the teaser / trailer as soon as it becomes available!

  17. So this is basically a sequel to ‘Birth of the Dragon’.

    • JJ Bona says:

“So this is basically a sequel to ‘Birth of the Dragon’.” LMAO!

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

Noooo! This will be a remake to wash away the taste of that other film!

    • Michael says:

Although I’m looking forward to the movie, it’s guaranteed to take liberty with what actually happened, as did the previous Ip Man movies to a rather large degree. In reality, Bruce never opened a wing chun school in America and Ip Man never went to visit him either. In fact, after his infamous fight with Wong Jack Man, Bruce came to realize that most kung fu was worthless in a real fight, hence developing his own philosophical and scientific approach to the martial arts, JKD, which has since been bastardized from its original concept. But I digress. I’m very interested to see how they utilize Scott Adkins.

  18. Robert says:

    EXCELLENT DIRECTING.SUPERB ACTORS.CANT WAIT FOR THE MOVIE.IP MAN 4

  19. Eric says:

I wasn’t excited at first for this, but I need a US theatrical release of IP4 to wash off the bad taste I got from seeing “Bruce Lee” in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

  20. Aerosniff Someglue says:

Well. Call me surprise. That trailer is better than the entire Ip Man 3. I’m in! But I still think using Yuen instead of Sammo is a mistake.

  21. Ningen21 says:

Where’s YWP mention of Danny the Dog/Unleashed? That was an underrated film.

  22. Aerosniff Someglue says:

“Yuen Woo-ping ‘The Godfather of Fighting”

Bastards, if Liu Chia-liang passed away in total in difference in 2013, it doesn’t mean he’ll ALWAYS be the ONLY godfather of Fighting.

    • Aerosniff Someglue says:

“Yuen Woo-ping ‘The Godfather of Fighting”

Bastards, the fact that Liu Chia-liang passed away in total indifference in 2013 doesn’t mean he won’t ALWAYS be the REAL godfather of fighting.

  23. Aerosniff Someglue says:

“Yuen Woo-ping ‘The Godfather of Fighting”

Bastards, the fact that Liu Chia-liang passed away in total indifference in 2013 doesn’t mean that he’ll ALWAYS be the true godfather of fight.

  24. Aerosniff Someglue says:

My second comment is the right one, really sorry. I’m an idiot and have two left hands…

  25. Just saw it yesterday. Bad: average and not enough fights, Bruce Lee totally useless again, pitiful bad guys (Scott, please, stay on direct to DVD movies), laughable characters (the dumb and mean blonde college girl who’s acting is atrocious,…),…

Good: Donnie Yen, some othe acting,…

Well, maybe better than the third but not that much, and if I wanna see again a oher aging Ip man movie, this
will be Ip Man: The final fight: a much better script, grest casting (Anthony ails it), the fights are OK even if they lack power (well, Ip Man is old…)

  26. dave says:

Here is my personal review for this IP Man 4.
I do have to say, this movie was phenomenal. The story was great, the acting was great, and the action+fight scenes were awesome. Whats interesting was that this movie was in half in cantonese and half in mandarin which is very interesting. Im glad Well Go USA will both include the dub and the original mixed Chinese language as well. I looking forward to owning a hard copy of this movie.

  27. Zhou says:

Very glad that Well Go USA will include this both original mixed Chinese language and the dub too as well as subtitle in english and chinese too. Very inspiring movie about a Martial artist that had cancer.
