“Rambo V” Teaser Poster
This Friday, Lionsgate Enterainment is unleashing Rambo V: Last Blood, the follow up to 2008’s 4th Rambo movie, starring Sylvester Stallone as the ultimate killing machine.
The film is directed by Adrian Grunberg, the filmmaker best-known for directing the 2012 Mel Gibson actioner Get the Gringo – and written by both Matt Cirulnick (Paid in Full) and Stallone (Rambo 4).
This time around, John Rambo (Stallone) takes on the Mexican drug cartels (headed by Sergio Peris-Mencheta) after they kidnap his friend’s daughter, Gabrielle (Yvette Monreal).
Back in January 2016, it was reported (via Variety) that Stallone would be retiring from playing Rambo. “It’s like fighters that go back for one last round and get clobbered. Leave it to someone else,” said Stallone. “There’s nothing left. When they asked me to do another Rambo, I said, ‘If I can’t do better than I did last time, and I can’t, then why’?”, he added. Prior to his statement, Stallone had numerous ideas for a Rambo V. One of them pitted Rambo against experimental Universal Soldier-like enemies.
In 2013, producer Avi Lerner conspired to turn Rambo into a TV series with Stallone reprising his role as John Rambo for television, an idea that ultimately fizzled. Then in 2015, word from Deadline came that Fox locked in a deal for Rambo: New Blood, which would explore the complex relationship between Rambo (not played by Stallone) and his son, J.R., an ex-Navy SEAL. On October 2016, an update came from THR that Rambo: New Blood was still in motion – not as a TV series – but as a movie to be helmed by Ariel Vromen (Criminal).
In the end, Stallone reverted back to bringing iconic character back to the big screen for one more adventure.

Yeah, I’m down for Rambo anything. But I’d rather see a Rambo V: The Movie than some TV series. If it weren’t for the awesomeness of Rambo 4, I’d say otherwise. R4 has to be one of the best action films of the last 10 years. Easy.
Looks like Stallone is not doing it, good news! I hope they will do another big budget film also, but there is nothing confirmed now.
I had a feeling this was for Rambo 5. Statham’s character even has long hair at the beginning. Sly is negotiating Rambo V right now, I wonder what he will do with the character and story next.
This is a wise move. Sly Stallone made up for such a disappointing bomb (Rambo III) and he brought back Rambo as what I think is the best movie he’s made in 20 years. (And I enjoyed The Expendables 1-2, Rocky Balboa) Rambo tied up everything about the character, it got the philosophy right, it was angry and it’s just a great movie. Seriously underrated.
Another one I don’t want them to make is Universal Soldier. Both Universal Soldier Regeneration and Day Of Reckoning are two excellent sequels that don’t need another chapter. In fact, you could put those two movies in a HK classic era shuffle and they’d fit in.
The only one I could see a case for being made is another Undisputed movie but as far as I’m concerned Rambo and Universal Soldier should be left as is, in that you leave with an excellent finale. I mean remember Die Hard 4-5, Terminator 4 (Terminator 3 was meh?) and of course let us not forget Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
So as far as I’m concerned, this is great news.

I like the look of this! Rambo 4 was just the right sendoff, and I was hoping the series wouldn’t go the route of Die Hard 5. Stallone may be in good shape for an old guy, but I hope this truly is the finale.
At first, I thought Last Blood was going to be about the cops or feds coming after Rambo for what happened in First Blood. I’m sure that would have been a hard sell.

Just watched this the other day. Enjoyed it. Wasn’t as good as the last Rambo film, but still very VERY solid and brutally violent. It has what action films like John Wick are missing: Heart (sometimes literally…)
