Damn, Gina! Cult director Uwe Boll eyes MMA star Gina Carano for ‘Citizen Vigilante’ sequel after viral success

Cult director Uwe Boll (In the Name of the King, Rampage) is currently making headlines with his latest film, Citizen Vigilante, which has become an unlikely viral sensation. The politically charged thriller follows a vigilante (Armie Hammer) who targets undocumented immigrants responsible for deadly crimes, a premise that reportedly led to the film being banned in Germany.

The ban drew the attention of Elon Musk, who shared the film online for free, helping it rack up more than 10.5 million views. After its streaming debut, Citizen Vigilante climbed to the No. 1 spot for digital purchases on both Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video. According to Boll, the film had earned around $600,000 as of June 30, 2026, against a reported production budget of $2 million.

Since making its streaming debut, Boll has been making the rounds on numerous high profile media outlets to promote the film, and its momentum continues to grow with each passing day. In a recent interview, Boll revealed that he sees Citizen Vigilante as the start of a potential franchise. He said he’s already discussed the idea with Hammer and has concepts for a sequel. “If Armie is not out of his mind, he’ll of course come back,” Boll said (via PBD).

Boll also revealed that he would love to bring MMA star Gina Carano (Haywire, Kickboxer: Vengeance) on board for the sequel. Much like Hammer, Carano found herself at the center of controversy after being dropped by Disney from The Mandalorian in 2021 following backlash over social media posts that critics argued were offensive.

“I would totally put her in it,” Boll said. “She [Gina] got cancelled, unjustified, and came back. She’s a good actress and she would be kickass. I feel the second part should have a few guys, maybe not only one person.”

Could this hint at a potential sequel featuring both Hammer and Carano?

🔥 Footnote: The chances of a Citizen Vigilante sequel happening are pretty high, given the amount of press the film has been receiving (a video game is arriving, too!) Besides, Uwe Boll is no stranger to sequels. He made three films in the BloodRayne (2005–2011) saga, three films in the Rampage franchise (2009–2016), and three entries in the In the Name of the King (2007–2014) series. He’s currently working on 23 Years Later: Return to Zombie Island, the official sequel to his 2003 thriller, House of the Dead. With all of this momentum, along with the support of the world’s richest man, a sequel seems almost inevitable.

Citizen Vigilante is currently available via VOD. If you’re a physical media collector, grab a Blu-ray at Yippee Ki‐Yay Mother Video.
