Kitao Sakura – an up and coming filmmaker who is perhaps best known for 2021’s Bad Trip, as well as a handful of episodes of 2023’s Twisted Metal series – is currently hard-at-work putting finishing touches on Legendary/Paramount Pictures’ live-action film adaptation of Capcom’s classic videogame, Street Fighter, which is set to be released on October 16, 2026.
Stars appearing in Street Fighter include Andrew Koji (Snake Eyes) as Ryu; Noah Centineo (The Recruit) as Ken; Roman Reigns aka Joe Anoa’i (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw) as Akuma; Jason Momoa (Aquaman) as Blanka; and musician Orville Peck as Vega.
The film also stars Callina Liang (Presence) as Chun-Li; Comedian Andrew Schulz rumored as Dan Hibiki; David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil) as M. Bison; Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson (Get Rich or Die Tryin’) as Balrog; WWE’s Cody Rhodes (Arrow) as Guile; Vidyut Jammwal (Sanak, Commando) as Dhalsim; professional wrestler Hirooki Goto (Headshot) as E. Honda; and Eric André (Ironheart), as ring announcer Don Sauvage (first appearing in Street Fighter V).
The history of live-action Street Fighter films started in 1994 with the Steven E. de Souza/Jean-Claude Van Damme, which is regarded as one of Van Damme’s highest grossing films of all time, despite being panned by critics and fans alike.
In Hong Kong, Street Fighter was parodied/exploited in both Jackie Chan’s 1992 film, City Hunter and 1993’s Future Cops – both from Hong Kong director Wong Jing.
In 2003, there was talks of a Street Fighter sequel with Van Damme (Guile) returning along with Damian Chapa (Ken) and Byron Mann (Ryu). Both Dolph Lundgren (replacing Van Damme as Guile) and Holly Valance (replacing Kylie Minogue as Cammy) were also attached. Unfortunately, the sequel never saw the light of day.
Instead, 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was born. Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Maximum Impact), it starred Kristin Kreuk, Chris Klein, Robin Shou (Cyprus Tigers), Michael Clarke Duncan and Hong Kong legend, Cheng Pei-pei (Come Drink with Me).
Another live-action reimagining came in the form of 2014’s Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist, a web series – starring Mike Moh (who played Bruce Lee in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood), as Ryu; and Christian Howard as Ken – that was later edited both as a TV series, feature film, and a 2015 follow up, Street Fighter: Resurrection, which added Alain Moussi to the mix.
The newest live-action Street Fighter hits theaters on October 16, 2026.
Check out a new video that reveals fresh footage from the film’s set along with cast interviews about how seriously they are approaching the adaptation. The visit of Street Fighter game director Takayuki Nakayama, who directed Street Fighter V and Street Fighter 6, highlighted the effort, and he said he was pleased with how the series is being handled:
In case you missed it, here’s the recent Teaser Trailer, followed by Character Posters:

I’ve been a fan of Walton Goggins since The Shield, but I don’t see him as M Bison. If he were to accept the role, I would hope he’d be as convincing as possible. If you’re gonna wear a red military style suit, you better be very intimidating and imposing.
Tell me your thoughts on who think should play Bison. I think he can. He has a muscular physique which he can build up Alittle more and he has already played tough guy roles
I think The Rock would be a good good choice.
Kevin Porter played a convincing M Bison in that crossover tribute film Power Rangers Legacy Wars: Street Fighter Beatdown. It would be great if he reprised the role. Alan Ritchson would also be a good choice.
Even though Bison is 5’10, I don’t think having a taller guy portray him would be bad. The only thing I have against Walton Goggins playing him is that he has that Deep South swagger, and it doesn’t really translate well into an international warlord.
I have to look up that cross over movie. It sounds fun. What would you give it on a scale from one to ten my friend
It was a fun solid 7 out of 10. The only reason it doesn’t rate higher is because it’s 8 minutes long, and I wanted more of it.
Isn’t M Bison supposed to be Thai? lol
In series lore he’s got links to Thailand but his nationality still remains unknown.
Daniel Bernhardt or Scott Adkins would be the ideal choices for M Bison. Given their spotlights in recent mainstream releases.
Actually those could work too
Daniel Bernhardt would be great since he has a similar look and had Bison-like characteristics in Hell Hath No Fury. I’d rather see Scott Adkins play someone heroic like Abel or Remy.
M Bison is operates in Thailand, but he’s never had a nationality and has always been portrayed as Caucasian and possibly European.
I love the Rock but he is 6’5″. Bison is 5’11”. Walter Goggins is 5’10”. That means Walter Goggins is closer in height and he could beef up more. He has a very muscular physique
Steven Seagal should be Dan.
I’d rather watch a new anime with the technical qualities of the one from 1994…but with a more comlex and better scenario.
According to Wikipedia Dan Hibiki is Hong Kongese.
I want my Street Fighter characters true to its source material. Sorry.
David Dastmalchian looks more like M Bison than Walton Goggins. I am a little concerned about this cast so far. Roman Reigns might have been good for someone else, but I don’t see any Akuma in him. Will Akuma be changed so that he’s Samoan?
And what made Orville Peck a candidate for Vega? Those damn masks? One would expect Marko Zaror would be a more obvious choice. Jacob Scipio would have been a great Vega too.
And I hope they bring in a great fight choreographer with an impressive resumé. Kenji Tanigaki, Brahim Chab, Tim Man, and Andy along come to mind.
Jon Valera of 87Eleven will be serving as the film’s stunt coordinator, but not sure yet who will be directing the fights.
‘Sonic news’ makes people think it has to do with that other video game movie series…
True, but can’t win ’em all lol (saying “sonic boom” would be too easy)
It’s about time Hollywood take notice of Vidyut! I know Dhalsim stretches, but I hope the movie balances enough of his natural skill along with the special effects.
I am happy Vidyut Jammwal finally got a Role in a Hollywood Movie. It’s overdue now
The unknown actress is Melanie Jarnson, who played Nitara in Mortal Kombat (2021). She recently appeared in Chuck Russell’s reimagining of Witchboard. She’s playing Cammy.

I like this teaser! It looks like the film has the potential to be fun. It also seems like the film makers are partially inspired by Future Cops with the mix of zaniness.
I am liking it so far. It looks fun
The original Street Fighter was fun cheese. I saw it cinemas back in 1994. Raul Julia gave an Oscar worthy performance.
I remember how popular it was here.
