‘Save the Green Planet” Korean Theatrical Poster
The eclectic 2003 South Korean film, Save the Green Planet, is getting a Hollywood remake from CJ Entertainment and producer Ari Aster (director of Hereditary and Midsommar).
And here’s the kicker: Jang Joon-Hwan (Hwayi: A Monster Boy), the helmer of the original, is directing the remake (just like Takashi Shimizu did when he remade his own Ju-on for Hollywood with The Grudge).
The original Save the Green Planet followed a sensitive, blue collar sad sack (Shin Ha-Kyun, Extreme Job) hopped up on conspiracy theories and sci-fi is convinced that aliens have infiltrated human society and are planning to destroy the planet at the next lunar eclipse. He sets out to kidnap his boss to torture him until he confesses to his alien identity and stops the invasion. Of course, its hard to confess to something thats just a delusion in a sick mans mind (via Amazon).

Don’t touch one of my favorite movies of all time and my favorite Korean movie ever. Hwayi: A monster boy was pretty f… good, and 1987 too. The last two were a nice and a big commercial succes in South Korea, why going in the U$A, to remake your first movie almost 20 years after, to destroy your career and disappear?
