Radar Pictures’ highly-actipated reboot of 1989’s Kickboxer, titled Kickboxer: Vengeance (read our review), will finally be hitting the big screen and VOD on September 2nd.
The upcoming film is directed by John Stockwell (In the Blood) and written by Jim McGrath (1990’s Elvis TV series) and Dimitri Logothetis (Wings of the Dragon).
Newcomer Alain Moussi (click here to read our interview with him) takes the lead role of Kurt Sloan (previously played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in the original).
Other stars include WWE star Dave Bautista (The Man with the Iron Fists), UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Gina Carano (Haywire), Darren Shahlavi (Ip Man 2), Jean-Claude Van Damme (Kickboxer), T.J. Storm (Punisher: War Zone), Matthew Ziff (The Martial Arts Kid) and Sara Malakul Lane.
Martial arts star Tony Jaa (Skin Trade) was attached, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Also attached was Scott Adkins (Zero Tolerance, Wolf Warrior), who declined the role of David after realizing how small his role would be. Both of their roles were replaced by Van Damme and the late Darren Shahlavi, respectively.
Kickboxer: Vengeance tells the story of David and Kurt Sloan, the descendants of a well-known Venice, Calif., fighting dynasty. When David wins the Karate World Championship, a promoter lures him to Hong Kong, despite his brother’s protestations that the man is a crook. When Kurt travels to Thailand to meet his brother, he discovers he has died, and seeks his revenge.

Kickboxer is my favorite JCVD flick, but this remake has talent behind it. I guess I’ll just say they’re going to have to work hard to top the original. Actually I like 2 and 4 as well.
I think some people are forgetting Van Damme movies were good because Van Damme was in them. You try to remake them and they will turn into Hollywood junk, trying to steal the glory from the original films. That should be a crime, as 90% of remakes are crap anyway. They are going to remake Bloodsport, now Kickboxer…I won’t be rushing to support these films. They can’t come up with new ideas anymore, so every film now is just a ripoff of a ripoff, or a ripoff with a different title. I guarantee these remakes won’t be as good as the original, just leave them alone and come up with something new already.
Oh god… This just stinks.
When I think of Sifu, I think of old guy. Tony Jaa is not old yet, why is he playing a sifu already? You are breaking the kung fu movie rule!!!!
You bleed like Mylee, Mylee good fuck. Can someone clue me into what Tang Lo means by this? I’ve never had intercourse so this phrase flew by me, anyone clue me in please, thanks.

NOS GUSTARIA QUE PUSIERA MAS NOTICIAS DE TONY JAA
I don’t think Adkins and Jaa pulling out means that the film is definetely going to suck, but it is a little dissapointing. I’ll certainly still be curious to see it. I just hope the fights a filmed well with no ‘shaky cam’ quick cuts diguising the choreography.
OpiumkungfuAsshole, I can’t quite tell if you’re being serious or not, but just to be nice I’ll explain.
Mylee is the name of Xian’s neice who Kurt has fallen for. Tong Po kidnapped and raped her. The bleeding part is either suggesting that he was just aggressive with her and caused her to bleed, or she was a virgin and Tong Po took her virginity (when the hymen is broken on a women’s first penetration it can sometimes be painful and bleed). Although if he’s saying Kurt ‘bleeds like Mylee’ it kind of sounds like he’s suggesting that Kurt is bleeding from his vagina.
LOL, ruthless!!
John Stockwell?! I take back what I said before, It probably will suck.
Gina Carano is a quality screen fighter but her fights looked terrible in In The Blood because Stockwell went all shaky cam on the fight scenes.
Isaac Florentine (Undisputed 2 & 3, Ninja 1 & 2) would have been a better choice. He may not be a particularly talented director, but at least he has a healthy respect and enthusiasm for the importance of good fight scenes in a martial arts film.

Jaa’s got a crappy agent, and needs to fire him, fast.

Scott Adkins should of got the job then Alan moussi
I could swear Adrien Brody was in this, too. But I checked the IMDB credits, and I guess it’s not the case.
Not sure if you’re joking or not, but it looks like it’s clips of multiple movies, which explains some of the other actors.
If only Stephen Fung had stayed attached the movie may have been good.
