Ricky Hui Koon-Ying died of a heart attack on November 8, 2011 at the age of 65. Ricky Hui often acted with his brothers Michael and Sam (the trio were dubbed “The Hui Brothers”). He and his brothers made several comedy blockbusters in the 1970s and 1980s, their most famous title being 1976’s Private Eyes.

    Thanks for covering this. Weirdly enough, I was just finishing my first review of a Ricky Hui film when I heard the news.

    This is sad news for all his fans around the world. He was a really reliable source of quiet humor in all his films.

    2011 is just a crappy year for some of the old school Asian film talent (Alan Tang, Kim Tai Chung, and now Ricky Hui)… all so young too.

    Yes, I agree. Alan Tang especially was so important to the evolution of Hong Kong cinema, and he was even younger than Ricky Hui when he died!
