The search for Lo Lieh’s 1976 cult classic, The Big Boss Part II – an unofficial sequel to the 1971 Bruce Lee classic, The Big Boss – is finally over! Back in 2014, the film had a one-night-only showing at Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, but unless you lived in the area, news of this limited engagement was nothing but a lost opportunity for the rest of world.

But now, The Big Boss Part II, one of the most sought after kung fu titles ever, is being released in Severin’s upcoming The Game of Clones: Bruceploitation Collection Vol 1.

The Big Boss Part II practically picks up on location in Thailand where original The Big Boss left off. Bruce Le (Challenge of the Tiger) takes over the role of Cheng Chiu On (Bruce Lee), who is now in jail for the events portrayed in the first film. Lo Lieh (Five Fingers of Death), who plays his brother, is the center character who gets heavily involved involved with another breed of local baddies. The film also stars Michael Chan Wai Man (The Handcuff), Krung Srivilai (H-Bomb) and Wong Ping (Vengeance!).

Interestingly enough, The Big Boss Part II was directed by Chan Chue, who played the surviving manager in the original (the guy who says “No profit in ice, but dope, plenty” in the English dubbed version).

Of course, The Big Boss Part II shouldn’t be confused with Dragon Lee’s similarly-titled The Big Boss 2, which was a re-title of Dragon Lee Fights Again, a movie that has no connection with the original. If anything, it was more of a Fist of Fury copycat.

The big question is, will The Big Boss Part II be worth the wait? Personally, my expectations are so low that it will be a win-win no matter what! =)

    • JJ Bona says:

We’ll be one of the first to report it when it does. So check back often. 🙂 We’ve been waiting forever.

      • Dani says:

I’m one of the first who’d like to buy it plus meny other people that i know from the kung fu fandom like shaolinchamber. I use to be one of the members of the old fandom group called houndslow team. We’ve tried to get the english dubbed version pf it from a guy in southafrica but apparently he was not interested in releasing it guess he lacked reals for it.Anyways it would be great watching it in mandarin with engl subs.I really hope there’s going to be a release of it. Michael Worth it’ll be worth it 🙂

        • Good old globe and his South African horde. 😛 I have all the releases Houndslow put out by the way, just sorry that you guys stopped before releasing ‘The Phantom Thief’!

          • Dani says:

Hehe I remember u Paul think I send u the sub version of canton viper with my old buddies from houndslowteam plus some other movies we made subs for.
The phantom thief I got on VHS sadly it needs to be brushed up and worked on needs subs etc… one other sad thing about the tape is the audio, u can hardly hear what they are saying so the audio needs to be upgraded to (somehow) =P
I got no technical equipment nor do I know how to do that with my limited knowledge of brushing and refurbishing an old vhs tape.

    • Eric Heng says:

as the article clearly states it will be available when the blu ray comes out

  2. Killer Meteor says:

Nothing suggests this film is any good at all…and yet I want it! Shut up and take my money!

  3. Jack J says:

I’ve written about this film on my blog, “Backyard Asia”, from time to time over the past ten years -.and about my frustration of not being able to find the bloody film! Hopefully it WILL get a bluray (or even dvd) release some day!

  4. Killer Meteor says:

It’s weird how rare this is. You would have thought it would have done the rounds on VHS back in the day, given its Bruce Lee pedigree.

There was a Big Boss II on video and DVD in the UK, but that was a retitle of a Dragon Lee film.

  5. Aerosniff Someglue says:

Probably another aweful movie loved by Craptino.

“one of the most sought after kung fu titles ever”
Funniest thing I’ve read in weeks, thanks!

    • Killer Meteor says:

It is sought after, but no-one expects it to be any good. The trailer has been around for years online and makes the film looking boring as sin.

      I still wanna see it!

  6. Danilo says:

Has anybody seen the 47 min vhs of it floating around on tube?
