RELEASE DATE: October 13, 2020
On October 13, 2020, Unearthed Films is releasing the Blu-ray & DVD for The Untold Story (aka Bunman), a 1993 Hong Kong film from cult director Herman Yau (Shock Wave, Ebola Syndrome) that stars Danny Lee (Run and Kill) and Anthony Wong (Still Human).
In 1978 in Hong Kong, a grisly murder takes place. Eight years later, on a Macao beach, kids discover the severed hands of a fresh victim. A squadron of coarse, happy-go-lucky cops investigate, and suspicion falls on Wong Chi Hang, the new owner of Eight Immortals Restaurant, which serves delicious pork bun. The hands belong to the missing mother of the restaurant’s former owner; he and his family have disappeared; staff at the restaurant continue to go missing; and, Wong can’t produce a signed bill of sale: but there’s no evidence. The police arrest Wong and try to torture him into a confession. Can they make him talk? And what was in those pork buns?

Oh man, I read Martin Sandison’s review several months ago, and was disappointed to see how hard-to-find this movie is. I’m happy that it’s getting a new Blu-Ray release, this is a day-1 purchase for me. I gotta see it.
I love how Danny Lee has girls draped over him in every scene because he was fighting gay rumours in the tabloids at the time.
I guess the Special edition dvd from Tai Seng must be real expensive now? I’m not a fan of most category III films but I support their re-release.
One of many aspects that kept me from this one was reading about the audio commentary where Anthony Wong states that the rape scenes add nothing to the movie and are just there to please the men in the audience.
Anthony Wong is famous for saying some really weird stuff.
Oh yeah, he’s eccentric. He once said that Freddy Krueger is his role model.
Is that a re-release of the Tai Seng trailer?
That’s what it looks like to me. (I always been a fan of this very Trailer. Tai Seng’s English language trailers were done pretty well, considering what they had to work with!)
Actually… it’s a total re-cut of the Tai Seng trailer with the new scan we did. We just used the original audio for it. 🙂

Stephen, great choice in Trailer. Definitely brings back memories of the 90s when a lot of us were still discovering HK cinema. Tai Seng did a great job with those trailers!
