Today, Jean-Claude Van Damme is heading to Netflix for the action-comedy titled The Last Mercenary, a French-made film that marks the star’s first ever feature film project with a streaming service.
In The Last Mercenary, Van Damme (Kill ’em All, Double Impact) plays a mysterious former secret service agent who must urgently return to France when his estranged son (Samir Decazza) is falsely accused of arms and drug trafficking by the government, following a blunder by an overzealous bureaucrat (Alban Ivanov) and a mafia operation (via Deadline).
Produced by Forecast Pictures’, The Last Mercenary is helmed by David Charhon (On the Other Side of the Tracks), who co-writes with Ismaël Sy Savané (Lascars TV series). Additional co-stars include Assa Sylla, Patrick Timsit, Eric Judor and Miou-Miou.
The Last Mercenary is just one of the projects fans are expecting from the action icon. Van Damme also teased that he’s working on a final “big martial arts film“, in addition to the unreleased Full Love/Eagle Path, which has been semi-completed for nearly 10 year.s
The Last Mercenary is currently streaming. Check out the film’s Trailer below:
Really excited for this actually, don’t know why but the production has vibes about it that tell me it’s gonna be good !
Looks kind of fun, like it doesn’t take itself too seriously (which is a good idea), I’ll check it out!
As long as you’re primed to expect a lightweight and frequently silly comedy with smatterings of action as opposed to an action movie with funny bits, this is a perfect lazy Sunday watch. Van Damme displays some comedic chops that are as impressive as his high kicks and splits at the age of 60!! And as JCVD demonstrated, the man is so much more natural when speaking his native tongue. But man…his face is a living Cautionary Tale against decades long Substance Abuse.
Re: JCVD’s Cautionary Tale, that’s what so great about French cinema….they call that “a face with character.” XD
I’ll have to check this out. JCVD always shines when he’s doing a more comedic role.
