Anyone got a calculator? Takashi Yamakazi’s ‘Godzilla Minus One’ sequel has an official title: ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’

The follow-up to Toho’s 2023 mega hit Godzilla Minus One now has an official title: Godzilla Minus Zero (stylized Godzilla -0.0). Back in the director’s chair is Takashi Yamazaki (The Fighter Pilot, Godzilla Minus One), who started filming the sequel a few months ago. As with the first film, Yamazaki will also be writing and providing VFX work.

No plot details have been revealed, but Godzilla Minus Zero will take place Japan. Given the “Minus Zero” in the title, fans are speculating that the upcoming movie might possibly be a prequel, rather than a sequel (or maybe even both, a la Godfather 2).

A follow-up to Godzilla Minus One should come as no surprise, given Godzilla Minus One was this incredible success in late 2023 — earning $55M domestically and a worldwide total of just over $115M. The film was made on a paltry $15M budget with a combination of practical effects and CGI (via World of Reel).

The original Godzilla Minus One – which starred Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe and Yuki Yamada – took place in post-war Japan. Just when things were starting to calm down, a new crisis emerged in the form of a giant monster, baptized in the horrific power of the atomic bomb.

We’ll keep up you updated on Godzilla Minus Zero as we learn more! Until then, check out the new logo Teaser Trailer (designed by Yamazaki himself), followed by the Trailer to Godzilla Minus One:
