The guy is a f**king beast! Bren Foster puts life back into martial arts movies in Vertical’s actioner ‘Life After Fighting’

"Life After Fighting" Theatrical Poster

“Life After Fighting” Theatrical Poster

We just watched Life After Fighting (read our review) last night and were incredibly impressed. Not only does Bren Foster (Infini, The Last Ship) write, direct, produce, AND star in the film, but he designed the action choreography as well. The guy is a beast.

In Life After Fighting, the tranquil existence of Alex Faulkner (Foster), a former martial arts world champion, is shattered when the inexplicable vanishing of two young students from his martial arts school culminates in a shocking revelation that strikes close to his heart. As all avenues of hope seem to dwindle, Faulkner’s determination leads to the rescue of the imprisoned girls, revealing an insidious international child-trafficking ring, which ultimately leads to the fight of his life.

Big Boss Part II, The (1976) Review

Director: Chan Chue
Cast: Lo Lieh, Wong Ping, Lee Kwan, Michael Chan Wai Man, Bruce Le (Huang Kin Long), Krung Srivilai, Preeya Rongernaug, Hung Wang, Shan Shan, Chiu Lik
Running Time: 107 min.

By Ian Whittle

It’s weird that The Big Boss Part II is as obscure as it is. You’d think being a semi-official sequel to a Bruce Lee movie, it’d have been all over numerous VHS and DVD re-issues in the manner of the same year’s Fist of Fury Part II. And yes, there was a Big Boss 2 doing the rounds on home video, but that was a retitled Dragon Lee film that was a Fist of Fury knock-off if anything else!

Around the mid-00s, an English language trailer showed up on a DVD collection – which didn’t look very inspiring, with especially lame dubbing and narration. A South African collector claimed to have a print and did indeed upload some of it online, as did a relative of the film’s producer – the latter’s upload is indeed still on Youtube. But seeing the full film seemed an elusive prospect, until a print (possibly owned by Quentin Tarantino) started appearing at special screenings around 2020. And now, about a year after the longer version of the 1971 original made its Blu-ray debut, we can Continue reading

How Martial Arts Can Unleash Entrepreneurial Success

In the world of business, achieving the pinnacle of success often boils down to a handful of key attributes such as discipline, resilience, and strategic thinking. Interestingly, these characteristics can be nurtured not just within the confines of a corporate setting but also through the practice of martial arts. This article discusses the correlation between martial arts and entrepreneurial skill sets, offering insights into how one can significantly benefit the other.

Keeps You More Disciplined and Focused

Martial arts is not simply about learning how to defend oneself; it’s a journey in cultivating discipline and focus. By subjecting oneself to rigorous training and repetitive techniques, an individual internalizes the value of unwavering dedication and concentration. For example, the repetitive nature of perfecting a karate kata or a judo throw parallels the iterative processes of entrepreneurship, such as refining a business model or improving a product.

Teaches You to Learn From Mistakes

The pathway to mastering martial arts is strewn with setbacks. Nevertheless, it is through these obstacles that resilience is built, a quality that is indispensable when navigating the turbulent seas of entrepreneurship. When a boxer misses a punch or a Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner fails to execute a submission, they don’t simply quit; they learn, adapt, and try again, much like an entrepreneur iterating a failing business strategy.

Enhances Your Attention to Detail

In the realm of martial arts, a keen eye for detail can dramatically impact performance, a lesson that can be invaluable in entrepreneurial activities, including branding. Utilizing online tools such as a logo maker to craft a custom design to stand out is a specific way entrepreneurs can apply this principle, ensuring their brand presents as polished and professional. This level of meticulous attention parallels a martial artist’s focus on the nuances of form and technique to achieve mastery.

Teaches You to Keep a Level Head

Remaining calm under pressure is another lesson that martial arts imbues in its practitioners. In the volatile, high-stakes business world, having emotional control can be a differential advantage. Whether it’s a critical negotiation or a make-or-break pitch to investors, maintaining composure can lead to better outcomes, similar to how a composed martial artist is more likely to win a match.

Encourages Productivity

The physical rigors of martial arts serve as an effective outlet for stress, a frequent companion in the entrepreneurial journey. Engaging in martial arts allows for a mental reset, which can have a ripple effect on productivity and overall well-being. For instance, the active movements and the focus on breathwork found in martial arts can be invaluable for entrepreneurs seeking to alleviate the pressures of daily operations.

Keeps You Above Board

In martial arts, achieving flawless execution is the gold standard, an ethos that entrepreneurs can adopt in all aspects of their business, including legal compliance and financial planning. Knowing how to start an LLC, for instance, and ensuring that all regulatory paperwork is meticulously filed, illustrates an entrepreneur’s commitment to detail and procedural accuracy. This attention to the finer aspects of business operations mirrors the level of care a martial artist invests in perfecting each move and technique.

Fosters Strategic Thinking

The strategy is not just for the boardroom; it’s also a crucial element in martial arts. Anticipating an opponent’s next move or swiftly adapting to an unexpected situation is integral to winning. Likewise, entrepreneurs can apply these strategic principles when making business decisions and planning their next move based on market trends and competitor activities. Utilizing effective work management tools can further enhance strategic thinking by streamlining operations and improving team collaboration.

Prioritizes Ethics and Integrity

Martial arts uphold a strong ethical code, ranging from respecting one’s opponent to practicing humility. Incorporating these ethical values into the business world can help entrepreneurs build a brand that is profitable, trusted, and respected. Ethics and integrity are not just buzzwords but are essential for any sustainable business model.

The traits honed in martial arts can become the catalysts for entrepreneurial success. Whether it’s the discipline and focus or the resilience that comes from learning through failure, the synergies are both abundant and compelling. Embracing the foundational principles of martial arts can equip individuals to traverse the intricate landscape of entrepreneurship with skill, ethics, and strategic acumen.

One notable platform is Jackpot City, which has become a popular choice for many players seeking an engaging gaming experience.

Online casinos offer not only classic games like blackjack, roulette and poker but also innovative slot games that captivate and entice. These platforms are user-friendly, ensuring that you can navigate and start playing within minutes. The immersive nature of online casinos, along with technological features, makes them an attractive option for modern gamblers.

The convenience factor has been a significant driver in the rise of online casinos. Players can access their favorite games 24/7 from any location with an internet connection. This eliminates the need to travel to a physical casino, saving time and money. Moreover, online casinos often offer a wider selection of games compared to their land-based counterparts, catering to diverse player preferences.

Security and Fair Play

One of the primary concerns for online casino enthusiasts is security and fair play. Reputable online casinos are licensed and regulated by well-established authorities, which ensures that games are fair and players’ information is secure. Additionally, robust encryption technologies are employed to protect financial transactions and personal data, providing players with peace of mind.

Furthermore, it is crucial to choose an online casino that uses a random number generator (RNG) to ensure the outcomes of games are completely random and not manipulated. Understanding these aspects can enhance your gaming experience and make it more enjoyable and trustworthy.

Bonuses and Promotions

One of the most attractive features of online casinos is the lucrative bonuses and promotions they offer. New players are often greeted with generous welcome bonuses, free spins and deposit matches that can significantly boost your initial bankroll. Ongoing promotions and loyalty programs also keep the experience exciting, offering rewards for regular play.

These incentives are designed not only to attract new players but also to retain existing ones. They add an extra layer of excitement and value to your gaming sessions, making online casinos a rewarding choice. It is always advisable to read the terms and conditions associated with these bonuses to maximize their benefits.

The Future of Online Casinos

The future of online casinos looks promising as technology continues to advance. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are expected to revolutionize the online gambling experience, offering hyper-immersive environments that mimic real-life casinos. Mobile gaming also continues to grow, providing players with access to their favorite games on the go.

Ultimately, online casinos will keep progressing to meet the demands of modern players, incorporating cutting-edge technology and innovative features. Whether you are looking for relaxation, excitement, or the potential for big wins, online casinos have something to offer. Stay ahead of the game by keeping an eye on industry developments and exploring new platforms that align with your gaming preferences.

The closing scenes of The Four 2 saw the team’s internal strife come to a head, leading to Crystal Liu’s Emotionless leaving both the Divine Constabulary and her brooding boyfriend, Deng Chao’s Coldblood, after learning that Collin Chou’s Iron Hands was involved in the massacre of her family 12 years earlier. Four 2, The (2013) Review

"The Four 2" Theatrical Poster

“The Four 2” Theatrical Poster

Director: Gordon Chan
Co-director: Janet Chun
Cast: Crystal Liu Yi Fei, Deng Chao, Anthony Wong Chau Sang, Cheng Taishen, Colin Chou, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Wu Xiubo, Yu Chenghui, Ken Lo
Running Time: 118 min.

By Paul Bramhall

Hot on the coat tails of 2012’s The Four, the following year The Four 2 hit the screens, arriving with the announcement that a third instalment had been filmed back-to-back with the sequel. Considering the first entry in director Gordon Chan’s reimagining of the The Four Great Constables was an underwhelming experience, more than 10 years since their release it may seem a bewildering thought as to how a sequel was green lit so quickly. The answer is very much connected to the early 2010’s era that they were made in, which saw China going through an economic boom, and going to the cinema becoming one of the nation’s favorite past times. Cinemas were built in their hundreds in a very short space of time, and local audiences lapped it up with seeming little regard to if the movies they were going to see were actually good or not. The same explanation can be applied to how a movie like 2013’s Switch came to exist.

The Four brought together a cast of popular Hong Kong and Mainland talent for a tale that many would have been familiar with, even if just in passing, so the fact that it became a box office success wasn’t such a big surprise when considering such factors. A more interesting question is how returning directors Gordon Chan and Janet Chun perceived The Four’s success – did they figure they got everything just right and should approach another instalment in the exact Continue reading
