UK-based artist Sam Green has teased artwork for what is rumored to be for 88 Films’ forthcoming 4K Ultra HD release for Miracles (aka Mr. Canton and Lady Rose), Jackie Chan’s 1989 Golden Harvest martial arts film, which is loosely remade from Frank Capra’s 1961 classic Pocketful of Miracles.

Directed by and starring Jackie Chan, Miracles features an all-star cast that includes Rose Gua Ah Leh (The Wedding Banquet), Anita Mui Yim-fong (Drunken Master 2), Wu Ma (The Blonde Fury), Michael Chow Man Kin (Era of Vampires), Fung Hak On (Shatter), Ricky Hui (Private Eyes), Ray Lui (Death Notice), Mars (Lackey and the Lady Tiger), Richard Ng Yiu-hon (Invincible Dragon), Dick Wei (Final Run), Gloria Yip Wan-Yee (To Be Number One) and Kenny Bee (Eagle Shooting Heroes).

An optimistic Gwok Zan-Waa (Jackie Chan) arrives in Hong Kong, quickly finding himself impoverished. That is, until a serendipitous encounter with a rose seller (Rose Gua Ah Leh) leads to his inadvertent appointment as boss of a local gang. Amidst the reluctant leader’s efforts to reform their fraternity and businesses, is an endeavour to share his new-found fortune with the bestower, all whilst trying to stave off rivals and the authorities.

Features are yet to be announced, but you can expect a lot of the content (and more) from 88 Films’ current Blu-ray release to be carried over, such as:

  • 4K restorations of the Original Hong Kong cut (Mr Canton & Lady Rose – 127 mins) and the International cut (Miracles aka Black Dragon – 107 mins) in original 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio
  • Original Cantonese Mono Soundtrack
  • Alternate Cantonese Mono Soundtrack featuring a unique mix and dfferent music cues
  • Newly-translated English Subtitles and SDH [optional]
  • Classic English Dub for the International cut with optional SDH
  • ‘Teaser’ with clips from the main features of ‘Project A II’, ‘Police Story 2’, followed by behind-the scenes of ‘Miracles’
  • Alternative The Canton Godfather title sequence
  • Jackie Chan: Film Director Featurette with Steve Lawson
  • Hong Kong Trailer

This title will soon be available at The Goodie Emporium, a U.S.-based online store that currently has many Import Shaw Brothers/Golden Harvest/martial arts DVD/Blu-ray movies in-stock – with New titles being added regularly!

We’ll keep you updated on this release as we learn more.

If they’re going to put out 4k HK movies from Sony, I’d rather it be Who Am I? and Kung Fu Hustle.

The Blu-Ray’s all right for me.

Put out “new” movies or fuck off, 88 Films.

    Eureka is better than you.

    • Ska Martes says:

There is literally no interest in any new Hong Kong movies on this website or similar outlets/forums. Not sure if a Table for Six 2 is gonna sell alot of copies.

      • Aerosniff Someglue says:

You’re not interested in anything related to Hong Kong movies of the past?

Don’t read those news. Good riddance.

        • Ska Martes says:

Let me guess – you can’t actually name any HK movies since 1997. You are probably one of those UK dogs on a leash BNO – enjoy your new home where the locals will definitely treat you as an equal

Happy to see, but I also agree that some other films that (yet) to see blu-ray (essentially) such as ‘Who Am I?’ should be remastered and released on Blu or 4K before multiple versions of other already released titles. However, I support and do enjoy the continued interest in one of my favorite film genres. This is a suggestion not a complaint.

  4. Ska Martes says:

Miracles is one of Chan’s best movies (cue people complaining there’s not enough action and too much screwball comedy). BUT i do agree 88 Films bluray from a few years back was excellent/almost perfect and a HDR transfer not supervised by anyone involved in the original production is always gonna be hit and miss. Not enough reasons to upgrade
