Sony Entertainment has reportedly enlisted Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, A Most Violent Year) to star in Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ (Kong: Skull Island) live-action adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid.
In the film, Isaac will take on the role of the iconic video game character Solid Snake, a highly skilled special operations soldier whose speciality is destroying models of the bipedal nuclear weapon-armed mecha known as Metal Gear.
The script is being written by Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) and produced by Avi Arad (Spider-Man: Far from Home) with Peter Kang overseeing for the studio (via Deadline).
We’ll keep you updated on this project as we learn more. For now, we leave you with a clip for our favorite Oscar Isaac film, A Most Violent Year:
It’s actually not the first MGS movie they’ve tried to make. But I guess Kojima figured there was nowhere else for the series to go.
Not enough charisma. I would’ve liked Tadanobu Asano or Lee Byung-hun. I’ll check who that guy is.
Not the worst ever, but not the best choice either…
It must be someone less latin and more better as an actor, Viggo Mortensen could pull it off i think.
I have to disagree with you there… Issacs is oozing with charisma. He sucked in the Star Wars movies, but everything else, he’s one of the finest actors working today.
Vogt-Roberts made a decent film with Kong: Skull Island but I feel this needs to be in the hands of a true master like Fincher or Soderbergh. The Oscar Isaac casting is a bit of distraction.
I’m a fan of Metal Gear Solid, not for its name or the promise of more… I’m a fan, because I can see something to like about it. That means, I don’t like everything under the name “Metal Gear”, because respect isn’t given away, you earn it!
So what I want, is for them to give me a reason why this movie should exist… For this movie to have its own identity and not just recycle the games. From people who believe in what they’re doing, because if they don’t care, why should anyone care about them either?
