On May 12, 2026, 88 Films is releasing the U.S. Blu-ray (Region A) for The Invincible Eight, a 1971 Golden Harvest wuxia film from director Lo Wei (Tattooed Dragon, Seaman No. 7).
Side note: Are you feeling some déjà vu? If so, then you’re not alone, because yes, 88 Films’ competitor, Eureka, recently announced their own UK (Region B) version, slated for March (see details).
Directed by Lo Wei (The Big Boss), The Invincible Eight stars Nora Miao (The Way of the Dragon), Angela Mao (Hapkido), Paul Chang Chung (Police Story), James Tien (Yes, Madam!) and a bit part from Sammo Hung (Double Crossers), who also serves as fight choreographer.
1971’s Invincible Eight was the first movie released by the then-newly-formed Golden Harvest Studios. Founded in 1970 by former Shaw Brothers managers Raymond Chow and Leonard Ho, Golden Harvest was the first company to give the Shaw Brothers solid competition. The studio gained ultimate momentum with The Big Boss, Bruce Lee’s first action movie, released the same year.
A group of eight warriors band together to assassinate General Hsiao (Han Ying Chieh), a ruthless leader who is responsible for murdering their various family members. It won’t be an easy task, as their target is heavily guarded not only by a standard army, but also by a special group of whip-wielding guards.
