J.J. Perry, who made his directorial debut with the 2022 Netflix actioner, Day Shift, is getting ready to release The Killer’s Game, an upcoming action-comedy starring Dave Bautista (Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, Final Score), Sofia Boutella (Atomic Blonde) and Ben Kingsley (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

Based on Jay Bonansinga’s novel of the same name, The Killer’s Game involves a world-weary assassin who’s taken a hit out on himself finds a new reason to live after his girlfriend discovers she’s pregnant. Together, they race across Europe, trying to outrun his would-be killers.

The film also features an all-star cast that includes Scott Adkins (John Wick 4), Daniel Bernhardt (Extraction 2), Terry Crews (The Expendables), Pom Klementieff (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One), Lee Hoon (The Love is Coming), Marko Zaror (Fist of the Condor), WWE star Drew McIntyre, Shaina West (Jade, The Woman King) and Lucy Cork (Black Widow).

Fight choreography is courtesy of Felix Betancourt, who is perhaps best known for his work on Day Shift, Ghosted and The Gray Man.

The Killer’s Game hits theaters on September 13 from Lionsgate and Endurance films. Don’t miss its Final Trailer below:

  1. Andrew Hernandez says:

I like the concept, and it can provide a lot of opportunities for good and creative action scenes.

  2. Ningen says:

Can’t understand what Bautista is saying, ‘cus he’s mumbling.

    • Sofia says:

Definitely looks like one of those movies where the lead is the least interesting part.

This movie has also had very odd marketing, with the deaths of several key characters already spoiled through teasers posted on Lionsgate social media

  3. Cryin’ Freeman says:

Serious lack of Adkins in the trailer which concerns me. Spotted Danny B a few times though. Hope they all get due recognition.

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

Yeah. And Marko Zaror got some good showcase. At the very least, I hope Scott Adkins has a decent fight scene with Batista if he’s only in the movie for a little bit.

      • Cryin' Freeman says:

Aye exactly. Zaror really got to shine in John Wick 4, more than I thought initially so hopefully the case here.

        • Andrew Hernandez says:

While I thought he got to act more than I thought he would, John Wick 4 really limited him and Scott in the action department. Both guys needed a good one-on-one with Keanu like he had in the previous films.

  4. Andrew Hernandez says:

I wish Sofia Boutella got in on the action. She’s done well in the action department with Kingsmen, Hotel Artemis, Star Trek Beyond, and yes, even the critically acclaimed Rebel Moon franchise that fans can’t stop praising. (I’m looking forward to the Snyder Cut. Sue me.)

  5. Sofia says:

I’ve seen two different posters for Shaina West’s character (Lionsgate IG for instance has a different one for her), but only one for everyone else.

Is she supposed to be playing twins?

  6. Andrew Hernandez says:

I caught The Killer’s Game, and it’s genuinely a well done film. Dave Bautista’s character is likable and well spoken. He also uses stealth more than brute force, which was a nice change of pace. He and Sofia Boutella had good chemistry, and it made me wish she got in on the fighting action.

I was worried that Ben Kingsley would be in a sleepwalking role here, but his character was well thought out and he showed enthusiasm. It’s always good when he’s not looking like he’s thinking “I was Gandhi. What the fuck is this shit?”

I was worried when I didn’t see Scott Adkins in the trailer, but it was a great choice to have him and WWE’s Drew McIntyre play drunken brothers from Scotland. I almost wish there was a movie that focused solely on their adventures, but I probably would have died of a heart attack from it. Scott did more fighting unlike in John Wick 4, and even got to do the Boyka Kick!

Marko Zaror also fought more than before, and was a riot as a tango/flamenco loving psychopath. It was great to see his trademark moves again, and the jiujitsu exchanges with him and Bautista in their big fight was very well done.

I hope enough people watch this movie and that JJ Perry keeps getting to direct such creative action projects.

  7. Ska Martes says:

While the action is pretty funny this is not a good movie. Sofia Boutella seems miscast in this especially coming off the Rebel Moon movies. And her and Drax as an onscreen couple just looks weird and goofy but they play it totally straight. If you are a 12 year old this might be your favourite movie of 2024. Ben Kingsleys wife gives life lessons on cum swallowing and anal sex over a birthday. Ali G / useless roadman turns up as a wannabe assassin in training.

I really enjoyed Day Shift…Jamie Fox and Dave Franco were great together. But did not enjoy this one. People will say turn off your brain and enjoy…no thanks i’ll read nonsense on reddit/twitter for that

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

I don’t think 12 year olds would appreciate the nuances throughout the film, and some of them might think it’s not “extreme” enough. George Somner was bad as a wannabe assassin, and we were cheated out of a payoff for him, but his involvement in the film was too small to be much of a problem.

Of course the humor isn’t gonna be for everyone, but after remembering Alex Kingston from ER, and hearing her say such vulgar stuff, I did laugh. The Killer’s Game had a good balance of quirkiness and seriousness to go along with the action, and it made for a fun ride.
