Steven Seagal was just a cook in Under Siege. Daisy Ridley was just a window cleaner in Cleaner. Jean-Claude Van Damme was just a gardener in The Gardener. Now, Jason Statham (The Meg, Redemption, The Expendables) is just a construction worker in MGM’s A Working Man.

Formerly known as Levon’s Trade, this upcoming actioner – written by Sylvester Stallone (its plot is dangerously similar to Rambo: Last Blood) – reunites Statham with The Beekeeper director, David Ayer (End of Watch, Suicide Squad).

Joining Statham is David Harbour (Extraction), Michael Peña (Narcos: Mexico), Jason Flemyng (The Iron Mask) and Arianna Rivas (The Harvest). Daren Nop, who served as fight coordinator for films such as Fast X and The King’s Man, will be handling the film’s hand-to-hand action sequences.

The movie – based on the novel of the same by comic author Chuck Dixon (Batman) – will chart how Levon Cade (Statham) left his “profession” behind him to go ‘straight’ and work in construction. He wants to live a simple life and be a good father to his daughter. But when his boss’s teenage daughter Jenny vanishes, he’s called upon to re-employ the skills that made him a legendary figure in the shadowy world of black ops. His hunt for the missing college student takes him deep into the heart of a sinister criminal conspiracy creating a chain reaction that will threaten his new way of life (via Deadline).

A Working Man is in theaters on Friday. Watch the film’s Final Trailer below:

I’m intrigued! Chuck Dixon’s comic work is great, and his runs on Moon Knight and Birds of Prey were a great combination of action and fun.

I like this trailer. I thought Statham and Ayer were doing The Beekeeper 2, and this could have been re-worked into being that, but I hope they’ll continue a great partnership. Now if a proper rematch could happen with Jason Statham vs Scott Adkins!

looks boring, and even if it wasn’t the trailer already tells the whole story.
but then again, i didn’t like Kill’s trailer either, and that one turned out good.

I watched A Working Man, and it scratched itch for me. The action is cool, but I had a lot of critiques for this movie.

I usually count on Jason Statham films to be either fast paced or a nice slow boil, but this one had too much padding in between action scenes. There should have been only one plot with Statham rescuing his surrogate niece, but then we had subplots of him fighting for parental custody, his coworkers dealing with gangs, the Russian mob, drug deals, and it all kept interrupting the proceedings.

Way too much time was spent on Statham acting as an undercover criminal trying to get to the traffickers, and the only reason why his niece didn’t die with 24 hours is because they’re idiots. The Transporter and The Beekeeper would have handled things more quickly.

A big fight is teased between Statham and Chidi Ajufo, especially since the former is also ex-military, but the fight is over before it starts.

Arianna Rivas as the kidnappee is all over the place in her characteristics as first she comes across as spoiled, ungrateful, and careless, but then we see that she’s gifted and won karate tournaments in the past, and just when we think she’s gonna be resourceful, it backtracks before becoming anti-climatic.

But all in all, I had a good time with this film getting a 3 out of 5.
