I saw Shelter today, and it was satisfying. The movie is a very slow burn that shows just how dire things are for Jason Statham as he lives as a recluse before he has to protect Bodhi Rae Breathnach. Even then, the more major action scenes are saved for later. The movie is also fairly dark as there’s murders one doesn’t expect normally in these films.

Statham’s main opponent is French stuntman Bryan Vignier as a rival agent who proves to be his most worthy adversary in quite some time. (One that’s often lacking in Statham films.) They get two fight scenes and they really go all out in them.

Tom Wu turns up in a supporting role as a club owner who helps Statham, but it’s disappointing that it’s a non action role. He’s one of those skilled stunt people who one wishes was in front of the camera to have a major fight with the main character. (Belly of the Beast doesn’t count)

Laurent Buson who fought Iko Uwais in Metantau is one of the fight choreographers here and his work really shines. The fights to have a bit of closeness to them, but at no point does the camerawork or editing make them incomprehensible. It’s close enough to feel claustrophobic without sacrificing the visuals.

    Another winner for Jason Statham.

If the new Highlander is successful and becomes a series, it would be great if Jason Statham partook in it. He could be MacLeod’s new friend or enemy.

Considering how much Statham has worked with the 87North people, (Including Shelter) they got to make room for him!
