RELEASE DATE: October 29, 2019
On October 29th, 2019, Warner Archive will release a 4K remastered Blu-ray for Jackie Chan’s 1997 film, Mr. Nice Guy (read our reviews), which will contain both the New Line Cinema version and the extended, 97-minute original cut of the film.
Directed by Sammo Hung (Eastern Condors), Mr. Nice Guy also stars Richard Norton (City Hunter), Miki Lee (Haunted School), Gabrielle Fitzpatrick (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie) and even a cameo by Sammo himself.
With Chan in the kitchen, you know there’ll be more pow! than kung pao, and the irrepressible star does not disappoint. Take a look at the in-one-door, out-the-other fight sequence staged at a construction site and you’ll discover what we mean. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, along comes Chan with something new. Then something newer. The breathtaking, lightning-quick fun and excitement just might have you shouting, “Nice kick! Nice spin! Nice move!” He is, after all, Mr. Nice Guy.

Wow, I spent years trying to get my hands on the 97 minute cut of this film. All my stuff is in storage though so I can’t remember if I was successful or not, lol.
I did manage to purchase the longer cut on DVD, but it was a shitty looking print. Still, I liked it better than the chopped up US version.
Hopefully, Rumble in the Bronx is next? And maybe the Japanese Sonny Chiba Street Fighter movies, too, New Line? BTW, this film is best watched with Jackie’s ‘Who Am I?’, as someone wanted to know about movies where he did some Statham-type action shit.
The recent Shout Factory release of THE STREET FIGHTER films includes the uncut Japanese versions of all the films. I think the only thing you don’t get is the Japanese opening credits text in Japanese. Great set!
Holy crap, this isn’t an early April Fool’s prank like that ‘Full Love’ Blu-ray box set, is it? 😀
I visited the set of this with the Jackie Chan Fan Club when it shot on Australia. A great day. They did very little filming, but that gave us a good amount of time to meet Jackie, Richard Norton and Sammo. We even went out for dinner with Jackie and some of his stunt team that night. Mars was there but I never got to meet him.
We had a great Q&A with Jackie afterwards, where he told us his basic plot for his next movie, WHO AM I? He also said he could never do another DRUNKEN MASTER because it would take at least six months to train for it. And this was over twenty years ago now! So don’t go hoping for DM3 any time soon.
Shout-out to anyone else who was there that day at Muswellbrook back in ’97.
Well, an official Drunken Master 3, and not that briliant ‘threequel’ which belongs in a retrospective with that ‘Hardboiled Two’ film.
Great news about this release. I’ll be pre-ordering it immediately. I’ll chime in with others in hope that the fans support this Warner Brothers Archive release, and that we get more uncut versions of the New Line released JC titles. I’d buy them all.
