Cult filmmaker Isaac Florentine (Seized, Acts of Vengeance) – known for consistently delivering the low budget thrillers such as U.S. Seals II, Ninja: Shadow of a Tear, Close Range and Undisputed 2 – has just wrapped Hellfire, an upcoming actioner starring Stephen Lang (Avatar), Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs), Dolph Lundgren (Section 8) and Johnny Yong Bosch (Death Grip).
The film – written by Richard Lowry (who wrote Florentine’s Seized) – is about a drifter (Lang) with a mysterious past who arrives in a small town and finds the residents in the grip of a ruthless crime boss and realizes he has to help them (via Deadline).
Also be on the lookout for Florentine’s soon-to-be-released film, Hounds of War, which stars Frank Grillo, Robert Patrick, Rhona Mitra, Nicky Whelan, Mark Strange and Joey Ansah.
Expect a Trailer for Hellfire soon. Until then, we leave you with the classic Trailer for Florentine and Lundgren’s 1999 collaboration, Bridge of Dragons:
Holy shit, that’s a fun cast! Harvey Keitel and Johnny Yong Bosch in the same movie? 🤯
I always wondered what MPM thought of this one, cause for me it’s the last gasp of the 80s action genre. Plus Florentine knows his action.
By that I mean Bridge Of Dragons, as far as I’m concerned this was the flick John Woo and Dolph Lundgren’s collaboration should’ve been.
I still haven’t seen it ’til this day! lol I haven’t heard the name MPM in ages. lol
I can’t say in good faith that Bridge Of Dragons is up there with Drive and King Of The Kickboxers as best martial arts B.movie, but I can say it’s entertaining and the fight sequences are really good, even if the movie is goofy as fuck. I kinda would put it mid tier Shaw Bros film like House Of Traps and All Men Are Brothers that happens to be as absurd and nutty as Super Infra Man and Heaven and Hell. Isaac Florentine is a favorite director of mine. Though admittedly I was sort of disappointed with his collaperation with Van Damme.
I’m just going to say, for me the Van Damme,Dolph,Seagal and Dudikoff stuff all have this bizarre appeal to them that has aged badly and well. Like, there’s just something about Lundgren muttering monosyllabic lines while meditating in a sewer killing ridiculous mobsters who can’t pull off wise guy antics, or Seagal just pretending to be Italian just basically stumbling into fight sequences while just really driving around harassing various bastards. I don’t know, I still have soft spot for these along with the Bruceploitation epics.
Anyway, I’d love to correspond more (do people still do email and chat anymore?) mainly Neil and Alex, the latter who deserves serious props for editing my awful-awful reviews.
Speaking of MPM, gotta get that one in my DVD collection.
