Hong Kong film icon and comedian Michael Hui (All U Need is Love) is headlining the big screen with co-star Dayo Wong Chi-Wah (Legend of the Wolf) in Anselm Chan’s The Last Dance.
In this upcoming drama – an obvious departure from the comedic roles Hui is known for – a debt-ridden wedding planner inadvertently becomes a successful funeral planner. However, he must convince a traditional Taoist priest of his legitimacy to continue operating in the field.
The film sports an all-star, ensemble cast that includes Michelle Wai (Customs Frontline), Elaine Jin (Mad World), Paul Chun (The Trough), Michael Ning (Port of Call), Rachel Leung (Raging Fire), Vincent Kok (Gorgeous) and Catherine Chau (Project Gutenberg).
Together with his Hui brothers (Ricky, Sam, and Stanley), Michael dominated the Hong Kong entertainment industry in the 70s and 80s in films like 1974’s Games Gamblers Play and 1976’s Private Eyes, 1981’s Security Unlimited and 1984’s Teppanyaki. In his post-peak career, Hui maintained relevance in the industry, often as guest-starring and/or cameo roles, including a part in Wayne Wang’s 1997 Hollywood film, The Chinese Box. Some of his most recent work includes 2021’s All U Need is Love and 2022’s Where the Wind Blows.
Emperor Motion Pictures’ is releasing The Last Dance domestically on November 14, 2024. Watch the film’s New Trailer below:
