On April 29, 2025, Shout! is releasing a 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray for Timecop, a 1994 sci-fi actioner from director Peter Hyams (Enemies Closer, End of Days).

Starring martial arts superstar Jean-Claude Van Damme (Kill ‘Em All, The Bouncer), Timecop takes place in the near future where special officers traveled through time to arrest those who used “time travel” to commit crimes.

Timecop also stars Ron Silver (Silent Rage) and Mia Sara (Ferris Bueller’s Day Off).

Based off the Dark Horse comic book of the same name, Timecop was one of Van Damme’s most successful films, both financially and critically. The film even spawned a short-lived 1997 TV series and the 2003 direct-to-DVD sequel Timecop 2: The Berlin Decision, which starred Jason Scott Lee (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story).

    It’s about time…

Got time for some Van Damme news?

Not really. Never gave a … about his movies, except Hard target and, yeah, Légionnaire. Nowhere to hide was OK, if I remember correctly. The three Ringo Lam are…passable at best, the two Tsui Hark atrocious (more artistic murders than suicidal essais),…

  3. Scott says:

It’s about time … cop. LOL.

  4. Andrew Hernandez says:

There should be a new Timecop. With fight choreography and special effects advancing, a lot more can be done with the concept. TEC in this film should have been for time travel what Men in Black was for aliens, and it would have been cool to see more of that.

I actually liked Timecop 2 more since even though it was a cheaper film, it embraced it’s B movie campiness and had fun action scenes.

    • Cryin' Freeman says:

A reboot was on the cards but has since went away. But yes I totally agree. A revised series would be welcome too.
