
Gil Gerard, an American actor best known for portraying Captain William “Buck” Rogers in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, has died at the age of 82 following a brief battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. His career spanned decades across television and film, including a starring role alongside Ernie Reyes Jr. in the 1986–87 action–martial arts series Sidekicks (aka The Last Electric Knight).

Sad to hear, I enjoyed the Buck Rogers show as a kid, thought Gil & the other leading cast members did a good job with the material despite budgetary limitations. I also appreciated the fact that Mr. Gerard seemed to let himself age like a normal human being, wasn’t so insecure as to need a hair piece, plastic surgery, etc. to try to look younger than he was, being secure with your genuine self seems atypical in Hollywood. Anyway, think I’ll watch an episode of Buck Rogers in remembrance, R.I.P., Mr. Gerard.
