My favorite death scene is when Bruce Lee kills Tony Liu in THE BIG BOSS, particularly in the english dub, U.S. version. When Bruce unleashes those final consecutive punches, you can feel his rage! And when Peter Thomas’ soundtrack kicks in at that final death blow, it’s a cinematic high! And it only makes it better knowing that Tony Liu’s character was such an evil asshole!
Don’t give the bluray to MPM74!!!!
Aww man, MIghty Peking Man that was the scene I was going to say lol. Ahh I have another though.
Sy’s(Dustin Nguyen) death in THE REBEL. THe dude is so cruel that when it comes at the hands and feet of both Vo Thanh Thuy(Ngo Thanh Van) and Le Van Cuong(Johnny Tri Nguyen). Throughout the movie we see just how almost invincible Sy is and finally he meets his end. With some of the most fantastic fight scenes I have seen. Its hard not to get excited with each fight and the final fight does not fail.
No way, you’re kidding. I thought I was the only one who would pick that!
Lol, The Big Boss was my first Bruce Lee film. SO the whole movie is pretty special to me. Especially that fight scene
The Last Hurrah for Chivalry; the part where Green takes the sword in the chest in place of his friend was pretty powerful.
*SPOILERS in my answer*
I’m going to go with a wildcard and say Wu Jing’s death in Fatal Contact. It was a fresh and nice little twist for the movie. Its very emotional and really hits the viewer, whether they like it or not.
The death scene that stands out to me was the final fight in the movie “Ten Tigers of Kwangtung” when the main Villain was flipped upside down and his head kicked off. It was so unexpected that I yelled “Oh Shit” during a film class viewing of it lol. It was pretty badass!!
8 Diagram Pole Fighter…where most of the male family members get wiped out….SO tragic, and moving.
Bruce Lees The way of the Dragon. The final fight scene with Chuck Norris in the coliseum in Rome. 2 modern day gladiators fighting to the death
I’ve seen so many it’s really hard to choose, but today, I’m going to say Donnie Yen and Jacky Wu. Jacky Wu’s character is so mean and arrogant, it’s really good when he’s taken down. I think it made Jacky Wu’s character more interesting to only have one line in the whole movie. I love the whole fight and I love that he looks him right in the face and sticks him with his own knife. The blood spatter before he falls doesn’t hurt either and I’m not usually a fan of flying blood. I really hate CGI flying blood, but I digress. So I will say, Jacky Wu – SPL.
looks like Jacky Wu/Wu Jing should get a copy for being voted on twice for dying
Brandon Lee killing Al Leong in “Rapid Fire”. That scene solidified Brandon as an action hero to me. Also this was the first fight where Al Leong where he would headline a “final battle” in a movie. This made his death more memorable than his 100s of other deaths.
I’m going with the muthafucking Raid!!!! The end fight scene where Iko and his brother are fighting mad dog to the fucking death and the fight scene lasted for like 15 mins, they fucking cut his throat with a florescent tube/bludgeoning him to death, at the end of that I was like, muthafucker godamn went medieval on his bitch ass!!!
The final fight scene at the end of Duel to the Death. God damn, that has me bust out laughing every time I see it. And why does the samurai stab himself in the foot? Always leaves me scratching me head… But it’s freakin’ hilarious.
Once again Bruce Lee does it for me. When he jumped and killed Ohara in Enter the Dragon it sent goosebumps down my arms. I can still see rage on his face and hear the cracking of bones. I don’t think anyone has topped that emotion he projected in this film.
And a quick shout out to the cool beheadings in the original Master of the Flying Guillotine. Since there is this awesome film here paying homage to it.
*spoilers, probably* I’m not sure if most people would count a samurai film as a martial arts film. I’m not totally sure I consider them martial arts films myself. However, I’m gonna pick one of my favorite death scenes from one of Akira Kurosawa’s classics, Sanjuro. I love Tatsuya Nakadai’s death in this film. It’s so striking, unexpected, and, well, gushy. I think in its way, it was also a fairly influential death scene, as you didn’t see that level of blood spray very often before Sanjuro, but you saw a whole lot of it afterwards.
But if samurai don’t quite count, then I’m gonna pick Jet Li’s death at the end of Fearless. I really like Fearless. Maybe it hasn’t earned the status of a modern kung fu classic, but it’s a fine film. Li’s final moments are memorable and actually rather moving, featuring some of the best acting he’s ever put to film.
I would probably have to say SPL, when Sammo falls to his death. I want to avoid spoilers, but I was definitely surprised by the direct aftermath.
It’s not so much that it was an amazing scene, but it touches on the theme of karma in the movie. I must admit that I found it borderline funny, but it definitely stayed with me.
I would have to say that my favorite death is from Riki-oh: The Story of Ricky. Basically, Ricky smashes a guy’s head between his fists. The clip was used by Craig Kilbourne on the Late Late Show on CBS. This is by far the coolest death I have seen in any movie.
One of my favorite villains is Bolo Yeung’s Chong Li from Bloodsport. The scene of him fighting and finishing his opponent off in the most brutal and fatality way is just too classic and funny especially everything that’s on Bolo expression.
