  1. Ben (1) says:

I enjoy 36th Chamber of Shaolin the best because it can be compared to the challenges regular people go through when trying to learn anything.

  2. Shaun (2) says:

My favourite kung fu film is “The Young Master” as I feel it’s the most well-rounded martial arts movie ever made: Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, Hwang In Shik, genuinely funny comedy, a fantastic villain, great stunts and a twenty minute final fight! What more could you want?

  3. Nick (3) says:

I still have a stack of old school kung fu flicks to watch, but so far my favorite is mad Monkey Kung Fu. The fighting, locations and characters are all great. This movie has one of my favorite training sequences I’ve ever seen. The end gets so ridicules that you’re out of breathe. What a good time.

  4. Rosemary Dixon (4) says:

Well, crap. I was going to say 36th Chamber too. It’s my favorite because of the training sequence. Modern movies have left out this important part of the story. It is always more compelling in “becoming’ than “being”.

  5. Emanuel Hawkins (5) says:

I’ve had many old school favorites but one that stands out is Chinese Super Ninjas. Never before had I seen a man fight for his life while his intestines were slowly leaking from his body..and that’s just in the first 10 minutes of the film! A Chang Cheh CLASSIC!!!

  6. Andrew (6) says:

Five Deadly Venom’s is my all time Favorite. I love the Mystery, the ComicBook Characterization and the Fighting is great!! Oddly enough 6th Student was always my favorite.. 🙂

  7. Mazinger Z (7) says:

    Come Drink With Me
Mostly because I was around 5 years old when I first saw this and it blew my little mind, but really, it’s among the best Kung Fu films out there. Plus, Pei Pei Cheng was a real looker back then ;p

  8. Alan T. (8) says:

Snake in the Eagles Shadow, Jackie Chans first big hit. Good fight scenes and training sequences. Action comedy at its finest.

  9. I’ve already used The Big Boss in another contest. And something like One-Armed Swordsman is more of a classic, than “old school.” So, I too, will have to go with Five Element Ninjas. Like my buddy Woody says, it’s “better than sex.”

  10. Kyle Warner (9) says:

I really like Brothers Five. It’s a fun mix of good kung fu, some decent storytelling, and old school absurdity. I don’t see the film brought up often, so perhaps that’s why I’ve developed even more of a liking to it.

  11. Clay Asbell (10) says:

This is such a difficult question as there are way too many great films. My faves are really Bruce Lee movies but that is too easy to say but difficult to choose one. So I would say a Shaw Brothers movie, but which one cause there are so many. I choose the Master or as it was titled 3 Evil Masters on TV when I was a kid. I love the story, classic dialog like “Im gonna chop off your arm so you ready” which was sampled by Wu Tang Clan, and of course the great fight scenes by classic SB greats. It has as so many others do great memories as a kid of watching kung fu theater, so thats my choice.

  12. Eduardo (11) says:

My favorite classic kung fu film would be Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow because beggar So’s teaching method was funny and unique, it also brings back fond memories of when I was a child.

  13. James Lohmann (12) says:

Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow. It was not the first martial arts movie I ever saw, but it is the one that has stayed with me. I love the fight scenes, the comedy is on the nose, and the music is outstanding.

  14. Heores of the East is by far my favorite classic Martial Arts Film. Its a film “couples” should see as well lol. It touches quite well on Japanese Martial Arts and Shaolin. Although it does favor Shaolin more so than the others but despite that it was the first film I saw where so many different forms of Martial Arts were used. Ninjitsu, Samurai, Karate and of course Shaolin. Then add in the fact you got a chance to see many different weapons used. All followed by a fantastic story of understanding one another. I think I will go watch it again right now!!

  15. While I love stuff like Twin Warriors, Drunken Master and of course 36th Chamber and things of that ilk, I have to go with Master of the Flying Guillotine! Crazy music, a tournament with a Pre-Street Fighter Dhalsim type, a one-armed man who may just be kidding (judging by that suspicious bulge!) and the World’s Deadliest Beekeeper Hat! Like Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu-Theater any time you like.

  16. Christopher Titchenal (15) says:

So many to pick from. I will go with Come Drink with Me. The first action movie I saw that had a female lead. Pei-pei Cheng is amazing in it.

  17. Craig (16) says:

I don’t know if I am too late for the contest or not, but I might as well still present one of my top favorite old school kung fu films. It is so very hard for me to pick one and every few months my favorite changes but, I think right now my favorite has to be John Woo’s classic sword play Last Hurrah for Chivalry. It’s got great bad guys and great heros. The choreography was outstanding and my mouth was agape when they were switching sword hands in one fight scene. Parts of the movie even had me laughing from the unexpected comedy. Being an ode to his teacher Chang Cheh, it had many references to Cheh’s legendary films. Overall, a great film that I tend to revisit and enjoy again and again.

  18. Matthew A. (17) says:

Wow, tough one…I have two, Crippled Masters, cant go wrong when two crippled mofos are kicking ass,and then Master of the Flying Guillotine, awesome story with great action scenes, great acting.

  19. Adi (18) says:

I got to say that My Young Auntie is my favorite old school kung fu movie.

It’s got fighting, and it’s a comedy so it’s quite silly. Also, the fact that a lady fights and kicks ass is awesome. And I also like that Lau Kar Leung and Gordon Liu are in the movie.

It’s one of those movies that I like because, along with Come Drink With Me, gives women a chance to show that they can also fight.
