With dozens of credits as a cinematographer and director, Herman Yau (The Untold Story, Ebola Syndrome, Taxi Hunter) is one of the most prolific filmmakers ever to have worked in Hong Kong cinema. Considering that he’s gone all respectable with historical action pictures like The Legend is Born: Ip Man and The Woman Knight of Mirror Lake – not to mention edge-of-your-seat blockbusters like Shock Wave and Shock Wave 2 – it’s easy to forget that Yau got his start in the grimy, nasty world of Category III.

Now, Yau is getting himself into high octane action with Emperor Motion Pictures’ Customs Frontline (aka War Customized), an upcoming thriller starring Jacky Cheung (Bullet in the Head) and Nicholas Tse (Raging Fire), who, for the first time, will serve as action choreographer for a film.

Plot is being kept under wraps, but it obviously revolves around the action-packed Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong.

Additional stars include Karena Lam (Integrity), Francis Ng (Full Alert), Liu Yase (Limbo), Michelle Wai (Caught in Time), Angus Yeung (Raging Fire), Melvin Wong (Above the Law), Ben Yuen (Tracey), Amanda Strang (Final Romance) and Brahim Chab (Vanguard).

Customs Frontline hits theaters domestically on July 5th. Wonder if Well Go USA is going to nab this one?

  1. Andrew Hernandez says:

Looks pretty cool. Nice to see Jacky Cheung in an action role again. If WellGo picks this up, I wonder if they’ll change the title. Customs Frontline doesn’t really have a “action-y” or urgent ring to it.

  2. Kevin says:

Looks like Nicholas is moving up in the movies business. Also action directed Ragging Havocs and going to direct Jackie Chan in New Police Story.

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

Many people don’t realize that Nic Tse has practiced martial arts for many years, and they think that just because he’s not like Jet Li, that he illegitimate. The various training videos out there with him and Phillip Ng and Andy On show that he’s dedicated.
