We’ll soon be seeing Bianca Brigitte Van Damme (Welcome to the Jungle, 6 Bullets), daughter of JCVD, in The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson (aka The Haunting of Nicole Brown Simpson), where she’ll be playing the role of Detective Leigh.

Inspired by true events, The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson follows O.J. Simpson’s ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson in the last days leading up to her tragic death on June 12 1994, as seen from her point of view.

The upcoming film, due for a release later this year, is headlined by Mena Suvari (American Beauty) as Nicole, Taryn Manning (8 Mile), Nick Stahl (Terminator 3) and Gene Freeman (Legion Maxx) as O.J. Simpson.

The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson is directed by Daniel Farrands (The Amityville Murders), who is also behind the recent The Haunting of Sharon Tate (this guy obviously found his niche).

I get the feeling she’s not gonna be the star of this. Or that this will be anything like the excellent American Crime Story mini-series.

    Was P.A.S.S. any good?

    • JJ Bona says:

The American Crime Story series was good, and it was basically what interested me in the subject. But as soon as I dug deeper (books, articles, etc), I realized that the series left a lot out (and it was very one-sided, making O.J. look guilty, as with the news media did and still does today). A lot of people don’t know the facts of the case. Of course, this is typical of any movie/show based on true events.

And you’re probably right, Bianca is not the star. I’m sure it’s more like a supporting role/extended cameo.

      • Andrew Hernandez says:

One of the interesting things about the series is that in multiple takes Cuba Gooding Jr would switch between playing OJ as guilty or innocent just to him ambiguous.

I don’t think the series was entirely one sided as it equally portrayed the prosecution and defense teams along with what drove them. (Especially Rob Kardashian’s friendship with OJ and how he did everything for him before feeling betrayed.)

Plus, the other side of the story is filled with a lot of garbage. (If OJ isn’t guilty, who is? The idea of it being a family member or enemy is stupid.)

I’m sure the series did leave a ton out, but I can’t believe anything F Lee Bailey or Robert Shapiro say.

        • JJ Bona says:

“Lee Bailey or Robert Shapiro say”… same can be said about anything the prosecution presented. Curious, have you read or heard of “Legacy of Deception”? Are you familiar with Deep Throat/Watergate scandal?

          • Andrew Hernandez says:

I’ve only briefly heard about Legacy of Deception. I’ve read that the manuscript was about to be published before the verdict, but was not released until a year later.

            What’s the connection with Watergate?

            • JJ Bona says:

You seem to know your stuff Andrew. 🙂 No real connection to Watergate, but let’s just say the defense team had their own “deep throat” (one they didn’t believe!). As for the whole “If OJ didn’t do it, who did?” Well, there were a a couple of guys that were killed in the same time frame – people within the same circle of Goldman, etc – and don’t forget, there are thousands of crimes that have yet to be unsolved, so the whole “If he didn’t do it, who did?” is really a cop out (no pun intended). I highly recommend the book I mention if you ever get a chance.

Also, other reply to your “If O.J. didn’t do it, who did?” thing:

              Murder of Michael Nigg

Michael Nigg (April 28, 1969 – September 8, 1995) was an aspiring actor who worked as a waiter at a Beverly Hills restaurant. He was shot and killed during an apparent robbery attempt in Hollywood. The Los Angeles Police Department later arrested three suspects but soon released them for lack of evidence. No other suspects have ever been identified, and the killing remains unsolved. The case attracted some media coverage at the time, because Nigg had formerly worked at the Mezzaluna restaurant in Brentwood, where he had been a friend of Ronald Goldman’s.

(mind you, back int he 90s, the Mezzaluna was a place to score cocaine)

            • Anon says:

There’s also the unsolved murder of Brett Cantor, an American record label executive, concert promoter, and nightclub owner of the Dragonfly. Ron Goldman worked for Cantor at the Dragonfly and Nicole Brown Simpson was a regular there with her friends. He was murdered a year before them in an identical fashion, stabbed repeatedly in the upper body and nearly decapitated.

              https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brett_Cantor

              • JJ Bona says:

Anon, yeah, I knew about this guy as well. I believe the other guy (Nigg) was killed while the OJ murder trial was going on (so OJ couldn’t have killed him!). And didn’t Ron Goldman’s sister date Nigg??? Yet, the cops had tunnel vision with OJ. Let’s not forget the fact that Ron had defensive wounds (no Bruises on OJ). Nicole had flesh under her finger nails, signs of her scratching her way out, yet OJ had no scratches.

                • Anon says:

Yup, good points. If those murders are still unsolved, then I don’t think it’s that big of deal that the Bundy murders are still unsolved as well. Don’t see how OJ could’ve gotten out of that situation so clean when Ron and Nicole didn’t go down without a fight.

Do you know what this movie is going to exactly imply? That OJ did it or it was someone else?

                  • JJ Bona says:

Right. And all this “OJ was jealous, a stalker and full of rage” was BS. There are several letters written from Nicole to OJ saying how she wanted him back. In fact, Paula Barbieri (OJ’s supermodel girlfriend at the time of the murders) got annoyed every time she would call OJ non-stop.

As for the The Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, not sure what side it’s going to lean on. Would be cool if they put a Rashomon-style spin to it (show all possibilities, let the audience decide). I do know that the other upcoming film, Nicole & O.J. favors OJ’s innocence (the character of “Brett Cantor” is in it).

                    • Andrew Hernandez says:

It’s Bullshit? She was in an extremely abusive relationship with OJ and like most abusive relationships, he made her feel like she couldn’t live without him.

Let’s not forget that if he was innocent, why after being “wrongly accused” and beating incredible odds would he write a book about how he would hypothetically kill his wife after breaking his vow of finding the real killers?

People don’t talk about the flesh under Nicole’s fingernails, so I don’t know why that wouldn’t be followed up on. It’s not a cop out to question who’s guilty because of Michael Nigg and Brett Cantor. We’re supposed to believe the same person who killed those two killed Nicole and Ron?

  2. JJ Bona says:

I had to reply on here, because the thread was becoming visually too narrow:

“She was in an extremely abusive relationship with OJ and like most abusive relationships, he made her feel like she couldn’t live without him.”

Following the January 1, 1989 incident of domestic abuse, O.J. was so distraught and upset by the fact that he had physically harmed Nicole that, in addition to almost immediately starting therapy, O.J. had his attorney Skip Taft create a legally binding document stating if he ever again touches Nicole Brown Simpson in anger, strikes her, does anything of the sort, their prenuptial agreement is null and void. O.J. Simpson signed this legally binding document. Nicole had not requested this, O.J did it not only to say he was sorry, but to say he was responsible. In many ways O.J. created a legally binding system of checks and balances on himself.

The terms of the prenuptial agreement that O.J. and Nicole signed in 1985 were essentially that any wealth, possessions and property each person had at the time of the marriage was untouchable in the event of a divorce. Only wealth, possessions and property attained during the marriage would be divided in the event of a divorce. The prenuptial agreement superseded the divorce laws of the State of California states that all property that was acquired during the marriage will be divided equally (50-50) by the court if the parties are not able to come to an agreement. For the purpose of division of property on dissolution of marriage or legal separation of the parties, property acquired by the parties during marriage in joint form, including property held in tenancy in common, joint tenancy, or tenancy by the entirety, or as community property, is presumed to be community property. Without a prenuptial agreement,California law would have entitled Nicole to half of O.J.’s finances and property.

The media doesn’t report the above. All the media does is play a 911 call over and over again. Mind you, abuse – whether physical or mental – is the worse thing one can do to another (“one time is too much!”).

OJ didn’t write the book. Pablo Fenjves wrote it. And when I say “the book”, I’m talking about a certain chapter (the murder chapter). But I guess we can conclude that OJ might of well have wrote it since he agreed to put his name on it.

No, we’re not supposed to believe the same person who killed those two killed Nicole and Ron. But there should have been other investigations other than OJ. They stopped there. And to the media, the “OJ” thing made a better story.

Andrew: You have some strong points, and I’d like to think mine are at least 1/2 as strong.

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

Thank you for your input. I don’t claim to know everything, and it’s important for everybody to use critical thinking while not accepting what everyone else says.

I don’t “want” a particular person to be guilty just because I don’t like them or how they’re portrayed, but while Marsha Clark is not a saint, I thought she was crusading for anyone who’s been in an abusive relationship, and while there’s a chance she could be incorrect about OJ, her words convinced me.

I’ve also heard stories that the real murderer was a family member, friend, or someone who was pissed at OJ, so those theories muddle up other truths out there.

I would be happy if the truth came out even if I was wrong about my thoughts.

      • JJ Bona says:

Yeah, there was the theory about OJ’s son (Jason), but who knows about that one. You know, when it comes down to it, none of us were there. Not the cops. Not Marcia. Not Johnny, and in my researched opinion, not even OJ. Too bad they didn’t have surveillance cameras back then like they do today. And sadly, the two people who knew what really happened that night are dead.

That’s one of the things that make this saga so interesting: All the different scenarios and possibilities, but yet it’s still a mystery that may never see the light of day.

On a side note: I was in the area, so I visited the site a couple of years ago, and man, it was… strange. I feel like there should have been witnesses. A very busy street. It was actually hard to cross it (we parked at the opposite end). Even when OJ used to quietly visit her, people would take notice almost every time.

  3. Im deutschen Kino würden solche Schauspielerinnen schnell akzeptiert werden…
