Writer/director Min Kyu Dong (Her Story) – who is perhaps best-known for co-directing 1999’s Memento Mori – is back with The Old Woman with the Knife, a revenge-thriller based on the novel of the same name by Gu Byeong-mo.
The upcoming film stars Lee Hye-young (No Blood, No Tears), Shin Si-ah (The Witch: Part 2. The Other One), Kim Sung-cheol (The Battle of Jangsari), Kim Moo-yeol (War of the Arrows) and Yeon Woo-jin (Special Delivery).
Hornclaw is a legendary assassin in her sixties who specialises in eliminating the scum of the earth. Her mundane but bloody life takes an unexpected turn when she meets Bullfight, a promising young killer who wants to work by her side. But an incident from their past casts a dark shadow on their collaboration, even when Bullfight reveals that he remembers her as the first person to ever show him kindness. Hornclaw fails to recognize the young man and his true intentions, and their unresolved misunderstanding leads to an escalation of confrontations and a final face-off with weapons brandished for vengeance and survival.
The Old Woman with the Knife will be released in Theaters by Well Go USA on May 16th. Until then, don’t miss the film’s Trailer:
Don’t know about the action scenes, but the poster is beautiful AND original for…an action film.
And the main character, the pitch, who knows? Presented in Berlin could be a good sign.
It’s really cool to see Lee Hye-young in an action role again. James Cameron once said that he wanted the ill-fated Terminator: Dark Fate to show that older women can still kick ass like Liam Neeson and The Expendables vets, but that sure didn’t work out. Maybe this movie will show him how it’s done. (If he hasn’t seen Cheng Pei-Pei or Yuen Qiu in action)
