Dimitri Logothetis, director of 2018’s Kickboxer: Retaliation, as well as co-director for 2016’s Kickboxer: Vengeance, will soon begin shooting Kickboxer: Armageddon, the upcoming third entry of the rebooted Kickboxer franchise.
Martial arts star Alain Moussi (Kill Order, Street Fighter: Resurrection) will reprise his role as Kurt Sloane from Kickboxer: Vengeance and Kickboxer: Retaliation.
In Kickboxer: Armageddon, Moussi is being joined by fellow martial arts star, Scott Adkins (John Wick 4, Ip Man 4, Triple Threat). Adkins will play Cesare, a martial arts master who rules over a sadistic cult, the descendants of the REG (The Royal Elite Guard) of Burma. Cesare’s teaching philosophy involves learning through pain (via THR).
In a 2018 interview with TMS, Logothetis had this to say: “If you like Retaliation, Armageddon will blow your mind. The kind of fight sequences that I have for this are going to take us to a totally different level. I have a oner planned that’s going to top the oner in Retaliation. It’s going to take us to a completely different level and we’re just excited and we’re just looking forward to having a lot of fun doing that.”
Logothetis added that he’d be bringing back Mike Tyson (Ip Man 3), soccer star Ronaldinho and Christopher Lambert (The Hunted). Other possible appearances include MMA stars George St. Pierre (who had a role in Kickboxer: Vengeance), Uriah Faber, Cody Garbrandt, rapper Snoop Dog – not to mention, a second soccer star, Neymar. And obviously, Alain Moussi, will be returning as Kurt Sloane. The director doesn’t reveal if series regulars Jean-Claude Van Damme or Sara Malakul Lane will be returning.
Of course, much has changed since 2018, so take some of the above casting info with a grain of salt. Kickboxer: Armageddon starts filming in April. Stay tuned for updates!
Is there a reason why Vam Damme isn’t mentioned as a returning cast member?
In the first, he was dubbed. In the second, blind. In the third… puff! Gone!
This time, they need to bring in good fight choreographers, and let them take over the action scenes. John Salvitti, Larnel Stoval, JJ Perry, or Tim Man would do wonders for the franchise.
That would be a blessing for sure. Like I mentioned in my review for ‘Retaliation’, this series has the talent in front of the camera, it just seems to be lacking a decent choreographer to really bring the magic together. In 2018 we need more than slow motion and money shots, I like to see some actual exchanges taking place.
Appreciate the shout. I’ll be working again soon to live up to such expectations as I’m frequently mentioned in these forums and feel I’ve warned my way!! So thanks mate.
I am very surprised to read that you can find abetter choreography to do the kickboxing scenes, then Jean Claude Van damme.
Jean Claude Van damme is a legend and he has entertained people such as I for many years.
No one will ever be more better at kickboxing moves, then Jean Claude Van damme.
Have you seen the work of the above choreographers? Van Damme would work well with them. (And has)
The pandemic prevented other films from getting made. It’s sad that this franchise seems to survive anything.
Indeed, I’ll take the Kickboxer sequels (2 and 4 are guilty pleasures) over these flicks.
Alain Moussi – the Dale ‘Apollo’ Cook of this generation.
At least Dale got a decent fight scene with Yu Rong Guang in Deadend of Besiegers. Alain hasn’t had any decent one-on-ones.
I’m laughing at the plot synopsis from MAAC; Kurt’s getting revenge for his murdered wife and child against Durand’s evil twin brother.
Bonus points if they cast Sasha Mitchell as the evil twin. I’ll grant you Mike Tyson and Van Damme as a blind Kung Fu mentor recalls old school Kung Fu and the fight scenes were alright, and Lambert was fun but the main problem it was 1 hr and 52 min. The original which dubbed over Van Damme dubbed over was shorter, but somehow so utterly banal, boring and workmanlike.
I’ll say it again, give us a Kickboxer 5 pack on Blu ray and scrap these nonfactor remake nonsense.
Not sure why they’re not calling Sasha Mitchell up. He’d be another great “bridge” to the original trilogy.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Scott Adkins has joined the cast as an evil cult leader named Cesare. I hope this means that the plot synopsis from MAAC isn’t true, and that Scott brought Tim Man or Andy Long with him.
I am excited for Scott Adkins in this
I’m disappointed that Sasha Mitchell has not been part of this reboot.
He was decent in the Kickboxer sequels.
