With The Expendables 3 currently exploding in theaters, we decided to get going on updates regarding talent (actors, directors, writers, etc.) that have reportedly been approached or have stated interest in being a part of The Expendables 4 or any future installment of the popular action franchise:

Updates: Jean-Claude Van Damme chatted with Expendables Premiere about The Expendables 4. Van Damme openly states that he’s interested, but that it’s ultimately up to Sylvester Stallone if it happens.

Here’s his exact words: “Dear Trevor and the Expendables Premiere fans, I had a great time shooting The Expendables 2 with Mr. Stallone and other big action stars. Mr. Stallone is an inventive man. He may even create a stronger character than Claude Vilain, the twin brother of Jean Vilain. Some fans ask me if the next Vilain – if there’s next– is going to be a good or a bad guy. I would leave it to Mr. Stallone to decide, as I trust his way of imagination. Thank you. – JCVD”

Expendables Premiere notes (via sources from slyitalian.com) that Steven Seagal is close to signing on as the main antagonist. According to the article, Sylvester Stallone is trying to convinced producer Avi Lerner to let bygones be bygones (apparently, Seagal and Lerner had a business disagreement and they haven’t been in good terms ever since; hence, Seagal’s lack of participitation The Expendables 2 or 3). In Addition, Stallone and Lerner will try to convince Jackie Chan to participate in a minor role, hoping that the Chinese actor will put aside his big ego. This is all definitely rumor material, but you never know!

In a recent interview with Shortlist.com (via Expendables Premiere), Pierce Brosnan said: “The offer has come in for the next Expendables. I just worked over in Bulgaria with Avi Lerner who makes them. He said ‘Would you like to be in The Expendables? I’d love to have you’, and I said ‘Why not?’. So we’ll see.” The former James Bond actor added: ”I have no idea which one it would be, I just said ‘Yes’. It could be Expendables 7!”

According to a Collider interview with Stallone, both Clint Eastwood and Jack Nicholson were both considered: “Well, you know Clint is so involved with what he’s doing, so that’s kind of a pipe dream. I was going to go up to Jack Nicholson and we just got there a little too late cause actually he had said he might be interested in it, so there are still interesting avenues out there. I want to get, if possible, the most unique actors from the past and just put ‘em on there once and for all, if we can. It just seems like an interesting quest to do that, because I don’t know if it’s ever going to happen again; we’re certainly not getting any younger. So we’re very lucky and we’re going to keep going, and it doesn’t automatically mean you have to be an action guy.”

Expendables Premiere reports (via Bulgaria’s Blitz.bg) that Hulk Hogan has joined The Expendables 4. According to the article, Hogan is expected to visit Bulgaria in the autumn to start filming. Considering The Expendables 3 hasn’t even been released yet, we doubt that this news is official. However, it’s not exactly out of the question; after all, Hogan and Sylvester Stallone have remained close friends since 1982, where the two appeared alongside each other in Rocky III. Well, only time will tell…

Thanks to manlymovie.net, we have this info about original Die Hard/Predator director John McTiernan: Empire asked him if he’d be willing to direct another Die Hard movie and/or an Expendables movie. His answer? Yes! “Though in theory he’d be up for doing another Die Hard movie, or an Expendables movie, he hasn’t got time for another dud: DEA versus drug lords actioner Red Squad, which is being reported as his comeback movie, has stalled because he views the current draft as offensive.

During a recent Reddit AMA, here’s what Dwayne Johnson had to say about appearing in an Expendables movie: “I don’t want to be on their team and be buddies with them… F*ck that noise. I want to hunt every single one of them down and tell them to ‘send your soul to heaven cause your ass is mine.” After hearing what Johnson said, Sylvester Stallone had this to say: “Bring It On.”

According to Expendables Premiere (roughly translated), Sly expressed interest in casting both Christopher Lambert (Highlander) and Jean Reno (Leon: The Professional) for Expendables 4: “I would like Christopher Lambert in Expendables 4 as a good guy. Actually, I thought about it for 3, but there was no more space. Why not Jean Reno to play the villain?”

During a press conference for Expendables 3, a reporter asked Stallone if he planned on continuing to add Asian actors to the cast in future Expendables sequels. Stallone reply: “YES!” He also added that he wanted Jackie Chan to be a part of the third film’s cast, but unfortunately, Chan’s schedule was booked, but he will try again for Part 4.” The next morning, Sly’s words got back to Jackie: “I said, ‘Okay.’ Because they already asked me to be in 2 and 3, but I refused. Well, I didn’t refuse, but I said, ‘Sly, can’t we just do you and me? Not just a bunch of people and me only coming out for five minutes.’ Because then the audience is, ‘Oh!’ And then I’m gone.” – Thanks to Expendables Premiere

BREAKING NEWS: In a recent video posted by Expendables Premiere, Ron Perlman (Sons of Anarchy, Hellboy) had this to say: “I’m hoping Stallone taps me on the shoulder one day and says: Okay Ron, you’re 65, why don’t you be in one of these?”

  1. Nick EML says:

Interesting news about Segal and Chan. Segal played, I think, a good villain in the first Machete, so let’s see that happen. Chan I think needs a bigger part, not a minor role. Jet Li’s part seems to be shrinking as these movies go on. His story in the first one really was piss poor, and in 2, he was there for the opening, and that’s it. Make Li and Chan a super duo, or Chan is part of another team, or something.

  2. Tien Kwon says:

It has nothing to do with ego. Stallone’s script is stereotyping Asians if he didn’t know. I’m happy that Jackie has smart people around him. If a role was offered to someone like Bruce Lee. He would never accept it, especially if it’s demeaning to the Chinese and Asian community.

  3. Chad Harry says:

personally is Seagal even in shape to make a movie with The Expendables crew? I mean I like his early films but as he got bigger his films got lousy. as for Chan… He needs a big role not a minor one…. I really hope Li gets more screen time.. He deserves it. I like the Expendables films but honestly Li’s scenes in the first one hardly make any sense. I’d rather Li and Chan make an super film with other action stars like Donnie Yen and so on.

  4. dale wylie says:

luv seagal hes my absolute fav action star and would luv 2 c him in it if van damme does return i want him 2 b a goodie this time around as for chan dont hav a preference aint seen many of his films but know hes popular and sure hed be good honestly dont care whos in it but steven seagal is what i definetly wanna c and im surprised he hasnt appeared yet and i think out of everyone hes been the most anticipated i would quite like 2 c vin diesel and john travolta but we’ll c

  5. Ningen says:

That’d be terrible. He’s not an action star. Did Thunder in Paradise not teach anyone this?

  6. American Ninja Man says:

Thunder In Paradise was strictly for slow wit wankers who felt Baywatch was just a little complicated to follow coherently. Hulk Hogan sucks…bring in Dudikoff, Kosugi or (Especially) Jackie Chan already!

  7. pingon305 says:

well they are right where they belong. On straight to video because I have a feeling Ex3 will bomb after being leaked and being pussified to pg-13.

  8. OpiumkungfuAsshole says:

I’ve just about had it with the Expendables movie. If you’re not going to go all the way with it and embrace the Hard ‘R’ rating, what is the point? Who is in charge of Hollywood seriously? How do I take over? Let me run this bitch for goodness sake, motherfucker!!!!

  9. DougWonnacott says:

I think if you’re at the point where you are asking Ron Perlman, you’ve run out of people. Who’s next, Chad McQueen?

I saw Hulk Hogan mentioned. If they’re going to do that, they should also ask Roddy Piper and have them on opposing sides.

Despite being a fan of most of the old action guys in the film, I really didn’t like The Expendables. Every fight was shot using the dreaded ‘shaky cam’ (lack of) technique. When you have one of the best martial artists ever to appear in films (Jet Li), one of the best martial artists from outside of Asia (Gary Daniels) and Jason Statham (who’s pretty good too), I want to see them fight. I don’t want to not see what’s going on, feel nauseous, then only know who won be seeing who’s still standing up when the camera stops rapidly moving. If you can’t see the action, it’s not really an action film.

  10. HighlandsHQ says:

Doug, what’s that comment about Perlman? Absolutely have nothing against him taking a role in this franchise. On Hogan, say what you will, but Perlman is worth it.

I do agree about the shaky cam technique. I wanna see the damn fight.

  11. Andymovieman says:

Ron Perlman, Dwayne Johnson, Steven Seagal, Jackie Chan definitely. They should also get Kevin Costner, Don Johnson, etc.

  12. Andymovieman says:

Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Michael Bowen, Andy Garcia, Kurt Russell, Mickey Rourke returning as tool, Bruce Willis returning as Church, Jean Claude Van Damme as Claude Vilain, Bruce Campbell, Bryan Cranston, James spader, Jeff bridges, Tommy Lee Jones, Charlie sheen, Tim Robbins, Ed Harris, John Malkovich, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Donald Sutherland, Dustin Hoffman, Clint Eastwood, Michael Madsen, Tom Sizemore, etc. These guys are all good names.

  13. Andymovieman says:

Ron Perlman is clay morrow and Hellboy end of story. He’s perfect for the expendables movies either as a hero or villain cause he’s good at both. Sly, get him for Expendables 4. You got Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford for the third one get Ron Perlman for this one and hulk hogan, Dwayne Johnson, Jackie chan, Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Steven Seagal, etc.

  14. Andymovieman says:

    Christopher Lambert is good too.

  15. Andymovieman says:

Harrison Ford should be the traitor who betrays them and has them killed. He kills jet Li, Randy couture, Kellan Lutz and Victor Ortiz. Arnold ends up grieving for jet Li along with Dolph Lundgren, sly and the rest of the team. Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke and Jean Claude Van Damme return in this one. Drummer later gets killed for his betrayal by Arnold, Sly and Bruce similar to that episode on the sopranos season 2 funhouse. Kim Coates, Tommy Flanagan and Mark Boone from sons of anarchy would be perfect for villains too along with Ron Perlman, Hulk hogan, Steven Seagal, Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, kurt Russell maybe if he’s up for it, ray Liotta, Don Johnson, Andy Garcia, Alec Baldwin, Michael Keaton, Christopher lambert , etc.

  16. Andymovieman says:

It needs to be done right r rated and 80s and 90s badasses no young blood.

  17. Andymovieman says:

Arnold Vosloo would be good to add as a villain as well as nick chinlund, Tommy Flanagan, howie long, Kim Coates, Mark Boone jr., John c. Mcginley, etc.

  18. Andymovieman says:

It needs to be a little like Reservoir Dogs and mission impossible 1 and 2, etc.

  19. Andymovieman says:

I would love to see Ron Perlman, Stephen Lang, Michael Biehn, Bruce Campbell, Kurt Russell, Liam Neeson, Gary Oldman, christopher meloni, and henry Rollins for expendables 4.

  20. Andymovieman says:

Dave Bautista, Dwayne Johnson, Hulk hogan, Martin Kove, Armand assante, james Caan, Tommy Lee Jones, kurt Russell, Steven Seagal, Ron Perlman, stephen lang, michael Biehn, Brian Bosworth, howie long, henry Rollins, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, Mark Boone jr., Robert Patrick, Ray Liotta, John Travolta, Nicolas Cage, Ed Harris, John Malkovich, Willem Dafoe, Michael Keaton, etc.0

  21. Paul Bramhall says:

“I’m hoping Stallone taps me on the shoulder one day and says: Okay Ron, you’re 65, why don’t you be in one of these?”

I’m hoping one day someone taps Stallone on the shoulder and says: Stop making Expendables movies, they suck.

    • Andymovieman says:

I hope someone taps Ron Perlman on the shoulder and says you are wasting your time talking about donald trump and you should focus on your film career and not politics. Before the election, and after expendables 3, I liked the idea of Ron Perlman of wanting to appear in this franchise, but now I’m not so sure due to problems with the movie from Stallone and Avi Lerner and Perlman joining the anti trump band wagon with schmucks like Robert De Niro and Alec Baldwin and the rest of the hollywood buffoons. So fuck Perlman and the horse he rode in on.

  22. Andymovieman says:

I would like to see Ron Perlman in an expendables movie, fast and furious 9, a James Bond movie, die hard 6, and a terminator movie rather than see him open his mouth about how much he hates trump like those two washed up has-been schmucks Alec Baldwin and Robert De Niro who would have also been great in expendables 4. I would definitely like to see Stallone tap Ron Perlman on the shoulder and say “I’ve seen you in sons of anarchy and hellboy as well as working with my friends wesley snipes, Dolph Lundgren and jason Statham in movies like blade 2, skin trade, and in the name of the king, and you’re perfect for expendables 4, Ron and I’ve always wanted to work with you.” and I’d rather see Perlman in expendables 4 than deciding to run for president in 2020. Perlman is getting too political lately. Pretty soon he’ll be career failure if he keeps this up. Personally, I’d like to see Perlman as a villain for Stallone or Schwarzenegger to fight.

  23. Andymovieman says:

Even though Rutger Hauer is dead, there are other actors like him who would love to appear in the franchise like Hellboy himself Ron Perlman even though he’s a political idiot now, Peter Weller, Michael Ironside, kurtwood Smith, Michael Douglas, Richard Dreyfuss, James Woods, John Malkovich, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta, Michael Keaton, Clancy Brown, Willem Dafoe, Michael Madsen, etc.
