George Miller’s follow-up to the action packed, post-apocalyptic franchise is now in high gear with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (aka Furiosa), a direct prequel/spinoff to 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, that hits theaters in 2024.

The film is headlined by Anya Taylor-Joy (Split), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tom Burke (Mank).

As the world fell, young Furiosa (Taylor-Joy) is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, in theaters only nationwide on May 24, 2024 and internationally beginning on May 22, 2024. Don’t miss the New Trailer below:

I’m not a huge fan of this franchise anyway, never really have been, all the way back to Mad Max, but for me Chris Hemsworth looks too much like his character from Thor, distractingly so, they should’ve given him a different look in this movie, in my opinion.

They did. He’s wearing prosthetics and looks less heroic here. I’m not getting Thor vibes at all.

Oddly enough, I only liked the first Mad Max in the trilogy. I felt like Road Warrior was missing a certain something. Fury Road on the other hand felt like what George Miller wanted Road Warrior to be, but he didn’t have the budget to make it so back then.

I’m hope Anya Taylor-Joy does well in the actions scenes.

I caught Furiosa on opening weekend, and I liked it very much.

I won’t say it’s as good as Fury Road, but I don’t think it was trying to be, and I appreciated that it was simply trying to be good in its own right. Anya Taylor Joy was very good and showed a lot of dedication to her title role. Despite everyone else towering over her, she packs a wallop knew how to use her physical limitations to her advantage.

Chris Hemsworth of course looked like he was having a blast as Dementus. I looked up where he got his character’s voice which almost sounded like Robert Downey Jr in Natural Born Killers, and amusingly, he stated that his character voice was a combination of his grandfather and seagulls.

The action is very well done, and I was glad that Richard Norton was brought back to choreograph it. It’s unfortunate that despite grossing 30 million dollars on opening weekend, the press is treating that like a “failure” and bringing more attention to how it’s the lowest grossing Memorial Day weekend.

Of course, it doesn’t help that it went to 2nd place in the second weeekend. I guess it’s an inflation thing, but I remember when a 20 million dollar opening was considered a good thing.
