Get ready for One-Percent Warrior, the latest from martial arts star, Tak Sakaguchi (Battlefield Baseball, Re:Born). For the film, Sakaguchi re-teams with filmmaker Yudai Yamaguchi, who previously worked with Tak as writer on Versus, and as director on Yakuza Weapon. These two, packaged with choreographer Kensuke Sonomura (Hyrda), earns One Percenter a spot on your must-see list.

Based on the anime and manga of the same name, Andrew Lau’s 2005 adaptation, Initial D, is about an ace drifter named Takumi (Jay Chou) who delivers food for his dad Bunta (Anthony Wong) in the same car he uses to race rival street-racers. Takumi prefers to be anonymous, but when he gets challenged by some cheap competitors, he’s forced to ask his dad to pimp his ride. In the mean-time, he has to deal with an awkward relationship with a more out-going (a little too out-going, actually) girlfriend named Natsuki (Anne Suzuki). | Read our review.

4/26/24 | First Option

First Option is a 1996 Hong Kong actioner that revolves around the Hong Kong Police Department’s Special Duties Unit. When a raid by customs officials goes drastically wrong, the SDU are called in to deal with the ruthless mercenaries responsible, but before long the operation is derailed by a series of inter-departmental rivalries that could cause more innocent lives to be lost.

Directed by Gordon Chan (God of War), First Option stars Michael Wong Man Tak (Triple Threat), Gigi Leung Wing Kei (The Monkey King) and Damian Lau Chung Yun (Zu: Warriors from Magic Mountain).
