Director Wong Jing (Mercenaries from Hong Kong) and co-director Woody Hui (who served as “executive director” on Wong’s Chasing the Dragon II: Wild Wild Bunch) are back for Money Empire, also known as Once Upon A Time in Hong Kong (not to be confused with Felix Chong’s currently-filming Once Upon A Time in Hong Kong with Andy Lau and Tony Leung Chiu Wai).
AFS calls the title change a “classic Wong Jing move” and we couldn’t agree more. Wong’s version of the film stars Louis Koo (SPL II: A Time for Consequences), Tony Leung Ka Fai (Cold War II) and Francis Ng (Enter the Warrior’s Gate).
With the famous “Once Upon a Time” banner, maybe Once Upon A Time in Hong Kong will stand tall with other classics like Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West/America, Tsui Hark’s Once Upon a Time in China, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and to a lesser extent, Robert Rodriguez’ Once Upon a Time in Mexico – or not?
