The Great Killing DVD (Animeigo)
RELEASE DATE: July 3, 2012 Animeigo presents the DVD for The Great Killing (aka The Great Duel). This 1964 samurai classic is about a group of revolutionaries who plan to ambush and assassinate a chancelor in an attempt to keep a corrupt, power-hungry minister from taking control of the Shogunate. Yes, it sounds very similar to The 13 Assassins (also directed by Eiichi Kudo’s), which isn’t a bad thing.
Lone Wolf McQuade Blu-ray (MGM)
RELEASE DATE: July 17, 2012 MGM presents the Blu-ray for 1983’s Lone Wolf McQuade, directed by The Arena’s Steve Carver. Think an edgier Walker, Texas Ranger with a clash of Spaghetti western (its memorable soundtrack was done by Italian composer Francesco De Masi). Also starring David Carradine’s gargoyle sweater and Barbara Carrera. Check out the trailer.

RELEASE DATE: July 10, 2012 20th Century Fox presents the Blu-ray for Mercenary for Justice, directed by Don E. FauntLeRoy, who also teamed up with Steven Seagal in Today You Die and Urban Justice. Seagal plays John Seeger, a mercenary who gets involved in a mission that threatens the lives of his kin. Check out the trailer.
The Hidden Blade Blu-ray (Palisades Tartan)
RELEASE DATE: June 19, 2012 Palisades Tartan presents Yoji Yamada’s The Hidden Blade on Blu-ray. Like Yamada’s last film, The Twilight Samurai, it’s based on a short story by Shuhei Fujisawa. Starring Masatoshi Nagase, Takako Matsu and Yukiyoshi Ozawa. It is currently available on DVD. Check out the trailer.

RELEASE DATE: August 14, 2012 First time on Blu-ray! Warner presents 2003’s Cradle 2 the Grave (aka Black Diamond), starring Jet Li, DMX and Mark Dacascos. Directed by Romeo Must Die’s Andrzej Bartkowiak, Cradle 2 the Grave has Jet Li and DMX teaming up to rescue a jewel thief’s daughter. Check out the trailer.

RELEASE DATE: August 14, 2012 First time on Blu-ray! Warner presents 2000′s Romeo Must Die, starring Jet Li, Aaliyah, Delroy Lindo and Russell Wong. Directed by Cradle 2 the Grave’s Andrzej Bartkowiak, Romeo Must Die has Jet Li seeking out his brother’s killer; in the process, he falls for you-know-who (hint: not Delroy Lindo). Double Feature: Ninja Champion & Weapons of Death DVD (Screen Magic Films)
RELEASE DATE: June 19, 2012 Screen Magic Films presents two “classics” in this martial arts Double Feature: The first is Ninja Champion, a Godfrey Ho cut ‘n paste flick that stars Richard Harrison, Bruce Baron and Pierre Tremblay. The Kunoichi DVD (Sentai Filmworks)
RELEASE DATE: July 24, 2012 Sentai Filmworks presents the DVD for The Kunoichi (which means female ninja). This bloody martial arts film is directed by Seiji Chiba (Alien Vs. Ninja) and stars Karate Girl’s Rina Takeda as the title female ninja character. Check out the trailer.
The Girl from the Naked Eye DVD (First Look Pictures)
RELEASE DATE: July 24, 2012 First Look Pictures presents the DVD for The Girl from the Naked Eye, a dark revenge tale that has shades of Sin City combined with martial arts and stylized Hong Kong action. Down for the Count aka Aukmen DVD (Lionsgate)
RELEASE DATE: June 19, 2012 Lionsgate presents the DVD for 2009’s Down for the Count. This questionable movie (look at the terrible UFC-inspired DVD artwork), also known as Aukmen, is about a man (Ahmad Al-sulaiti) who enters the unfamiliar country of Thailand with hopes of becoming a professional Muay Thai boxing fighter. RELEASE DATE: June 5, 2012 Animeigo presents the original 13 Assassins on DVD. Directed by Eiichi Kudo (Yaju-deka), this 1963 classic was remade in 2010 by Takashi Miike. RELEASE DATE: May 15, 2012 Lionsgate presents Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2 Double Feature Blu-ray Set. Not exactly the highly anticipated Whole Bloody Affair, but you can’t deny that this is an excellent value for about $10 a movie. Too bad most of us already own the individual discs. Way to go, Lionsgate.
Sultry Assassin: Aphrodisiac Kill DVD (Switchblade Pictures)
RELEASE DATE: June 12, 2012 Switchblade Pictures presents the DVD for Sultry Assassin: Aphrodisiac Kill. Based on the line of “eroninja” novels by Junichi Yagami, Sultry Assassin: Aphrodisiac Kill is the first film in a new series from Zombie Hunter Rika’s Kenichi Fujiwara. It stars Akiho Yoshizawa, Yoshihiro Sato, Asami, Rin Kawai and Kesuke.
Champion Road: Arena DVD (Maverick Entertainment Group)
RELEASE DATE: June 5, 2012 Maverick Entertainment Group presents R.L. Scott’s low-budget martial arts flick, Champion Road: Arena.
