Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg – all writers, producers, and directors of Cobra Kai – are working on the final 6th season of the Cobra Kai saga, which will be kicking its way to Netflix on a soon-to-be-announced date.

Recent news (via Deadline) was that C.S. Lee (DexterAvatar: The Last Airbender) has joined the cast in an iconic role originating from The Karate Kid. According to sources, Lee will portray Master Kim Sun-Young, a character that has previously appeared only in flashback form by Jun Chong in The Karate Kid and later Don Lee in Cobra Kai. Master Kim is presumed dead and at this time it is unknown whether Lee will appear in flashback form only.

Cobra Kai marked the return of Ralph Macchio, William Zabka and Martin Kove playing their respective roles from the highly successful motion picture franchise (the first two were directed by legendary Rocky helmer, John G. Avildsen) that spawned three sequels, a remake, as well as an upcoming 2nd remake.

Later seasons of Cobra Kai saw the return of Karate Kid’s Elisabeth Shue (Cocktail); Karate Kid 2’s Tamlyn Tomita (The Joy Luck Club) and Yuji Okumoto (Blast), returning as Ali, Kumiko and Chozen; as well as Karate Kid 3’s Thomas Ian Griffith (Excessive Force), Sean Kanan (The Bold and the Beautiful) and Robyn Lively (Teen Witch), as Terry Silver, Mike Barnes and Jessica Andrews – all respectively.

According to a recent Teaser, the upcoming and final season will have fans wondering who or what the surprise is. Could it be Jackie Chan’s character making an appearance to bridge its plot with the upcoming crossover movie? Maybe ninjas make an appearance? Let’s wait and see.

We’ll keep you updated on Cobra Kai Season 6 as we learn more. Until then, here’s  that aforementioned “Teaser” featuring the cast:

Shart, I might have to subscribe for this. This gets a 👍 and a 🤘 from me.

  2. Until I see Hilary Swank you can count me out.

    • Brian Sheridan says:

Out of all of these guys, it looks like she’s the only one who kept training long after the movie wrapped. Yeah, the movie sucked (dancing monks WTAF?) but don’t hold her responsible for it. And it was another payday for Pat Morita, so there’s that.

  3. Mike Retter says:

Youl catch me dead before I subscribe to youtube Red! (feel free to use that one, ahem..). But Im certainly interested … It could be fun. And Im a sucker for kicking cups of water.

  4. Ermac says:

I find it insulting they want to take a serious movie and turn it into a comedy. They should have just funded a decent sequel so we can erase those thoughts of Karate Kid 3 and that horrid spinoff.

  5. Ningen says:

Karate Kid 3 and The Next Karate Kid actually has some decent action scenes, compared to that ‘they just visit Japan’ second movie.

  6. DougWonnacott says:

Is it just me or does Daniel come across as the bad guy in that trailer?

  7. Don J. says:

Apparently Johnny can’t even afford a smart phone. Still using a flip phone.

Yeah Daniel san comes across as kind of a jerk in that trailer.

  8. Watching that trailer just makes me appreciate what a stroke of genius this was in comparison.

  9. Ermac says:

It’s a good idea but they should have made a full length feature film. The world is getting all messed up so good franchises are going under the grinder in some cases. I hope they can at least get this right, the original movies were more drama than comedy. So I hope they can at least get the fight scenes looking decent.

  10. Christopher Dean says:

I wouldn’t mind if for a future season if they did a crossover with the remake and bring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan on board and do an arc where it’s Karate Vs Kung Fu

  11. KayKay says:

Finally pulled the trigger and watched Season 1.
Given that a lot of cinematic landfill is either filled with bad TV Shows spun off of great movies or bad movies spun off of great TV shows, Cobra Kai shouldn’t have worked, but by God it does!
Cobra Kai is proof of what can be achieved with good writing, turning what could have been a lame premise (2 middle aged men re-igniting a 3 decade old high school feud) into compulsive viewing.
Credit William Zabka and Ralph Macchio for revisiting their famous roles and adding depth and complexities to them.
The main thing going for this series is in it’s absolute refusal to box it’s 2 central characters into Good or Bad categorizations.
While Johnny is still a bit of a dick, the quintessential jock who peaked early and now sees the best part of his life and potential behind him, he’s also a broken man, beset with loss, grief and regrets, looking for a stab at redemption by opening his karate dojo.
Daniel is a successful businessman, with a beautiful wife and 2 kids but still can’t let go of his resentment of Johnny and everything Cobra Kai stands for (his inability to let go is also illustrated by the fact that in spite of being a happily married man, he still pines for and occasionally stalks his high school ex Ali on FB)

And I just loved the series’ expansion one of Miyagi’s philosophies from the 1st movie: “There are no bad students, merely bad teachers”

A group of bullied and passive nerds slowly morph into aggressors under Johnny’s “tough love, no mercy” approach (My fav line is when Johnny asks one of them if he’s autistic, to which the nerd replies, “the doctor says I may be on the spectrum”. Johnny’s response, “Well, get off it”) while Johnny’s wayward and delinquent son is slowly nudged into a more compassionate and humane person under Daniel’s tutelage which draws heavily on Miyagi’s gentle and pacifist approach to karate.

Cobra Kai rides on a gigantic nostalgia wave so I’m not sure how much of a pull it’ll be for those who don’t regard The Karate Kid (original please, NOT the bloody remake) as one of their seminal viewing experiences. My love for movies blossomed in the 80s, so The Karate Kid, along with The Goonies, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Terminator, Rambo First Blood Part 2, The Goonies, ET, Top Gun and Crocodile Dundee are titles I rented on VHS repeatedly and wore out through sheer overplay.
So Cobra Kai’s premise and the generous sprinkling of Easter Eggs is just the cherry on top of a sweet cake for me.
Based on just Season 1, I’d say Cobra Kai is a winner!
(Keeping fingers crossed they don’t bollocks up Seasons 2 & 3)

  12. KayKay says:

JJ, not just the 1st 2 parts, but Karate Kid 3 was directed by John G Avildsen as well. Although he and Macchio and most of the viewing public agreed that was a train wreck!

  13. KayKay says:

Ok, now I’ve binged both Season 2 & 3 as well. Great Stuff!
Ironically, the more soap operatic Cobra Kai gets, the better it is, because like the best soaps, it keeps you in a near constant state of whiplash with it’s frequently shifting allegiances and plot twists.

    Can’t wait for S4!

    • JJ Bona says:

I’m not quite done with Season 3, but so far, I love it! Season 2 is defiantly the weakest of the series so far, but all the events in 3 (so far) have made up for it!

  14. David Rees says:

Good fun series, but it does amaze me how after only a few lessons these kids become Karate experts doing moves it would take most mortals years to perfect!

  15. American Ninja says:

Honestly, the greatest thing on TV since before they fucked up Game Of Thrones. Still looking forward to Mike Barnes that guy was a great villain. Thomas Ian Griffith would be a welcome presence cause he was great in Karate Kid Part III. I thought was gonna be a great action guy and then I rented that really bad policer he did with Lance Henriksen and James Earl Jones I think it was called Excessive Measures or something. Just awful. And not fun bad like say Kickboxer 4 or Bloodfist II (the one where he’s a repo man with the chocolate) just bad-bad. It’d be nice to see him get a second chance.

  16. Aerosniff Someglue says:

The movies? Horrible U$ pitiful martial arts.

I won’t lose my so precious time on that.

  17. Robert Mark Kamen, the creator of the Karate Kid franchise and is an executive producer on Cobra Kai, has confirmed Thomas Ian Griffith is returning in season 4. The article can be found here.
