Best Casino Films: Eastern Edition

In Hollywood, the casino has been one of the most-visited tropes in the industry. That’s because the casino offers a naturally high-stakes environment that’s totally unique. In fact, until recently, most people had to travel great distances just to find themselves among the card and table games on a casino floor.

Today, it’s much easier to find online casino offers. In the US, for example, casino brands like 888 offer deals to welcome newcomers to the platform. There, players can find live dealer games, jackpot slots, and much more, which they can play straight from a remote device. But back in the day, the casino was a bit more out of reach—and this helped make it almost a mythic location for viewers.

There’s intrigue, mental gymnastics, luxurious trappings, a vibrant atmosphere, and a lot on the line anytime a casino floor comes on screen. And this isn’t a Hollywood affair only. With gaming centers in Macau in China and Jeju Island in South Korea, there are dozens of Eastern films that cover the topic from a variety of angles. Keep reading for some of the best titles—starting with 1964’s Pale Flower.

A Japanese Classic: Pale Flower (1964)

This crime drama takes an old-school look at the casino. While modern projects are happy to highlight the mental skills and fortitude necessary to succeed in card and table games, older projects focused on the more challenging elements of gaming. In Pale Flower, a young man meets a young woman while at a casino.

Their love story plays out through the context of gaming, viewed through a lens of destructive and codependent behavior. If you like films like The Card Counter, which takes a grittier look at gaming culture, then you’ll enjoy this film. Roger Ebert gave it four stars, then added it to his notorious list of ‘Great Movies’.

Poker King Takes on the Zeitgeist (2009)

Back in 2009, an online poker boom was still making waves worldwide. After a few decades of World Series of Poker coverage, players around the world were trying their hand with online platforms. This Hong Kong film rode the coattails of this trend, where two Texas Hold’em sleuths battle to be known as Macau’s poker king.

One of these characters, Jack, has spent the last few years playing poker in Canada. But now he has to take on one of Macau’s greatest poker players, named Uno. But there’s more at stake than the pot, as both Uno and Jack are vying for control of massive Macau casinos. Whoever wins will hold the fate of the islands in their hands.

From Vegas to Macau: An Ocean’s Twist (2014)

Just like the US’s Ocean’s 11 franchise, this three-part film series takes a highly entertaining look at life in Macau. However, this crime-drama largely takes place in Macau rather than Vegas. And just like its Western counterpart, the film focuses on a group of rag-tag sleuths who spend their time divesting major casinos of their funds in order to provide for the poor.

But when the group is exposed for their Robin Hood-esque activities, they have to engage in all sorts of hilarious quests in order to escape danger. Equal parts drama, comedy, and action flick, it has all the intrigue and laughs of a classic casino film.

Laughing Through God of Gamblers (1989)

This Hong Kong film includes an all-star cast that helped put it on the map—and keep it there—for fans of casino movies. With plenty of laughs and drama, the film takes viewers into the life of the ‘God of Gamblers’, a renowned gamer who’s kept his identity a secret. However, as of late, he’s been rumored to be losing his memory.

Two individuals plan on taking advantage of the God of Gamblers’ amnesia—only to realize he’s not so dimwitted after all. Soon, the trio are working together toward a common goal to take down a nemesis in the game of mahjong: the Demon of Gamblers.

Can a Roof Skylight Affect Your Roof’s Structure?

Do you have a skylight on your roof? If so, you need to check on your roof’s structure more often.

Roofs with skylights suffer more damage and get more easily damaged when they are not checked on. Having high-quality skylight services will be able to provide a service better than any of your other fellow technicians.

Keep reading to learn more about the answers to “Can a roof skylight affect the structure of your roof.”

Considering Structural Integrity

If you want to add a roof skylight to your house or another building, it’s important to think about how the roof will hold up. A roof skylight can have an effect on the structure of the roof due to the extra weight it puts on the structure and the additional holes created in the roof.

To keep the roof from getting more stressed, it’s important to put a load-bearing beam near the hole that can handle the extra weight. Additional bracing of the trusses or rafters may also be necessary to ensure that nothing is weakened or damaged by the new hole.

It’s important to consult a building engineer or structural engineer for proper installation. Also, ensure that your roof can safely handle the additional weight. With the right measures in place, a roof skylight can be a lovely addition to any structure.

Benefits of Installing a Roof Skylight

Putting in a roof skylight can be helpful in many ways, but it could also change the way your roof is built. Roof skylights provide natural sunlight to a home, which is both energy efficient and attractive. The installation process requires a professional to make sure it’s installed properly and safely.

With the right air and care, putting in a roof skylight can not only make your home look better but also give you many long-term benefits.

Weight Loads of Different Skylight Types

A roof skylight can definitely affect the structure of your roof and its load bearing. The type of skylight chosen can significantly affect the weight load the roof can sustain.

Different materials and sizes of skylights can influence the amount of weight your roof must support. For example, a large, insulated glass skylight is likely to require heavier roof support. This is compared to a smaller plastic skylight due to the added layer of insulation and increased weight of the glass.

On the other hand, a skylight mounted flush with the roofing material is likely to be less weighty than one that stands above the roof structure. Additionally, framed skylights tend to add more weight than frameless varieties.

Ultimately, it is important to consider the type of skylight you install. As well as its potential implications on the structure and weight load of your roof.

Wind Inspection Before Installing

Installing a skylight in your roof can greatly improve how your home looks, as well as how much natural light it lets in. But skylights can also affect the structure of your roof. This is why it is very important to have wind mitigation inspections done before installing a skylight.

Wind load has a great effect on any type of roof structure–with or without a skylight. During a wind inspection, a professional will look at the wind speeds in your area. They determine if the skylight and the roof can withstand these forces.

The inspector may also look for the presence of unnatural structures within the area. This includes neighbor houses, trees, or power lines, which may also have an effect on the roof’s wind resistance. During the wind inspection, modifications may be suggested. This is to strengthen the roof in order to make sure it can support the skylight in strong winds.

Reach Out to Professionals

Having a roof skylight installed into an existing roof structure can affect the integrity of your roof. If the skylight isn’t put in the right way, it can cause leaks, water, and garbage to build up in the shingles, and over time, it can weaken the roof’s structure.

This is why it is important to reach out to professionals for help with the installation process. Professional roofers are trained and have a lot of experience with both new roofs and changes to old ones. They will have skills in the materials, techniques, and machines. This is needed to make sure the skylight doesn’t compromise your roof’s structure.

By doing the job right, a skylight has the potential to boost the visual appeal of your home, a well as bring in additional natural light while not compromising your home’s security.

Roof Assessment

Yes, a roof skylight can definitely affect the structure of your roof. Through a roof inspection, you can find out how your roof is in its current state and if it poses any risks because of how it is built.

A particularly important part of assessing your roof is to identify any existing skylights and their placement. If the skylight is too close to walls, chimneys, trees, or other structures, it can affect the overall structural integrity of the roof. A roof inspection would be able to determine if a skylight needs to be moved or altered in order to prevent damage to the roof.

Additionally, a roof assessment may also identify any leaks or water damage coming from the skylight. This can compromise the structure of the roof and should be addressed as soon as possible. Having a roof assessment is key for roof safety and structure.

Learn More About Roof Skylight Today

A roof skylight is an exciting way to add natural light and create beauty in a room. However, they can have potential drawbacks that can result in serious direct and indirect damage to the roof structure if it is not properly designed and installed.

To avoid any problems, always consult with a professional roofer before installing a skylight. Taking the time to do this will ensure you get the most out of your investment while maintaining the structural integrity of your roof.

Operation Bangkok | aka Heroes Return (2021) Review

"Operation Bangkok" Theatrical Poster

Director: Du Xiubin
Cast: Ray Lui Leung Wai, Yuen Biao, Pavarit Mongkolpisit, Xu Dongdong, Liu Wei-Sen, Zhang Yonghua, Huang Guan, Chu Xu, Li Xing-Yu, Kinsman, Gao Lin
Running Time: 90 min.

By Paul Bramhall

China’s massive web movie market is known for its quick and cheap output, primarily driven by a seemingly endless line of monster movies and action flicks, all intended to be disposable and forgotten about a few minutes after the end credits roll. With that being said, for Hong Kong film fans it’s worth keeping at least one eye on, mainly because it’s become a source of income for many of HK cinemas familiar faces from its heyday to continue making a buck. Some of it even turns out quite decent. Fan Siu Wong, who at this point can be considered a veteran of the web movie scene, headlined the entertaining VR Fighter in 2021, and in the same year Man on the Edge would bring Sammo Hung, Simon Yam, Richie Ren, and Alex Fong together for a passable crime thriller. 2021 had one more ace up its sleeve when it came to web movies, and that arrived in the form of Operation Bangkok, which heralded the return of Yuen Biao to the screen.

It may not be the big screen (in fact for most it was more likely to be on a 6-inch screen), but it’s Yuen Biao, and on paper that’s a win in any Hong Kong cinema fans book, even more so for lovers of the territories legendary action genre. Unfortunately on paper is the only place that Operation Bangkok bears any semblance to being a promising action flick, as onscreen it’s a different story. Web movies are by their nature straight forward affairs, by necessity requiring no frills plots to keep the viewers attention, and if the runtime hits 90-minutes then it’s considered to be a gargantuan epic (which Operation Bangkok does). Considering this, the plot here Continue reading

Understanding the Cash Home Buying Process: What to Expect

Maybe you’re sick and tired of renting. Maybe you want to put down roots and stop cluttering your life with loan applications. Maybe you’re tired of being tied to a lease that only lasts a set amount of time.

Or maybe you’re tired of the downside to homeownership.

Soon, you’ll have a solution.

What are you looking for in your next home? The way to find out is by reading our guide to the cash home-buying process.

Let’s dive into what you should expect from a home-buying experience with cash.

What is Cash Home-Buying and How Does it Work?

This can be an attractive process for buyers who have access to liquidity, especially if they are looking to purchase a property quickly. With a cash home buyer, you can expect the process to happen much more quickly than when using a loan, as the money is available right away.

Additionally, you won’t have to pay any additional fees such as closing costs or mortgage insurance. Additionally, pre-determined inspections and appraisals that are required in traditional home purchases are not necessary for a cash transaction, making the process faster.

The Benefits and Drawbacks

Cash home buying is a process that allows prospective home buyers to purchase a property outright. It is an attractive option, as it eliminates the need for obtaining a mortgage loan or other financing. However, cash home buyers must understand the process and what to expect in order to maximize the benefits and minimize the drawbacks.

Cash home buyers must first identify and make an offer on a home that fits their budget and meets their requirements. For example, if the cash buyer prefers to purchase a home without a home inspection, this must be identified right away. If a deposit is required, the buyer will need to ensure the money is transferred securely.

Finding a Cash Home Buyer: Tips and Strategies

The best way to do so is to do research and consider consulting a real estate professional. Cash buyers typically skip some steps of the traditional buying process. They do not need to get financing and can move much faster. Although they generally pay less than the market value, they can close in a shorter time period with fewer associated costs.

Another important factor when cash buyers come into play is the condition of the home. Cash buyers are often looking for houses in need of repair, and as a seller, it is important to disclose any maintenance needs in order to avoid any future issues. So don’t waste any more time, find a cash home buyer now and get your home purchase process started.

The Cash Home Buying Process: Step-by-Step Guide

To help understand the process and what to expect, this step-by-step guide shades light on each stage of the process. Firstly, buyers should understand the difference between pre-qualified and pre-approved. Then, buyers should research the area and learn the market trends of the area they are interested in.

Secondly, find a qualified real estate agent and price the home. Once this is done, buyers should get an inspection of the home to establish any repairs that need attention. After this, get a buyer’s estimate on closing costs as well as secure financing. Lastly, before closing, buyers should review the purchase agreement and secure financial evidence.

Understanding Due Diligence in Cash Home Buying

The cash home buying process involves understanding due diligence when it comes to making a purchase. It is important to be aware of the expectations involved in such a transaction, as they can vary greatly depending on the location, property, and lender.

For example, in some areas, the inspection of the home comes prior to the closing, while in others it is completed at the closing table. Additionally, some lenders will require an appraisal, while others are more flexible.

The Importance of Inspection in Cash Home Buying

Inspections are especially important when buying with cash since there are no lien holders who might require additional inspections. When inspecting the home, make sure to identify any potential problems or needed repairs before signing a sales agreement. Owners should also make sure to check their budget and determine how much they can afford to pay for the home.

This can help them avoid getting in over their head financially. Lastly, the buyer should make sure to research the neighborhood, taxes, and other costs associated with buying the home.

Closing the Deal: What to Expect in Cash Home Buying

It’s good to have enough cash to cover the cost of the transaction without borrowing from a lender, although some buyers may utilize a combination of cash and a mortgage for part of the purchase. Next, request a title search to make sure the seller is the rightful owner of the property.

A title search might uncover any liens, back taxes, deeds, or other information on the property’s title. Finally, arrange for the closing.

Costs Associated with Cash Home Buying: What to Know

As a cash buyer, you can expect to pay all costs associated with the purchase, in full at closing. These include:

  • Home title fees
  • Transfer tax fees
  • Home inspection fees
  • As well as any other fees that may be required

It is also important to keep in mind additional costs associated with purchasing a home such as appraisal fees, insurance fees, and closing fees. Make sure to have a thorough understanding of the cash home-buying process in order to avoid any unexpected costs or surprises.

No Contingencies and As-Is: The Pros and Cons of Cash Home Buying

When it comes to making a cash home purchase with no contingencies and “as-is,” it can save significant time, energy, and money in negotiation. Pros of buying this way include greater control over the timeline of the purchase agreement and removing the risk of appraisal and inspection issues derailing the process.

On the other hand, this also removes time for thoroughly evaluating the home. It is important to carefully consider the pros and cons of cash home buying before making a final decision.

Choosing the Right Cash Home Buyer: Red Flags to Look Out For

Buying a home is a major decision, and understanding the cash home-buying process helps you know what to expect. Be sure to do your due diligence and research all your options before signing on the dotted line. Educating yourself before jumping in will ensure more successful and smoother transactions. Contact a real estate agent today to learn more about the cash home-buying process.

Buyer’s Market vs Seller’s Market

If you’re thinking of buying a home, you may have heard terms like “buyer’s market” or “seller’s market.” But what exactly do those terms mean, and how do they affect you?

The housing market can swing back and forth between a buyer’s market and a seller’s market. Understanding the terms and their implications can help you make the best decisions for your home-buying needs. So where do you begin?

For a quick and easy explanation of these terms, keep reading!

What Is a Buyer’s Market?

A buyer’s market is when there are more goods available than people willing to purchase them. Buyers have the power to negotiate prices. Buyers can choose the type and quantity of goods they want and drive down the seller’s prices.

In a buyer’s market, inventory is plentiful, competition is fierce, and consumer demand drives prices. The buyer has the most power and leverage in the market. As a buyer, you can visit homes in Morinville to see if it is the best time to buy a home.

What Is a Sellers Market?

A seller’s market occurs when the supply of goods or services is lower than the demand. It creates competition among buyers and drives prices up. In this situation, sellers have the advantage.

They can increase prices or put stricter conditions in place without fear of losing customers. This makes it beneficial for sellers and difficult for buyers.

In a seller’s market, sellers have greater potential to make large profits; however, buyers have to be willing to spend more to enjoy the good/service.

Factors Influencing Buyers and Sellers’ Markets

Factors that influence buyer’s and seller’s markets include population size, economic conditions, seasonality, and market oversupply or shortage. Low or negative population growth can make the population too small to sustain a seller’s market, resulting in oversupply and a buyer’s market.

Positive economic conditions can increase personal incomes and consumer expenditures, increasing demand for goods and creating a seller’s market. Seasonality plays a role in markets due to increased demand for certain goods around specific times during the year.

For example, demand for winter coats increases during the winter months, and subsequently, the seller’s market develops. Oversupply and shortages of goods in a market result in buyer’s and seller’s markets.

Strategies for Real Estate Investors in a Buyer’s or Seller’s Market

As a real estate investor, the key to success in either market is to have an effective strategy. In a buyer’s market, investors should look for local developers who are looking to discount their properties to recover their investments. They should also focus on properties that need some maintenance but have good potential for appreciation over the long term.

In a seller’s market, investors should take advantage of the competition by obtaining pre-approved financing, waiving certain inspections, and, if possible, making all-cash offers. Investors should monitor the market for trends to stay aware of investment opportunities before the competition does.

Learn More About the Buyer’s Market vs. The Seller’s Market

A buyer’s market favors those looking to make purchases, while a seller’s market favors those looking to make sales. Knowing which market you’re in can help you get the best deal. If you’re interested in finding out which market you’re in and how to make the most of it, consider working with a financial advisor.

The Ultimate Guide on How to Vape

Vaping has become increasingly popular in recent years as a way to enjoy nicotine or other substances without the harmful effects of smoking. In fact, over 9 million American adults used e-cigarettes in 2020. However, for those who are new to vaping, it can be a bit overwhelming.

There are a lot of different types of vapes and e-liquids to choose from, and it can be hard to know where to start. In this vaping for beginners guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about how to vape. Read on to learn the ins and outs of vaping.

Choose Your Device

First things first, is selecting the right device. The two main types of vape devices are vape mods and e-cigarettes. Vape mods are a lot larger, and they are also more powerful with customizable features. E-cigarettes are a lot simpler and they are also smaller.

There are plenty of features to choose from if you want a vaporizer that is a bit more technical. Some vape devices allow you to change the temperature in your vaporizer. There are also some devices that have a digital display full of features that you can opt from.

Some devices are a lot more simple if you want something that works well but does not have a bunch of confusing customizable options. There are even disposable vapes where you do not have any features to deal with you simply discard the vape when you are done with it. These are one of the most convenient options because you never have to worry about filling or maintaining the pen, it is ready to use and then throw away when done.

When you are choosing your device you have to also think about your budget. How much are you willing to spend? Please keep in mind that you always get what you pay for so, if you opt for a more expensive device it is probably better quality.

E-Liquid

The next step is choosing your e-liquid. This is the liquid that is vaporized when you vape. There are plenty of flavors to choose from and also many nicotine strengths.

If you prefer a higher amount of nicotine you can opt for 12 mg to 60 mg and this is best with lower power. For medium nicotine you will need to opt for 6 mg to 12 mg, and it is best with either low or medium power. Lower nicotine amounts are between 0 mg to 6 mg and best when used with higher power.

There are also e-liquids that do not contain any nicotine if you prefer no nicotine. In the event that you don’t know what the right nicotine level is for you, you can evaluate the bracket you think you would appreciate more. There are even extra high levels of nicotine available if you need that you can feel faster and they are a more intense experience.

After you choose your e-liquid flavor and nicotine level make sure that the device you chose will work correctly with the level of nicotine you chose.

Prime Your Coil

Depending on your vape device you might need to prime your coil before you even start vaping. This will ensure that the coil is saturated with the right amount of e-liquid. If the coil is not saturated enough it will lead to dry hits and other issues.

The easiest way to prime your coil is to add a few drops of e-liquid directly on the coil. Just make sure you do not over saturate the coil because it will cause flooding among other issues.

Settings

For a vaporizer that is more advanced and techy, you will need to also adjust your settings before you start to inhale and vape. Adjusting the settings can vary, but for the most part you will adjust the settings like this:

First, turn on the pen and press the power button or click it multiple times until it turns on. Next, check the display screen to see what the current settings are. Then, use the buttons to adjust the settings.

You might have to click a certain button to adjust the wattage and a different button to adjust the temperature. If you are not 100% sure about how to adjust the settings for your model, you can refer to the user manual that the pen came with. Make sure you follow the recommended wattage and temperature to not accidentally burn out your pen.

Inhale and Enjoy

Once your device is set up, it’s time to start vaping. Inhaling a pen does not have to be complicated, you have to simply press the button on your device and inhale. Make sure you take slow, steady puffs to get the most out of your vaping experience, so you don’t end up with a rush of nicotine that doesn’t feel right and to avoid dealing with a cough attack.

There are two types of inhalation techniques you can become familiar with. The best technique depends on the vape that you want to use. The two common inhalation techniques include direct-lung and mouth-to-lung:

Direct Lung

If you have a larger vape with low resistance coils and lower nicotine amounts, direct lung inhaling is the most ideal. When you take a drag on one of these devices you will usually feel like you are sucking air through a milkshake straw.

A direct lung inhale will make the most amount of vapor and it will almost feel like taking a hit out of a bong. The main difference from a bong hit is that it is smoother and easier on the lungs because you normally do this with either no nicotine or very low amounts of nicotine.

First, you have to quickly draw the vapor right to your lungs and then exhale the vape you inhale almost immediately after. If the device you are using has an adjustable airflow, the amount of nicotine is the easiest way to gauge how to inhale it.

A good rule of thumb is 6 mg for direct lung inhales.

Mouth-to-Lung

This inhale works best with smaller vapes that have high resistance coils with higher nicotine levels. When you take a drag no matter how big or small the device is, this will feel like you are sucking air through a coffee straw.

Mouth-to-lung draws will make low vapor and will feel more like you are smoking. This draw should be tight and give the type of hit to the throat that many smokers crave.

First you will slowly draw the vapor into your mouth for a few seconds and hold the vape in your mouth for a second or two. Then, you will open your mouth and breathe the vapor into your lungs but not swallow it. Last, you will exhale after the vapor is in your lungs.

Cigar Puff

This is not technically a type of inhale, but there are some users that opt to not inhale to the lungs and instead puff on the vape like it’s a cigar. You can use the cigar puff technique with either high powered or low powered devices.

Although it might sound like you are not getting nicotine with a cigar puff you are consuming the nicotine because it is still getting absorbed into your mucus membranes. There are people that actually prefer the cigar puff and say that inhaling directly into the lungs is not even necessary.

Maintain Your Device

If you want your device to have a long lifespan you need to maintain it. Take the time to clean it on a regular basis to avoid gunk from accumulating. You can use a microfiber cloth or a cotton swab to help clean the outside of the device.

Do not forget to clean the mouthpiece and the tank regularly as well. You can use either a cleaning solution or warm water to clean these parts. Also, pay attention to the small parts and replace them as needed.

Sometimes you will have to replace the coil to ensure that you are getting the best vape experience possible. The coil is the part of the pen that heats up and vaporizes the e-liquid.

After some time this coil will wear out and will affect the quality of your vaping experience. Usually you have to replace your coil every few weeks to make sure that your device functions properly.

Something else you have to think about is charging the battery correctly. You never want to overcharge your battery, so make sure you unplug it from the charger once the battery is fully charged. Also, make sure you use the charger that came with your device because this charger was meant to be used with that specific vape pen.

Once in a while check your mouthpiece and tank for any leaks. A leak will affect the quality of your vaping experience, so you need to catch them before they get worse.

Last but not least, make sure you store your vape pen correctly. This will ensure that your vape pen functions to the best of its ability. You never want to put your pen in direct sunlight or leave it in a hot car, instead keep it in a dry and cool location.

What and Where Do You Want to Vape?

Something that you need to take into consideration is what exactly you want to vape. We spoke about vaping e-liquids above, but you also have the option of vaping concentrates or dry herbs.

If you opt to vape dry herbs you need to choose a device that is specifically designed for dry herb vaping. You will need to use a grinder to grind your dry herbs into a very fine consistency. This is going to ensure that you vaporize evenly and it will give you a better flavor.

When vaping dry herbs you will need to use a tool to pack your ground dry herbs into the vaporizer’s chamber. Keep in mind that you do not want to over-pack the chamber because it will affect the vapor’s quality. Depending on the dry herb you need to vaporize, it will vaporize at different temperatures.

Make sure you read the instructions for your specific model to make sure you choose the best temperature for the herbs you are vaping. Normally you will use between 350-400°F when vaping dry herbs. Once you set your temperature you will wait for the vaporizer to heat up to the desired temperature, which can take a few minutes depending on the type of vaporizer you are using.

After it is heated up, you will inhale from the mouthpiece to draw the vapor into your lungs. Then you will take slow and steady puffs, which will help you get the most out of your dry herb vaping experience.

You also have to decide where you are planning on vaping. Do you want to vape in the privacy of your home or are you planning on vaping while you are out and about? There are some vaporizers that have a sleek and inconspicuous design and there are others that are less discreet.

Now You Know How to Vape

Now that you learned everything there is to know about how to vape, this can be a great alternative to smoking. Follow our tips above, and you can get started with vaping and enjoy all the benefits vaping has to offer. Please do not forget to maintain your device so that it can last as long as possible.

It’s perhaps not surprising that little of Indonesia’s arthouse cinema scene has made it across to western shores, however with Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash, director Edwin has (albeit unintentionally) ensured his latest work has an opportunity to be seen by a wider audience beyond local cinemas. For a start, that title. Dating as far back as Chang Cheh’s Vengeance! in 1970 (and probably further), if there’s one word in the English vocabulary that’ll help secure a distribution deal for a foreign production in English language markets, its that one. Secondly, cast Cecep Arif Rahman from The Raid 2 in a cameo as an imprisoned blind kung-fu master that our main character has an opportunity to share a cell with, and you have a double dose of international appeal.

I was considering my approach for this review, and contemplated pretending to reel off my knowledge of Edwin’s work, all of which naturally led up to me watching his latest production, so as to maintain my finely tuned image of having a wide-ranging knowledge of Asian cinema (even if said image only exists in my head). But ultimately, I decided against it. To be honest, I checked out Vengeance Is Mine, All Others Pay Cash because it has a really cool title, and seeing Continue reading

Understanding Camera Settings

In order to take stunning photos and videos with your Android phone, it’s important to understand the three main camera settings: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. These settings control how much light enters the camera, how long the camera’s sensor is exposed to light, and how sensitive the camera is to light, respectively. By adjusting these settings, you can control the exposure of your photos and videos, resulting in brighter or darker images and videos.

Aperture refers to the size of the opening in the lens through which light enters the camera. A smaller aperture (represented by a larger f-number) will result in a larger depth of field, meaning that more of the image will be in focus. A larger aperture (represented by a smaller f-number) will result in a shallower depth of field, meaning that only a small portion of the image will be in focus. This can be useful for creating a blurred background effect in portrait photography.

Shutter speed refers to the amount of time the camera’s sensor is exposed to light. A faster shutter speed will result in a shorter exposure time and can be used to freeze action or capture moving subjects with less motion blur. A slower shutter speed will result in a longer exposure time and can be used to capture motion blur, such as the movement of a waterfall or traffic at night.

ISO refers to the camera’s sensitivity to light. A higher ISO will make the camera more sensitive to light, resulting in brighter images and videos. However, a higher ISO can also introduce more noise or grain to the image. It’s important to find a balance between a high enough ISO to capture enough light and a low enough ISO to avoid too much noise.

Composition Techniques for Taking Great Photos

Composition refers to the arrangement of elements within a photo or video. By using composition techniques, you can create visually interesting and engaging images and videos.

  • The rule of thirds

One of the most important composition techniques is the rule of thirds. This involves dividing the image into thirds both horizontally and vertically and placing the subject at one of the intersections of the lines. This creates a more dynamic and interesting composition than placing the subject directly in the center of the image.

  • Leading lines

Another important composition technique is leading lines. This involves using lines within the image, such as a road or a fence, to draw the viewer’s eye toward the subject. This can create a sense of depth and perspective within the image.

  • Consider the background

Finally, it’s important to consider the background when composing your images and videos. A cluttered or distracting background can take away from the subject of the image. Look for simple and clean backgrounds that will allow the subject to stand out.

Using Filters and Effects for Creative Shots

Filters and effects can add a creative touch to your photos and videos. Many Android camera apps come with built-in filters and effects that you can apply to your images and videos in real time. These can range from simple black-and-white filters to more complex effects like adding a lens flare or creating a vintage look.

When using filters and effects, it’s important to use them sparingly. Overusing filters and effects can make your images and videos look artificial and gimmicky. Instead, use them to enhance the mood or atmosphere of the image or video.

Shooting Modes

Most Android cameras come with a variety of shooting modes that can be used to capture different types of images and videos. These can include panorama, HDR, slow motion, and time-lapse modes.

  • Panorama mode allows you to capture a wide-angle image by stitching together multiple photos. This can be useful for capturing landscapes or large group photos.
  • HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode is used to capture a greater range of brightness and color than is possible with a single exposure. The camera takes multiple photos at different exposures and combines them into a single image with a greater dynamic range.
  • Slow motion mode allows you to capture video at a slower frame rate than normal, resulting in a slow and smooth motion. This can be useful for capturing action shots or for creating artistic videos.
  • Time-lapse mode allows you to capture a series of photos over a set period of time and then combine them into a video. This can be useful for capturing events like sunsets or for creating a fast-paced and dynamic video.

Tips for Taking Better Selfies

Selfies have become a popular form of photography with the rise of social media. However, taking a good selfie can be tricky. Here are some tips for taking better selfies:

  • Find good lighting

Lighting is key for any photo, and this is especially true for selfies. Look for natural light or use a soft light source like a lamp to avoid harsh shadows or unflattering lighting.

  • Angle your face

Tilting your head slightly or angling your face can create a more interesting and flattering composition.

  • Use the front-facing camera

Most Android phones come with a front-facing camera specifically for taking selfies. Use this camera to ensure that you are framing the shot correctly.

  • Use a selfie stick

A selfie stick can help you get the right distance and angle for your selfie, allowing you to capture more of the background or include more people in the shot.

Editing Your Photos and Videos on Android

Editing your photos and videos can take them from good to great. There are many editing apps available for Android that allow you to adjust exposure, color, and other settings, as well as add filters, text, and other effects.

One popular editing app is Snapseed, which allows you to adjust exposure, color, and other settings with precision tools. Another popular app is VSCO, which offers a wide range of filters and effects that can be customized to create a unique look.

When editing your photos and videos, it’s important to keep the original image in mind. Don’t over-edit your photos or videos to the point where they look unnatural or fake. Instead, use editing to enhance the mood or atmosphere of the image or video.

Conclusion

Taking stunning photos and videos with your Android phone is easier than ever with the variety of features and settings available. By understanding the camera settings, using composition techniques, and utilizing filters and effects, you can create visually interesting and engaging images and videos. Additionally, third-party camera apps and accessories can enhance the capabilities of your camera. With this ultimate guide, you’ll be able to take your photography skills to the next level and capture breathtaking moments that will impress everyone around you.

The genres of the Italian western and the classic, traditional kung fu movie have many similarities. They both arose out of a turbulent, massively creative time in their respective industries, were low budget yet ground-breakingly innovative, and were shot without sound and dubbed in the studio. Both also birthed many average to bad movies, such was the demand of the market for their product, and were a genre part-based around new ways to depict violence. Italian westerns served as inspiration for the traditional kung fu film. In their settings, the American West and period China respectively, they re-imagined these time periods colourfully and bravely. To my knowledge the only time an Italian western has been legitimately remade in the classic kung fu mould is the late 70s Lee Yi Min starrer 7 Commandments of Kung Fu

The film follows a lot of the same story beats as Tonino Valerii’s Day of Anger, but I see it as more of a re-imagining. What’s interesting about 7 Commandments is how it adapts these narrative points to the kung fu genre, and the mentor/student relationship which is at the heart of many old school movies. Also, the genuine emotion it creates with the subversion of the villainous Continue reading

1. LED Fixtures

LED fixtures are a crucial element of the luminous modern bathroom lighting trends in 2023. Advances in LED technology have allowed for high-end fixtures to be designed with even more efficient operation. This provides for brilliant effects in the bathroom that was not previously achievable.

Using fewer but brighter lights gives the room a more unified look. Also, you can now get these bathroom lighting fixtures in various colors, sizes, and styles to fit your design needs.

They are also quite energy-efficient, making them an ideal choice for the bathroom. Not only do they provide bright and beautiful lighting, but they are also an excellent solution for saving money on energy bills in the long run.

2. Track Lighting

Track lighting consists of individual spotlight bulbs that are affixed to a bar. This can be adjusted and maneuvered to create custom lighting solutions to suit any aesthetic.

The modern trend for track lighting in the bathroom is to feature multiple bulbs of varying hues. This allows for a wash of light across the entire bathroom that is truly luminous.

The soft white light created by track lighting gives the illusion of more space. At the same time, adjusting each bulb can provide the illusion of theater-style lighting.

3. Smart Lighting

Smart lighting systems can be programmed to dim the lights automatically when dark and turn them on and off based on specific sensors. The lights can even be used to control the environment and mood of your bathroom via an app.

Consumers can set the lights to create a warm, inviting ambiance or a bright and vibrant environment. Both lighting systems offer efficient energy consumption that won’t waste energy. Smart lighting also makes your bathroom more innovative and efficient.

Wireless motion sensors can be used to turn on and off the lights when entering or leaving the bathroom, and light levels can be changed depending on your needs.

You may have this kind of lighting through proper custom home remodeling. This ensures that the intelligent lighting will work efficiently and safely and be tailored to your needs.

4. Pendant Lighting

As a growing trend in bathroom lighting, pendant lighting has many benefits. It can provide illumination for the vanity without hitting the wall or having to worry about a backplate.

Many creative options, such as rustic metal, matte black, and sleek glass designs, are available. When used in a cluster, it can be a focal point in the bathroom.
