It’s time for full-throttle action and exhilarating movie adventures this summer as Shout! Studios unveils HONG KONG CINEMA CLASSICS™, a new entertainment label spotlighting a treasure trove of Hong Kong’s most captivating and cinematic masterpieces on digital entertainment platforms in 4K and definitive-edition physical releases (UHD™ and Blu-ray™) for collectors’ home entertainment shelves.
Hong Kong cinema in the ’80s and ’90s, renowned for its thrilling action choreography, distinctive visual styles, and emotional storytelling, represents a remarkable era in cinematic history, whose crime thrillers, martial arts classics, and action films, in particular, have left an indelible mark on Hollywood, profoundly influencing everything from Quentin Tarantino’s movies to the iconic Matrix and John Wick franchises. Among these are many acclaimed and popular early works by renowned filmmakers John Woo, Ringo Lam, Tsui Hark, Corey Yuen, Gordon Chan, Johnnie To, and internationally renowned actors Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Chow Yun-Fat, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Leslie Cheung, and Tony Leung Ka-fai. Studios, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Film Archives, has been working diligently to remaster and restore several prized hits, all scanned in stunning 4K from the original camera negatives. The video and audio have been restored, and the subtitles have been newly translated. With fans in mind, Shout! Studios is currently producing a variety of bonus content for each physical media release for this numbered and deluxe home entertainment series.

There’s so many more that I look forward to seeing a physical release for with great features; Enter The Eagles, Bury Me High, Project S, Dragon Fighter 1990, Beauty Investigator, The Angel Trilogy, License to Steal, The Legend of Wisely, Dragon From Russia, Red Fists, The Big Heat, Big Bullet, Pedicab Driver, Dreaming The Reality, The Mighty Gambler, Stone Age Warriors, Operation Scorpio (The Scorpion King) and a ton of others I can’t think of right now. (I know they’re different companies, but still.)
I am 99% sure that the JET LI COLLECTION 4k are reprints of 88 Film release.
Very disappointing schedule for their physical releases. Was hoping Shout would come out of the gates with something that us collectors don’t have yet. Instead they release 5 Jet Li movies that have been released by 88 Films in the last 18 months
Eagerly awaiting an update on how releases will occur outside of North America.
My guess is that film rights will be sold on a package basis to local distributors (Popular film bundled with 2 or 3 lesser titles).
I really hope that we don’t get short-changed with the extras. There are going to be far too many titles to import.
I’ve never really been much of a fan of John Woo’s stuff or most of Jet Li’s movies; when do we get the Chinese Ghost Story series on physical media? Those are the ones I’m looking forward to getting 4K special editions of.
Harvey was a hoarding bitch who didn’t even let that first CGS film get screened at Leslie Cheung’s tribute in L.A.

As long as 88 Films, Eureka, Arrow or another English or French label doesn’t put out Blu-Ray, they can shove those physical releases where the sun don’t shine.
