Ebola Syndrome | Blu-ray (88 Films)

RELEASE DATE: November 28, 2022

88 Films’ Blu-ray (Region B) for Herman Yau’s 1996 Hong Kong thriller, Ebola Syndrome is now available!

After the success of the sadistic and powerful Bunman: The Untold Story, the director and star team of Herman Yau (The White Storm 2: Drug Lords) and Anthony Wong (Still Human) set about making another classic slice of Category III horror, Ebola Syndrome.

After killing his boss, wanted convict Ah Kai flees Hong Kong and winds up in South Africa. Once there, he attacks and rapes a woman infected by the Ebola virus. However, when he learns he is immune but can pass on the virus to others, he begins to spread the disease to more and more people.

Ebola Syndrome is a typically wild Category III exploitation horror, replete with ghastly overtones and heaps of bad taste. A must for lovers of Hong Kong cult cinema everywhere.

  1. James Morton says:

Could you please tell me if the UK 88Films blu ray of Ebola Syndrome is completely uncut.
I have the R0 US dvd on the Diskotek label and it has the uncut scenes as an extra.
Are these scenes included in the 88Films blu ray because they are in the US blu ray from Vinegar Syndrome?

    • JJ Bona says:

According to a very reliable source, 88’s version is not only uncut, it’s from the same master from VinSyn (down to their logo at the end!)

  2. Andrew Moncrieff says:

I don’t wanna double dip on this but the inclusion of a poster and the original art as a reversible might give it the edge over VS

    • JJ Bona says:

I’m really curious to see, especially with an older movie like this, if played side to side, with the same TV, same adjustments, if there is a different between 4K UHD and Blu-ray releases (assuming they’re from the same exact source). I imagine “physical distance” would be the only difference. With newer movies, obviously, the choice is clear (intended pun!).
