They’ve made Iko Uwais the go-to Asian guy for every mediocre VOD release now or what?

Everything after The Raid 1/2 has been progressively a step down. Headshot was generic, and only noteworthy because it starred Uwais and Estelle. The Star Wars appearance is literally nothing to talk about. He’s in Triple Threat, but every one of these “All Star cast” movies are usually mediocre filler with mindless explosions and plotholes and isn’t getting me hyped at all. And now this? Beyond Skyline was just okay, but they had to ruin it with the shaky cam during his fight scenes for what? If they just had normal camera-work there, and edited out some pointless parts in some scenes, that movie could have been better. I don’t why they had Buddhist monks running around in what’s clearly Indonesia either and the ending was just off.

Just wish Evans would reconsider and film The Raid 3. Because we haven’t had a good action film that was serious and on-point in a while.

Fuck that bullshit. Iko deserves some respect. That hollywood poison man

  3. Andrew Hernandez says:

This and My Spy have the potential to be annoying, but hopefully they’re more like Knight and Day and less The Other Guys.

Thought Iko was going to have a larger role in this, but I guess with what we saw with Mile 22 and now this trailer, they literally don’t know how to use him properly. Maybe its better that way and he doesn’t completely ruin his image to mainstream audiences by appearing as some goofball sidekick.

Hopefully, he gets a slap in the face at some point and returns to reality that this Hollywood stuff isn’t the be all and end all. The man is getting older and eventually he’ll be making Tron ripoffs. You can make indy and Asian films alongside big budget films, it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Plenty of Western actors do indy and Hollywood side by side. Somebody needs to tell Iko Uwais that.

Keep your ticket-stub for this one.

Stuber may look pretty dumb, but we’ll see how it goes. I get the feeling the red band trailer gives away all the “money shots” though, so I’ll wait till the film.

I have a feeling this might be the one and only fight scene with Iko in the movie so I’m going oto hold off on watching this. Really looking forward to the film however because it does at least look funny.

I’m always wary when the best part of a movie is released in full before the movie comes out. You’d think the producers would want people to pay to see it first.

I watched Stuber this past Monday amid the mixed reviews, and I have to say it was pretty decent.

Granted, there are some dumb parts. But the comedy worked most of the time, and the movie pays tribute to 80’s and 90’s buddy action films while making satire out of the conflict between those themes and modern day sentiments.

There were a few dark moments as well which kept this from being a Kevin Hart styled comedy.

Iko Uwai’s fights are decent, and while there’s no choppy editing or extreme close ups, there’s a fair amount of shaky cam which might annoy some people. Personally I didn’t find it as intrusive as in Mile 22.

All in all, I don’t regret watching Stuber.
