On February 21, 2025, Quiver Distribution will be releasing Cleaner, the latest action thriller from director Martin Campbell (The Foreigner, Edge of Darkness, Casino Royale). the upcoming film stars Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Clive Owen (Children of Men, Shoot ‘Em Up).

Cleaner is set in present-day London. A group of radical activists, led by Owen, take over an energy company’s annual gala, seizing 300 hostages in order to expose the corruption of the hosts. Their just cause is hijacked by an extremist within their ranks, who is ready to murder everyone in the building to send his anarchic message to the world. It falls to an ex-soldier turned window cleaner, played by Ridley, suspended 50 storeys up on the outside of the building, to save those trapped inside.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Martin Campbell and the Anton team to bring Cleaner to audiences in North America,” said Quiver Distribution Co-Presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman. “This film is such an intense ride featuring some of the most vigorous action sequences we have seen in years.”

Martin Campbell said “Cleaner is a nail-biting thriller, unique and original in both its characters and its setting. Much of the film takes place on the side of One Canada Square – hundreds of feet up in the air – and I want the audience to be up there with Joey in a stomach churning, vertiginous experience.”

No relation to that Mark Dacascos Cleaner no one saw. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_Name:_The_Cleaner

I’ll give this a chance. I hope Campbell is taking a “less is more” approach, and the actors train well for it. Daisy Ridley needs a good project that shows a different side of her. The Marsh King’s Daughter had potential for it, but fell flat. I happen to like the Star Wars sequel trilogy, so sue me.

  4. Shadow says:

    Clive Owen “also starring” LOL
Campbell is more than competent director, and its good to see Clive in some action, but Daisy as lead its a big “hmmm” for me…
I guess i will take it from local torrent store 😎

Cool looking trailer. Daisy Ridley looks to have taken her role seriously, and I hope Clive Owen is going to ham it up as a psycho villain. Martin Campbell seems to be hot & cold when it comes to his action film output, so I hope he’s firing on all cylinders here.

I wonder if this was in any way inspired by the once proposed Jackie Chan movie, Nosebleed (or something like that). That was a movie Jackie was at least considering making in the late 1990s, it was going to be about a window cleaner in New York working on the Twin Towers who becomes aware of a terrorist plot happening in the Towers & becomes drawn into the battle against said terrorists. The project had to be scrapped, of course, after 9/11. Anyway, this trailer reminds me of that plot line.

Please. First Jessica Alba as a special forces commando and now Daisy Ridley in a kick ass movie. No thank you.

People seem to really hate women starring in action films more than they did a few years ago. They would really hate Cynthia Khan and Moon Lee films where they beat up guys bigger than them.

Not surprising given the current culture wars climate…..women kicking ass is THE WOKE. Any tv show or movie with too many women and foreign looking people is also the WOKE. Only white males allowed…..but not to many otherwise that also becomes THE G4Y which is also the WOKE. Anyone with a degree/further education/believes the earth isn’t flat soon will also be THE WOKE….only men who hunt their own food and chop their own firewood is NOT WOKE

Another film played me for a sucker. I was cheering for Cleaner on the sidelines hoping it would be a fun romp, but now I know why it was only in theatres for a week.

Daisy Ridley is good in the film, and it’s obvious that she worked hard. It sucks that all of her efforts are undermined by constant stupidity in the film. The trailers also lied about Clive Owen being the villain with an interesting objective in that he didn’t want money, he just wanted to expose the corrupt businesspeople on live TV.

After what feels like 5 minutes of screen time, he’s replaced by a generic psycho with a generic objective. Daisy Ridley’s character also has an autistic brother for no other reason but tone-deaf pandering, and to paraphrase what Robert Downey Jr said in Tropic Thunder, he went full Simple Jack.

Once again, idiots in the film business think autism is the same as being mentally challenged. After positive portrayals in the likes of Ocean Heaven, Chocolate and The Accountant films, this shit shouldn’t fly.

The fight scenes have decent moments, but they’re ruined by the brother interfering in them and almost getting his sister killed. It seemed like a decent movie was trying to exist, but somebody kept insisting that this film be idiotic.

Martin Campbell certainly has a hot/cold ratio going with his good films and shitty ones. This movie doesn’t even feel like it’s directed by him. What a waste.

I’ve stayed away from this one cos I watched the one Campbell did with Maggie Q. That one definitely was a shitty one. And he loves the tropes/ furthering stereotypes cos in that film of course the hot Asian babe has to bang the white dude thats older than her father.

    • Andrew Hernandez says:

The Protégé was better than Cleaner. But if Cleaner gets a 1 out of 5, The Protégé gets 2.

That movie was just a mess with fleeting decent moments, and Maggie Q had zero chemistry with Michael Keaton whose character didn’t belong in the movie even though he got top billing. I don’t think Campbell was going for any Asian stereotype tropes though.

Campbell’s remake of the Belgian film, Memory of a Killer was actually pretty good. People will dismiss Memory because Liam Neeson stars in it, but it’s one of his better non-Taken thrillers.

Meanwhile, Campbell needs to get a grip and stop taking several steps back any time he takes a step forward.

      • Ska Martes says:

In an alternate universe we would have gotten Nosebleed and be spared this “cinematic” endeavour which has worse cinematography, dialogue and acting than an episode of Eastenders…ok maybe not that bad but Cleaner is shockingly inept for what is a Die Hard clone. Imagine if John McClane spent 100 minutes in the limousine and didn’t enter the Nakatomi building until the last 20 minutes. The only positives I can think of is if the Rey movie ever gets past development hell, Ridley/her stunt double should be able to execute better action scenes than in The Sequel trilogy.
