“36th Chamber of Shaolin” Chinese Theatrical Poster
Word on the street is that Arrow Video is releasing a Blu-ray for Lau Kar-Leung’s 1978 kung fu film staple The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (aka Master Killer) starring martial arts icon Gordon Liu (Martial Club, Kill Bill Vol. 1).
Many fans consider The 36th Chamber of Shaolin a turning point for director Lau Kar-Leung as well as the star, Gordon Liu. Martial arts movies at the time showed waning interest, but upon the film’s release, both of these talented men found a boost to their respective careers – thanks to writer Kuang Ni (The Seventh Curse) who did an excellent job with a seemingly simple tale of revenge, train and kick ass. Don’t let the cliche “Monks are peaceful” fool you. It has the alternative title of “Master Killer” for a reason.
We’ll keep you filled in as we learn more. Who know – maybe this is just the start of what Arrow may have in store for Shaw Brothers film fans.
